This place didn't need to be as good as it was! The cafe is decorated in such a cute way and I have to give a nod to their lighting design. It makes the space light yet cozy. The breakfast banh mi was super delicious and the tea was great too. Fast service as well. Would definitely recommend. read more

This shop is SO cute and convenient for working and holding business meetings! We used to have monthly meetings there for a freelance job I had before. The tables and booths are big enough to fit a group of people. We usually had about 6 of us and the tables were comfortable and had plenty of outlets. It is a very chill atmosphere and would be a good spot to read a book too. I love their coffee, bubble tea, and pastries. I haven't tried their bahn mi or bowls because oftentimes they are sold out later in the day. When we would have morning meetings, I would get either an almond milk latte or sometimes I would add lavender. My colleague would always get the french press coffee and we would laugh as he would carry a full pot of coffee over to the table. If you are planning on working there for a few hours, the french press might be a good idea! I love their coconut bubble tea and taro bubble tea. You pick green or black tea, then your flavor, then if you want boba or jelly, and pick your sweetness level and milk. I LOVE that they let you pick the sweetness and the milk. This most recent time I was super bummed they were out of boba, so I tried something a little different. I got black tea with taro flavor, lychee jelly (wow-addicting) with almond milk and 0 sweetness. I knew it would be sweet from the lychee jelly. It was really good even though it didn't have the chewy tapioca pearls. They also have great pastries. I'm not sure where they get them from, but they are always fresh! The employees are always very friendly and willing to suggest things on the menu. They have a small section for outdoor seating too. This place is easy to pass over since it is a little bit secluded on Penn Ave. It is near Piazza Talarico and Arsenal Cider for reference. Next time I hope to try one of their veggie bowls! read more

I love Ineffable Ca Phe!! I tell all my friends to stop in for awesome food and coffee. Ineffable Ca Phe has coffee and bubble tea. Our favorite thing to order is the Vietnamese drip coffee. It takes some time to make but it is so worth it. The flavor is strong and delicious. I also really enjoy their mocha; it is not sweet at all. They have great food as well. I always order a banh mi. On weekends they have my favorite, the sunny banh mi (egg instead of pork). Their braised pork banh mi is also delicious. They offer a tofu banh mi as well for vegetarian visitors. Ineffable Ca Phe is also a great place to work or study. The inside is very cozy and relaxing. read more

What brought me here was the really cool "coffee passport" someone gifted me for Christmas! I was so happy I came as soon as I entered the place... the coffee shop has ample room, especially on a beautiful sunny day. From a side area with twinkle lights, an w covered patio, as well as a very spacious inside, all with outlets. I think it's very convenient if you want to do work there (which I did). It is also one of the most welcoming cafes I've come across in Pittsburgh... they really want you to stay and enjoy yourself, making everything easy to obtain- water, wifi, etc. Lastly, the food was AMAZINGGGG and definitely reasonably priced! read more

Very cute place! Nice decor and seating - it's a cool touch that some of the tables are old Singer sewing machines. The banh mis are decent but the meats aren't as flavorful as you get at really good banh mi places. I wish they had the classic traditional banh mi with pate and cha lua, but their offerings are not bad. The cold brew Vietnamese coffee is an Americanized halfway between ca phe sua da and American iced coffee - I'd recommend getting their actual ca phe sua da. read more

The best banh mi in the city! Love coming here. Friendly staff and very quaint surroundings!

This place was amazing! I've never seen a hipster coffee shop serving Banh Mi's. I wasn't really sure whether this place was a coffee shop or a delightful Banh Mi kitchen, but either way -- the coffee and banh mi were both really delightful. I'd skip the Pho next time. The Banh Mi (I think I had the pork belly) was delightfully tasty and the bread was perfectly done. The chicken pho was just okay, but the Cortado and Vietnamese coffee were both incredible! I also loved the layout, how work-friendly this place seemed and the comfortable tables. read more

Vietnamese coffee is great! Nice and refreshing and they offer it in both a freshly brewed and cold brew option both of which are pretty good. Three hot option does take a while (~10 minutes). In addition the have banh mi sandwiches which are pretty good in my option. I have tried there pork belly and the braised pork which are both simple but very tasty. Would highly recommend. Both of which are better there the sandwiches from down the street vietnamese restaurant. Dog friendly based on how many people being their dogs. Would highly recommend. We can't stop coming here for breakfast/ early lunch read more

Tasty bahn mi at a solid price and the best lemonade you'll ever have. Not my favorite bahn mi ever so giving it 4 stars. The staff here is awesome and I 12/10 recommend and definitely would go back! Would be an awesome space to hang with friends and eat! read more

Ordered a Vietnamese drip coffee and two chicken lemongrass banh mi's. The sandwich was so good that I forgot to Tae a picture until I was halfway through! Something I was cautious about was the bread- some places service pretty..."toasted"...French bread. This bread was warm and didn't start a war with the roof of my mouth, so that's a big plus. The coffee took ten minutes to make (I was warned before ordering so I knew what I was getting into) and was pretty small, maybe 4 oz? I wanted to try something new and I did (and I have no regrets). I'm definitely going back for the pork belly banh mi and egg coffee. read more

Ineffable Ca Phe - Nearly finished Banh MI GA Xa Ot (Lemongrass Chicken Sandwich) - Vietnamese Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

I had high hopes for the banh mi from Ineffable Ca Phe. I love the combination of flavors from seasoned meat, vinegary pickles, cilantro, and spicy sauces in a fresh baguette. It's the perfect takeout food! However, I was disappointed by what I got here. I ordered two banh mi -- one banh mi thit kho (braised pork belly), and one banh mi thit nuong (grilled pork). For the price of $8.50 per sandwich, I got untoasted baguettes with a laughably small amount of meat and vegetables in each one. In total, I would say about a tablespoon of meat in each half of a sandwich, with a few sprigs of cilantro and equally small amount of pickled vegetables. Jalapeños were on the side, as I had requested. It was the ratio of filling to bread that bothered me most, and not the flavor. The baguettes were even hollowed out on one side, to accommodate the extra air in the sandwich. Aside from this, the little meat in the grilled pork banh mi was also quite dry. The pork belly banh mi was less dry due to additional sauce. Flavor was lacking. Non-food observations: Take-out only due to the ongoing pandemic, so no comment on the service. There was one person manning the cash register and making sandwiches on the afternoon of my visit. It is very nice that they have a two car lot in front, but I imagine it gets crowded under normal circumstances. Verdict: I don't know what the bar is for this type of sandwich in Pittsburgh, but their banh mi is decidedly below average. I feel like I got extra unlucky with the banh mi today -- it could have been because it was takeout, maybe they were understaffed, or both. It doesn't account for the sandwich being bland, though. I'll seek my next banh mi elsewhere. read more

I'm pretty sure I just ordered the wrong thing. Don't do pho, just don't. Stay with a banh mi and you should be fine. The pho was far from authentic. Where are the bean sprouts? Basil? Sigh. Worse was the chicken. Like cooked chicken breast cut into a few pieces and thrown in. Double sigh. Don't get me started on the broth....... Food 2 stars. The tea selection was good and tasty. Can't speak for the coffee, though did seem like a popular choice. Drinks 4 stars. We came on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed. The space we found worked to plug up for a bit, but didn't offer much space to eat and work. We quickly moved our dishes after we finished to enjoy tea while plugging away. Our spot was suboptimal by the back door. It was raining, so water made it's way in (keep your bags off the floor!). If you can find a spot elsewhere, then I'd recommend doing so. Environment 3 stars. read more

Ineffable Ca Phe - Pho with chicken......just no. - Vietnamese Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Ok as a a second gen Vietnamese person that grew up on the west coast I've had my fair share delicious banh mis that costs as much as a cup of coffee. By Pittsburgh standards this is pretty good and makes for a decent lunch however did not meet my expectations for what a banh mi should be. The bread was ok, but lacked the crunchy outer shell and fluffy interior of a true banh mi. The jalapeños were not spicy at all and there wasn't even cilantro. The pickled carrots were too thin and didn't include daikon. The pork belly meat was quite good and absolutely melted in your mouth but could have been marinated in more spices and more fish sauce. I know there aren't a lot of Vietnamese places around here so I know I can't be too choosy, but I think I'll save my banh mi cravings for when I'm back at home. read more

My friend took me here so that we could study together, and I'm honestly so confident that this place...once the school year picks up...business will be booming! The interior design is not only beautiful but so efficient too! Somehow a garage became an INSTA-WORTHY environment. The light fixtures and simplistic design ultimately create the perfect spot for studying, catching up with an old friend, or relaxing on your own. Unlike most cafes, this place has PLENTY of seating! Not only that, but there are booths in which you can adjust the lighting and have your own personal outlets! Another bonus? FREE WI-FI! The password is posted where the trash cans, napkins, sugar and cream are. How is the food? The menu is perfect! Not too overwhelming nor is it limiting. The Banh Mi sandwiches are made with care and taste super fresh! You can choose among 4 types! And the drinks? Honestly the coffee is so good! It definitely tastes fresh and authentic, which means a lot coming from me because I'm super picky with my coffee! I got the Iced Vanilla Latte (as I was craving something sweet). You can ask for skim or whole milk. They even sell Vietnamese Drip Coffee! And they grind their beans to order! I have yet to try the bubble tea, but I have no doubt that it will be of quality as I've seen so many customers order the green tea! The bathrooms are clean and the service is so friendly! The guy who owns the place so evidently cares for the customers and puts his heart into his work! He talks to customers to see how he can improve the experience for everyone. I'm MOST DEFINITELY coming back! I low-key (selfishly) want to keep this place to myself, but I already know that I can't stop the buzz! And I wish the workers and the owner the best, though I'm confident they don't need luck with the overall quality of this business. UPDATE: They now have chicken pho on the menu! Have yet to try it myself but it sounds promising. The manager Ben is super super cool! The service here is exceptionally patient, helpful and personable. Can't say that about most places. I tried the bubble tea (Raspberry Green Tea with "1" sweetness and Pomegranate Popping Boba) and it was perfectly refreshing and fruity for a sunny day. Would get again! Excited to try other flavors and toppings. They offer non-dairy milk options (soy and almond milks), which is amazing. The raspberry flavor is sooo good especially because it's made with fresh juice (real bits of raspberry inside). Will definitely come again for a longer stay! (They have coffee, bubble tea and food!) read more

The ambience of the restaurant and the service were great. The seating area was very friendly for those who want to spend some time to study there - it was brightly lit with plenty of power outlets. However, the food I had was very underwhelming. The pho taste was not what I am used to (the spice was not balanced and very different from other Phos I have tried). The coffee was good but missed the characteristic richness from condensed milk and evaporated milk that a Vietnamese coffee should have. read more

The coffee and ambiance were very good. It's a spacious café with plenty of room for cozy reading. The food, however, was not. The banh mi tasted fine, but it was so greasy and cheesy that it left a bad feeling in the stomach. My friend's rice bowl also had a far too messy bunch of cilantro in it with no sauces. And way too expensive. read more

Nice place. Like the remodel/environment. Sat at a booth to do some work and have lunch. There were a few others working on there computers, too. The tables are all on very old/antique sewing machine stands. the booths seats are a little higher then a normal chair but comfy. The table was about the height of a computer table so easy to type but I did find myself leaning forward for some reason. Guess I like a harder backed chair to type when using my computer. Ordered a Banh Mi that was marinated pork that was cut into small strips with fresh cilanto. Added the sriracha to add some more taste. On a fresh baguette. A very good Banh Mi. Had a Bubble tea that was good. You can pick some flavors to add if you wish. there was some nice softer music playing in the background. read more

The pork belly rice bowl was delicious! I'm glad they have food options, specifically gluten free... Which you wouldn't expect with these dishes (that includes soy most of the time). I also do not like coffee and usually never drink it, but believe me when I tell you, get the Vietnamese Coffee. It is a cool process to watch and it is delicious! They really do have a wide selection of coffee, tea and non-caffeinated beverages. I ordered a lemonade the last time around and it was fresh and tasty. My only critique is that the booths are really high compared to the tables. Why does this matter? When you're working on your laptop, it is a back breaker for sure. Crouching over for hours is not good for anyone! I would hope at some point they'd raise the tables (I feel like that's the easiest option?). It's cool they're old sewing machine tables though... There's a cute little pop-up home goods shop now within the cafe. I really loved looking around and found some items I'd love to come back to purchase. I think it's really cool to give another small biz an opportunity to grow that really works with your concept to begin with. read more

** Hip atmosphere and tasty sandwiches. Decent portions and spacious. The first thing that stood out to me about this place was its atmosphere. Being from the Bay Area, I been to my fair share of San Francisco coffee houses and restaurants, and I immediately got SF vibes walking into this place. There are board games, plenty of space to work with laptop outlets, and good lighting for having a conversation or just eating. I got the lemongrass chicken banh mi, which I really enjoyed. Decent portion sized and definitely tasted good. They do add a few peppers in the banh mi, but I didn't think it was too bad. Although I didn't get any drinks, they have a decent size coffee and bubble tea selection. A bit out of the way for college students to get to but I definitely would want to come back here again if I have the chance! read more

The braised pork belly sandwich was delicious. I'm reeally not a sandwich person but this sandwich is an exception. It is absolutely delicious. The drip coffee is also excellent. The proportion of coffee to condensed milk was on point. In my last trip, I also got the chicken pho and bubble tea. They were both good too. Highly highly recommend the braised pork belly sandwich though. The only negative was the height of the tables in relation to the chairs. The table was a little too low. Anybody who stayed long enough would likely get a backache. read more

Believe it or not, I discovered Ineffable after attending a wedding here a few years ago, which was complete with banh mi sandwiches and an open bubble tea bar. It was a lovely, intimate reception. The menu is simple but affordable and delicious. The banh mi can also be made over rice instead of bread if that's more your speed. And the drink selection is incredible. Lots of coffee and latte options, milk options, and in my opinion, the best bubble tea in the city that I've had. I make a point to stop here whenever I'm in the area. It never disappoints. My only complaint is the parking situation if you're getting there by car. I usually do street parking on 39th and walk up to Penn. There is a bus stop nearby. read more

Ah, this place is so awesome. My go-to spot when I need to do some work on the computer or meet with a colleague. I usually get the Thai iced tea in the summer and or a chai latte in colder months. I was a little nervous to try another Banh Mi spot in Pittsburgh since my last was mediocre. But I thought this was different than what I'm used to back home in Boston so I gave it a try. The coffee wasn't as rich as I'd like because it was the cold brew but I assumed I had to wait for the drip if I wanted it over ice. So I settled for the cold brew but I don't think it's worth $6.5, maybe $5 max. I make Thit kho at home but never thought of it in a banh mi. It was good. The jalapeño had a spice and the mayo made it more creamy which I love. Bread was crispy enough and the meat to bread ratio was good. I'm glad I tried a banh mi here because it left a better impression than the last spot. read more

I would recommend this place for hangouts and for doing work. I love their banh mi pork belly, super delicious and really well made. Pretty please BYO mug to Ineffable! The space is lovely and the drinks and snacks are delicious, but they aren't able to provide non-plastic cups/lids currently. The location is great, and the parking makes it easy to get to by car. The ambiance is fantastic and make a a great spot to study. HOWEVER, they "weren't serving pho that day" on a rainy Thursday afternoon at 1pm... when the lady at the register could have just been honest and say they sold out. Spacious, versatile coffee shop and dining spot with ample indoor and outdoor seating. If you want to sit outside to enjoy the good weather on a Spring or Autumn day, there is an outdoor sofa you can sit on as well as a bench with a low-lying table and several desks. Indoors, you can also find a sofa and armchairs around a coffee table, as well as several booths. Pretty much every type of seating preference is accommodated here, which is an enormous advantage. There is also a leave one/take one bookshelf open to anyone who drops by. Customer service is usually highly quick and efficient, so don't anticipate that you will interact or converse with this cafe's serving staff at any length. The speed of service makes this an excellent place to go if you need a tea or coffee in a relative hurry, although the comfortable seating also makes this a good place to stay a while. The food served is generally in light quantities and doesn't lack in nutrition, making this one of the better guilt-free options if you are a diner who is sensitive to how many calories you take on. The principal dishes served are variations on rice bowls and banh mi sandwiches. There are specialty coffee beverages served in the Southeast Asian style (which is to say with lots of sugar and cream), but you won't have any issues ordering your coffee black: just be aware that the prices on coffee beverages here can be relatively steep. One major issue, thus the only 4 out of 5 stars - there is no recycling for food and beverage containers, which are almost all made of non-recyclable/non-biodegradable plastic. One workaround for beverages is to bring your own tumbler or to ask if you can instead use one of the metal cups this cafe uses for water. However, there is unfortunately no similar option for food. Aside from that minor qualm, highly recommended. Recommended food/drink combo: Any style of coffee, Pork Belly Rice Bowl read more

I'm a super fan of this Vietnamese coffee cafe! Mechanics auto garage turned into a spacious coffeehouse with stylish original Hipster decor.
