From my brief appointment with her yesterday, I could tell that she's the kind of medical practitioner that makes you want to become a long time patient. A solid 5 star dental professional. Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk personnel left much to be desired. LaShandra gave me the feeling that she didn't want to be bothered with me. The tone in which she spoke to me on the phone before I ever made it into the office was curt, but then when I finally came in the office, I felt that her tone was even more demeaning. The whole time she spoke with me, she'd never make any eye contact. I'm hard of hearing and wear hearing aids and trying to hear when people have a mask on is very difficult and she seemed to not want to repeat anything and that she simply didn't have time. (Mind you, there's no one else in the waiting area, nor is the phone ringing during this time which I would've understood if she couldn't answer my questions at the moment due to other office obligations). Finally I asked her to give me a second to turn on my mic (I have a mic that connects directly to my hearing aids via Bluetooth to help me hear better. The last question (about insurance) I started to try and ask her before going into the room with the doctor, I was stopped abruptly by her saying that it was time to see the doctor so I guess that was her way of not answering the question. Growing up, my family didn't have a healthy dental routine of seeing dentists. As an adult, I'm dealing with the consequences of that and trying to create healthier dental habits moving forward. I was beyond excited to come to Capitol Family Dental since it's in my neighborhood and had so many phenomenal reviews. I had even convinced my husband to give them a shot potentially leaving his normal dentist and hygienist that he's been going to for 10+ years since Capitol Family Dentistry is in the neighborhood. But unfortunately, my experience speaking with LaShandra multiple times over the phone before I came in for my first appointment coupled with my in-person experience turned me off a bit. Moreover, when I'd ask questions, she'd make assumptions that she knew the reason behind my question and answered based on what she thought I needed to know instead of just answering my question which made the communication even more tense (not to mention, leaving me without the information I was trying to get). I mean, I'm in the dentist's office ON MY BIRTHDAY with a broken tooth. Definitely not how I want to start off the morning of my birthday but to be made to feel like you're not worth the time is just not a good experience. Not sure how to proceed but I may still be looking for a new dentist. I hate to give such a highly regarded dental practice 2 stars, but when the experience with front desk is such that it leaves you feeling like you don't want to come back and you're weighing to yourself whether or not to continue to subject yourself to this type of treatment, I think it warrants it. I couldn't do only 1 star because Dr. P was a gem. But what good are great doctors when the staff makes you feel like trash before you even get to meet them?

He did this in the manner it should have been done from the beginning. Unfortunately, he agreed I shouldn't come back because his front desk staff attitude is bad and afraid if I come back in person there may be some physical altercation, which is scary because why would it get physical if you hire professional staff? The receptionist Lazandria or a name very similar is very rude. She is always the lady that answers the phone with the DC accent. She has been rude since my first appointment. Additionally, when contacting them about a follow-up, the receptionist hung up in my face claiming the dental office on the other line was calling about me, when I told her there is no way this could be true, she hung up anyway. She knew she was wrong because she called back and said, "I'm sorry they weren't calling about you, it was another patient and I apologize for being so rude". The fact you have to call back and acknowledge you can't keep you attitude in check lets me know this dentist does not care about who he hires and how they treat his customers. She was also very nasty when corresponding with them about my referral to a specialist. She told me it was not their fault that they may not be in network when they refer out to specialists. This is after when I called and asked how they refer to specialists, and she said they refer to specialists based on my insurance. She realized there was a problem and tried to walk back on what she initially said. You ARE NOT SAFE with them. Anyone that can hire staff that will be so reckless with your care is not a good establishment. This woman hung up in my face and proceeded to yell at me on the phone when she started changing her story after saying they referred me based on my insurance. They take no responsibility. Anyone that cares about their money and wants a confident health care team that WORKS TOGETHER, this is not the place for you. If this comment is removed, I will repost. Today is 8-9-2022.

As others have noted, the office e-mails your appointment confirmation. You also do not have to wait long. Your appointment time is 100% legit; you will not be sitting around twidling your thumbs or having to read ancient magazines. Beyond that, I had a thorough examination of my teeth and gums, received a great cleaning, and a clear, concise explanation of my "dental condition". I am very happy to have found Dr. Zuckerberg and can only hope my quest to find a general practioner ends as successfully.

The dentist who saw me at the end was also very nice, although unfortunately I didn't catch her name. One thing I did find uncomfortable was the way one employee interacted with her coworkers. Every interaction I witnessed during my visit came across as noticeably pointed and harsh. I obviously don't know the context of those conversations, so I don't want to speculate, but it was enough that I noticed it throughout my appointment. At one point, I even overheard her make a pretty disparaging comment about a coworker as I was leaving. Again, I don't know the circumstances, but the overall dynamic was jarring and detracted from an otherwise really positive experience. I don't feel comfortable publicly naming the employee, but I wanted to mention it because it was noticeable during my visit. Aside from that, I was very happy with my appointment and would otherwise be happy to return. Joshua was great, the dentist was kind, and everyone else I interacted with was welcoming.

However, when I did go, the staff were so accommodating with my schedule and let me know when openings were available if someone cancelled last minute. Fortunately I lived in walking distance from the clinic so the convenience was a major factor. Although if you do not live close by, you have to find parking in the neighborhood I believe, unless there is a parking lot in the back - not 100% sure. I've had wonderful hygienists every time I've gone there and Dr. Samaddar is incredibly nice. However, every time I've gone she always suggests getting Invisalign, which based on conversations with a few of my dentist friends, is always something many dentists say to gain profit for their clinic (and Invisalign is not covered by insurance FYI). And sure - prevention is important. Giving SCSC the benefit of the doubt, one of the hygienists there was so thorough, and she was educational and suggested several ways I can maintain my teeth - I wish I remembered her name but kudos to her! All in all I would recommend this place only IF your insurance is in fact IN NETWORK!

If 3 dentists said no cavities, there's something wrong with 1 that says so.

None of this nonsense where you fill out tons of paperwork ahead of your appointment only to be handed a clipboard and asked to do it all over again in person. Third: everybody, from Dr. Romsa to the front desk person, is extremely friendly and personable. The vibe was kind of like I was hanging out with new friends who just so happen to work in orthodontics. The office itself is very modern and bright, while still being warm and welcoming. Fourth: they were very timely. Despite the fact that there were several other people there when I arrived for my 9:00 appointment, I was taken care of right away, and was never left sitting alone waiting on the next step. Fifth: great website with very clear instructions on how to find them. Street parking in the area can be hit-or-miss, but the Trader Joe's garage is a good, reliable option. Sixth: I went in expecting to replace a broken bottom retainer - one of the old school pink-and-wire ones from (literally) 2005 - because a little piece of the plastic had chipped off the back. After seeing that it still fit and served its purpose, Dr. Romsa offered to just polish the broken edge to make it comfortable, and sent me on my way! With a new retainer case to boot! No making me a new retainer I didn't need. No upselling me on what I am sure is cooler, newer retainer technology. No pointing out any imperfections that have cropped up since I got my braces off almost two decades ago. All around just a fantastic experience. My only regret is that I may not ever have a reason to go back. But if something does come up, I know exactly where I'll go!

The office staff was friendly and helpful as well - they were great about reminding me of my appointment and making sure I could find the office (the elevators are near the USPS location in L'Enfant Plaza - there are different wings but their wing has a sign pointing you to the right elevator bank). I came to see you after a Google search for "best orthodontist in Washington, DC" - you were the first and only orthodontist that I visited for a consultation. I was convinced immediately that you could handle my orthodontic issues by your informational consultation and the benevolent staff of Shefferman Orthodontics (I absolutely love Marie - she is the best!). I came to you at the ripe age of 35 with a pronounced diastema (a space or gap between two teeth) located between my front upper teeth and smaller ones between my lower teeth. I never liked having a gap between my front two teeth; it has always been a cause of embarrassment and dismay for me even though I have always been told that I was attractive and that the gap "fit me". I choose to be fitted with metal braces that had clear brackets on the front upper and lower teeth although you gave me the option to choose Invisalign if I wanted a less noticeable solution. To address my fears about my gap opening back up after removal of my braces, you also decided to install a permanent retainer behind my upper front teeth. The 22 months that I was treated were a breeze! I had very little discomfort, reassuring visits and affordable payment options. I actually kind of miss my braces sometimes. I am also very satisfied with the aftercare you provided me (included in the price of the orthodontic treatment) - I have made consistent 6 month visits since December of 2014 and you have only recently released me once you were confident that my smile was stable. Many of these orthodontists now have super busy offices, seeing 80 plus patients a day. These types of practices can leave you feeling a bit confused because no one has time to really talk with you due to so many patients. Dr Sheferrman, even though I only saw him for a consultation and not treatment, doesn't have that style of a practice. The others are not bad, it just depends on your patient-style as to what you prefer in an orthodontist. Adult patients normally are more interactive than child patients and Dr Shefferman has a majority of adults.

Knowing how nervous I was, Shana, the person who did the cleaning, and Dr. Izadi went out of their way to help me relax. There was an issue with my insurance. Chimere called and let me know that everything was all set. On another note, I used to go to a different dentist's office for years, but my current insurance does not cover it. However, the prices at West End Dental are a lot more reasonable. I'm glad I found them. I would definitely recommend them.
