Kumra has been an amazing partner in our son's oral health and development. We got a late start because we were overseas in his early teens, but everyone at Kumra has worked patiently and compassionately with our son to improve his bite and his smile. He has not closely followed the protocol for Invisalign, but Dr. Mina has been an absolute gem: giving gentle encouragement or matter-of-fact redirection as needed. Everyone from the receptionists to the assistants are friendly, polite and professional. You can't go wrong with Kumra Orthodontics. (Alas, our son prefers that I not post a pic of him and his pretty smile) read more

Kumra is THE BEST. I was actually sad to finish my check-ups because I will miss the team! From the helpful, sweet ladies at the front desk to the office management staff (thanks for the delightful coffees!!), knowledgeable orthodontic/clinical assistants and, of course, Dr. Mina and Dr. Bob, they're all amazing! I received excellent and reasonably priced treatment for realigning my upper and lower teeth to not hit (and prevent damage!) - and it was always such a nice experience. Good people who really care and really know their stuff. Whether you wind up primarily seeing the fabulous Dr. Mina or Dr. Bob (what a card!), you can't go wrong. Also loved that they can make their own "Invisilign," which is a more approachable option and works all the same. Also, the parking garage at 1160 19th St. NW is super close, very reasonable on Spot Hero, and likewise, super nice folks!! Cannot recommend Kumra enough! (DC-location patient). read more

I went to Kumra Orthodontics after dealing with a dental issue that had impacted my appearance--and my confidence--for nearly a year. Due to an issue with my bite, I kept biting my lip, which caused swelling and scar tissue. It became noticeable when I ate and talked, and it honestly made me shy away from social interactions. I kept putting off seeing an orthodontist, and after this experience, I truly wish I hadn't. My free consultation was better than I could have imagined. From the initial phone intake to the stunning, luxurious office, every single staff member was friendly, caring, and genuinely invested in making me feel comfortable. The entire experience felt thoughtful and personalized, and I walked away feeling fully informed about my care and next steps. Jessica handled my intake and X-rays and made the entire process completely stress-free. She took the time to get to know me as an individual, asked thoughtful questions about my concerns and hopes, and was clearly knowledgeable and capable. Viviana, the practice manager, is truly an angel on earth. She radiates warmth and kindness and clearly loves what she does--it shows in every interaction. I had absolutely no reservations or fear because of her care and reassurance. And Dr. Mina... I don't even have the words. She was honest, compassionate, and incredibly thorough. I never once felt pressured into an expensive or unnecessary treatment. We reviewed my X-rays together, she answered every question, and we came up with a plan that was conservative, affordable, and effective. They also referred me to an oral surgeon to evaluate the scar tissue on my lip to determine whether it would resolve on its own or needed to be addressed. That level of care and foresight truly meant so much to me. I walked in terrified and resigned to the idea that I might need braces. Instead, after discussing my options, I ordered retainers. Viviana did my scans and talked me through everything so I felt completely at ease. They even put in a rush order so I wouldn't have to be uncomfortable any longer than necessary. I am beyond grateful for this team and will absolutely be a lifelong patient. If you're considering orthodontic care--don't go anywhere else. Just go to Kumra Orthodontics. read more

I wanted to thank you for the free evaluation you did of me, and for letting me know that I did not need braces. I greatly appreciated your honest appraisal, especially as my dentist had tried to talk me into getting Invisalign. I had been having jaw tension, and after many attempted solutions over two years, I finally found the problem. I wanted to share the solution in case it might help others. My problem turned out to be undiagnosed sleep apnea which was causing facial tension. I now use a CPAP machine at night, and all the facial tension is gone. You kindly saw me for a free evaluation. I had been experiencing jaw tension. At one point, my jaw popped as I was chewing and it was very painful. I also would rather frequently accidently bite the side of my tongue. Before I ever had jaw tension, my dentist had tried to talk me into getting Invisalign, so I visited you to check if I might need braces. You did an x-ray and exam, and you said I did not need braces. You told me if anyone tells me I need braces then I should run. You suggested yoga for stress relief.  Over the last two years I tried yoga, cardio exercise, strength training to improve posture, doctor's visits, physical therapy, dry needling therapy to release facial tension, ergonomic work space, hypnotherapy, and a chiropractor. I've had all kinds of tests done, and everything came back normal. Finally, a doctor I saw suggested I have a sleep test, even though I sleep perfectly fine and my wife who is a light sleeper says she never hears me snoring. The sleep test revealed I have sleep apnea. I got a CPAP machine, and this has made my sleep much more restful and eliminated all the jaw tension. The change using the CPAP machine feels like a miracle.  Thank you again for the free exam and for not trying to sell me braces like my (former) dentist! read more

I have only wonderful things to say about Kumra Orthodontics! I am finishing up Invisalign with Dr. Bob and his team. From my first appointment to post treatment appointments, I always felt welcomed and comfortable with the entire staff. It feels like everyone is genuinely excited to see you and is rooting with you throughout your orthodontic journey. I got to know technicians and they would ask about things I had shared with them during previous appointments weeks prior, like how planned vacations had gone. It is clear that you are more than just a patient at Kumra - you are cared about and valued as an individual. I had a difficult case in that I wanted my orthodontist to keep a small gap in my front two teeth. It is how I know and love my smile and while I wanted to reduce further spread of my other teeth, I didn't want to lose that specific trait. Many other orthodontists I interviewed were at best hesitant to take on the challenge, but Dr. Kumra was more than happy to work with me and discuss my options to achieve my dream smile. I could not be happier with my results and highly recommend Kumra Orthodontics! read more

I love Kumra Orthodontics. We all understand that Orthodontics can be expensive and isn't always covered by our dental insurance. Kumra works with me and is assisting me in achieving the goal for my teeth. They are very thorough and passionate about their clients. They check in on me and bring me in whenever I have discomfort. I could not speak more highly of the ENTIRE Kumra staff. The handle me with great care and I would recommend them to anyone who wants to have a more beautiful smile! read more

Admittedly, I am skeptical of organizations that have perfect 5 star ratings, particularly when that business is an orthodontist, because who really enjoys going to the orthodontist?!? Kumra Orthodontics is one business that more than deserves their 5 star rating! They are phenomenal and make it an actual joy to go to the orthodontist! Dr. Kumra, Mareville, and his staff are true professionals. They know you by name, do what they can to work around your schedules (even offering early morning or later in the evening appointments when needed), and are all extremely friendly. Dr. Kumra provides you with a realistic timeline, all of the options, and is a partner throughout the entire process. From the moment when my wife and I reviewed options for invisalign to now, when we are nearly done (an 18 month period), Dr. Kumra and his team have been nothing short of exceptional. They met us where we were financially by reviewing payment options, met us where we were schedule-wise by working around our calendars and finding times that were most accommodating to us, and by going above and beyond to provide exceptional service. When I needed a tooth pulled and my dentist was unwilling to do so, Dr. Kumra took the extra step to refer a dentist to complete the procedure, find a location that was convenient, and coordinate the procedure based on my schedule. I've never experienced such stellar service. Kumra Othodontics makes going to the orthodontist a quick, painless, and (dare I say) fun experience! I cannot recommend them enough! read more

I went to Kumra Orthodontics to get fitted for Invisalign. From the time I called the office the service has been great. The receptionist Francine is always in a pleasant mood and does not hesitate to flash her beautiful smile upon your arrival. The staff is top notch. Jennifer () and Iris are always a pleasure to be around. They do their jobs quickly without making you feel rushed, and always have nice conversation while doing what needs to be done. Even Merribell who handles the finances makes paying for my liners a nice experience. But what about the doctor(s)? Well! Dr. Kumra is really good at his what he does. He's personable, knows his craft and provides everything and more that a good orthodontist should. You can tell he's good at what he does two ways. 1) Everyone in the waiting room is smiling (before and after their appointments!) 2) His staff seems happy to be at work. Dr. Kumra even has an exceptionally high caliber associate. Dr. Mina! I saw Dr. Mina for my most recent visit and check up. It was a fantastic experience. Dr. Mina was great! She came in and immediately made me feel as if we were old friends, but friends that recognize a job needs to be done. Oh yes, she went right to work, but I didn't feel like she was working. I felt like she was helping me feel and look better, and enjoying herself while she did. She's awesome! She knows her profession, is quick with a warm smile and laugh and really seems to delight in what she does, which let's you know she's going to give you her best, not because she has to but because she wants to! read more

Kumra Orthodontics definitely deserves its 5 star rating. Dr. Kumra and his staff are amazing. My permanent retainer broke (wires poking into my mouth), and I needed an emergency fix. I had never been to an orthodontist in DC, so I called around and was denied twice before I called Dr. Kumra's office. He really tried to fit me in, and offered to have me come in that afternoon! I was in and out of the office in 20 minutes. I can tell that they will do what they can to work around your schedules, and they were all so nice. I was so impressed by how helpful and thoughtful they were to someone they had never treated before. I will definitely come back here for any future need, and will recommend to everyone I know. read more

Thank you so much Dr. Kumra and Dr. Mina for giving me the smile of my dreams! I had braces in high school and experienced some shifting of my teeth in my mid-20s. I was never happy with my smile and was very self conscious about it. Everyone would tell me, "your teeth look straight," but to me, the small movements of my teeth were very apparent. Dr. Kumra understood this and we decided to do the in-house aligners that Dr. Mina makes on their 3D printer. She did an amazing job and would rescan my teeth after each set of 5 aligners. Dr. Kumra and his staff truly care about their patients and love seeing the happy smiles at the end of the process. Thank you so much Dr. K and Dr. Mina for giving me my confidence back! read more

I do not even know where to begin regarding how amazing Kumra Orthodontics is! It has been my dream to transform my smile. Dr. Kumra understood this and made sure to make it happen. I recently transferred my orthodontic treatment to Dr. Kumra's office, and it was the best decision I've made in quite some time. Prior to scheduling an appointment at Kumra Orthodontics, I gave the office a call. The person who answered the phone had a very kind, warm voice and made me feel comfortable with explaining the reason for my call. She assured me that she would pass my information along to Dr. Kumra and that he would call me back. Shortly thereafter, he called me back as promised. Excellent turn-around time! I was scheduled for a consultation a few days later. My first visit was during the holiday season. The office smelled like Christmas trees and there were little silver snowflakes hanging from the ceiling! This all was very cool to me. Also, the waiting area is spacious and comfortable, yet there's rarely anyone in it because patients are called back promptly. The staff is friendly and efficient. Literally everyone is smiling and being pleasant! One of the things I like the most about the office is that each room is sectioned off. At the last orthodontist I went to, all of the chairs were beside each other, so there wasn't really any opportunity for one-on-one visits with your orthodontist. Everyone was seated beside each other. At Kumra Orthodontics, you have your own space and that actually does a lot to contribute to each patient feeling like attention is being paid specifically to them. It's perfect. Dr. Kumra himself is also amazing. He is very professional in all regards. Prior to starting to work with me, he informed me that he'd need to call my last orthodontist as a professional courtesy before moving forward. That was very admirable in my opinion. Afterward, during my first official visit, he made sure that I knew all of my options, discussed pricing with me and made sure that I knew his goal was to ensure my satisfaction...best results. I really appreciated that. I am not orthodontist, so having one actually take the time to explain what's happening with my teeth and being realistic about what I can achieve and what I cannot is such a breath of fresh air. Dr. Kumra is passionate about his profession and cares a lot about how people regard it. He dos his best to ensure that no one feels negatively toward orthodontics after completing their treatment and that everyone has a wonderful experience. I highly recommend Dr. Kumra and his practice to anyone in the DMV seeking quality orthodontic treatment at a practice that will go above and beyond to ensure patient satisfaction and comfortability. read more

I had a wonderful experience with Kumra Orthodontics. After starting Invisalign with my longtime general dentist, I had to leave due to the office's lengthy delay, unresponsiveness, and overall rudeness. I then found Kumra Orthodontics and Dr. Mina online and wow, what a difference. She transitioned me over to their in-house aligners and finished out my treatment within a couple of months. Everyone there is friendly, responsive and took their time to make sure I was satisfied. Very pleasant experience. read more

The staff is wonderful, the office is so clean and aesthetically pleasing, and the doctors are top-notch. They got me in ASAP for an emergent situation and were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. Out of pocket prices are very reasonable as well, especially for DC. Everyone who wrote a previous review is correct, Dr. Kumra is amazing!! I cannot explain my high disdain for those in the dental profession due to consistent misdiagnosis, circumlocutions and overcharging every single time I go. But Dr. Kumra was steady and sure, albeit I just needed rebonding of a permanent retainer. He not only fixed my retainer appropriately, but then talked me through additional options as well as scheduling a follow up for three weeks out. I didn't feel rushed in his chair, quite the opposite; for this most minute of repairs he took half an hour. It felt great to have someone who not only seemed like he loved his job, but who wanted to take the time to ensure thorough comprehension before departure. Please do not hesitate to go to him, except for the fact that he is a Cowboys fan, , his office may be the best kept dental secret in this area. Thanks Dr. Kumra! read more

Dr Kumra and Dr. Mina are fantastic and know how to keep their patients happy! I went in for a retainer replacement and the turnaround time was super quick, which isn't always the case! Even went in for a repair on my retainer replacement and walked out the same day with a new set. Mina and staff personally walked me through how to properly insert and take out my new retainers, super helpful. I absolutely will be back and recommend to anyone new to the area or looking to perfect their smile! Thanks Mina! read more

The glowing reviews about Dr Kumra and Dr Mina are true! I'm excited to be writing my own after completing my Invisalign treatment. Since my initial consultation, Dr Kumra and Dr Mina have been patient and thorough. I am nervous about all dental visits by default but Dr Kumra and Dr Mina always made sure I am comfortable. As a student, I especially appreciated their flexibility in scheduling appointments and payment options. I went to Kumra Orthodontics DC office as I wanted to fix an imperfection and was beyond pleased to get braces from Dr. Mina Abdolahi! The Doctors and staff take pride in their work and they greet you with smiles and always brighten my day after leaving their office. Dr. Mina is extremely careful, concise, and a true expert at what she does. I have very sensitive teeth and she always takes a gentle approach to make sure that I am not in any discomfort or pain. I went to Kumra Orthodontics for braces treatment; I saw them for about a year. This practice is exceptional. Every member of the staff -- the orthodontists, assistants, financial/operations folks-- are professional, kind, happy, and aim to be honest and transparent with you at every step. I saw Dr. Mina, and she is wonderful. Energetic, efficient, kind. I saw Dr. Kumra once and had the same experience. The service I received was not only excellent, but so was the pricing. While having braces was not fun, the whole process was exponentially better because I received treatment and care from Kumra Orthodontics. read more

I went to Dr. Kumra for a consultation a few months ago. The staff was nice, the office was clean. By far the best orthodontist in the DMV. Hands down! When I went in for my consultation Dr. K showed me the results of his previous clients and methodically walked me through the process and took the time to answer all my questions. He was not pushy or "sales-y" at all. I actually took the night to think about it in and the next day I called the office and told him I was in and they got me started. A few days later my trays came in. After 24 hours I was so frustrated and irritated with the trays. As I was warned me, it was awkward getting use to this foreign plastic object rubbing against my teeth. I called Dr. K (on a weekend, by the way) and he urged me to give it 72 more hours. I fought through it and stuck with it and it has been the best experience since then. I am about 75% done with my treatment and my results are awesome. So glad I stuck with it and worked with Dr. K. This just goes to show you the type of professional your dealing with. Incredibly empathetic, knowledgeable, and overall just great guy. If youve ever thought about doing the treatment this is the guy and the practice you want to work with. read more

I had put off Invisalign for years but finally decided to take the plunge in December 2019. So glad I went with Kumra Orthodontics in DC. Dr Kumra and his staff are kind, professional and run a really well oiled ship. Appointments are on time, and they've had good Covid protocols through the pandemic. I mostly saw Dr Abdolahi, and really liked her calm, upbeat approach. I have a little dental anxiety and she and the techs were always very kind and patient if I needed a break during an appointment. My first clinical experience here was exceptional. The standout element was the personalized care that I received. Dr. Kumra is highly skilled at his practice and demonstrated an unparalleled focus on patient-centric services, going the extra mile to address my specific situation and meet my needs during our morning appointment. He devoted ample time to thoroughly explain my treatment options and each component of the treatment plan, doing so in a manner that was both patient, straightforward, and transparent. Dr. Kumra will also go out of his way to put a smile on the faces of all of his patients, including myself. Dr. Kumra is fantastic! I didn't have an orthodontist in DC, but I needed to see someone due to a broken permanent retainer. UPDATE #2 My teeth are looking so much better. Took a few months to start seeing results, but flossing has never been smoother. Soldier on! read more

Overall: Dr. Bob Kumra and his team are THE BEST. I had (clear) ceramic brackets and a silver metal wire for braces. I begged him for the ceramic braces because I was 34 when I got them on. A lot of doctor's prefer the metal brackets because they believe they are more durable (Hi, kids!). In addition to braces in my 30's I qualified for orthognathic surgery... upper and lower jaw surgery. What a treat! JK. Orthognathic Surgery: My surgeon was Dr. Andrea Bonnick (Chair of Howard University's Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and who I also highly recommend). In preparation for the surgery, Dr. Kumra and Dr. Bonnick coordinated every step of the way and took the time to meet with my parents before and after the surgery. He also coordinated care with my dentist, Dr. Terry Kristalis (I also recommend him -- I have the best teeth and jaw doctors!!) Staff Demeanor: Dr. Kumra has a wonderful bedside manner. He is friendly and kind and his first priority is proper care and technique. His staff is also wonderful, always friendly, and responsive to your needs as a patient. If I ever had questions or concerns I was able to reach Dr. Kumra and his staff right away. Office: Dr. Kumra's office is downtown and conveniently a few blocks from the Farragut North and Farragut West metro stations. He takes insurance and offers some payment plans. It was a smooth process from an insurance and payment perspective and his appointments were almost always on time. Tips for Future Patients: Get yourself a Water Pik/Water Flosser - I still use mine and I haven't had braces in months (they really help to keep your teeth and gums cleaner). Buy at Target or Bed Bath with 20% off. Dr. Kumra sells one for a discount as well. Glide Threader Floss is one of the best products for flossing because flossing with braces is the worst but make sure you do it. I like a white smile and wish I had whitened my teeth some before getting the braces (just with Crest Whitestrips, nothing fancy or professional). This is personal preference but I think white teeth blend in better with the clear ceramic brackets. Also coffee, tea, and spices like turmeric yellow the rubber bands that go around the brackets making your teeth appear less white. I never felt that drinking from a straw really helped to limit the discoloration of the bands. You will survive, it is just something to keep in mind. I didn't stop drinking coffee but I did limit curry etc until a few days before I was going to have my bands replaced. Do Your Part: Wear your retainer! Wear your Invisalign (otherwise it will take much longer than estimated to straighten your teeth). Dr. Kumra and staff will tell you what you need to do but the patient has an impact on the results and the timing of those results so keep your end of the bargain. It will be worth it and you will be happy you followed the "rules." Dr. Kumra estimated how long I would have my braces and he was right on point. I also was a good patient. ;) Summary: I've been in Washington DC for twelve years and finding reliable and good medical care that is also covered by insurance can be challenging at times. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Kumra and his staff. Reviews don't lie, there is a reason he has a million FIVE STAR ratings. Stop reading reviews and go make an appointment to see Dr. Kumra, you will be glad you did! read more

When visiting a number of Orthodontists, I ultimately decided to go with Kumra Orthodontics although it was out of my dental network. I love Dr. Kumra and his staff! I'm near the end of my invisalign treatment and I couldn't be more thrilled. My teeth look great, and I'm so thankful to have found Kumra Orthodontics. Dr. Kumra is easily the best medical professional I've ever been to and his assistant Mareville is the sweetest! Hammering out the pricing/insurance was easy, and Mareville is very transparent about the costs. No financial surprises! It's easy to tell that Dr. Kumra really loves what he does. It shows not only in the level of detail he puts into his work, but also in the way he treats his clients with the upmost respect and kindness. Everyone in that office is professional, skilled, and extremely personable. It makes the experience of coming back every 6-8 weeks enjoyable, strangely fun (?), and not at all a drag. The biggest challenge in writing a review for Kumra Orthodontics is to somehow capture how outstanding every aspect of my experience was without sounding cheesy or over-the-top. Dr. Kumra is as kind, thoughtful, and professional as is humanly possible. He runs his business right. First, he provides great service. My teeth were all over the place but Dr. Kumra straightened them out. Second, he and his staff are ultra professional. This includes everything from being responsive to emails and calls, to helping reschedule appointments, and creating a friendly and welcoming space. Third, his prices are fair and reasonable. I shopped around before I decided on Kumra Orthodontics and his prices were the best. Perhaps most cool of all is that I have a genuine friend in Dr. Kumra. As I searched through orthodontists my criteria never included, "awesome person that I'd like to hang out with in real life" but as it turns that is what I got (in addition to getting my teeth fixed and not breaking the bank). If its not clear already, I am a huge fan of Kumra Ortho. I've happily recommended him to friends and family and am happy to recommend him here too. read more
