I love my dentist! I have been to many dentists in my life, and Dr. Sharma is the best of them all (with apologies to my cousin). She greets me with a warm smile, and has great technique administering novocaine. She is considerate and careful, and she recently did a wonderful job on porcelain veneers for my lower front teeth. Dr. Sharma is excellent! I have been seeing her for 3 years now I believe, and I am very happy with the care I receive from her and her staff. Prior to seeing Dr. Sharma I had some pretty traumatic experiences at the dentist and was quite scared of getting any work done. Slowly, since I have seen Dr. Sharma, my fear of dentistry is subsiding, and this is due to her excellent technique with administering shots and quick work while prepping/drilling/filling. I would highly recommend her to anyone, in fact I recently convinced my wife to start seeing her. Dr. Sharma is a great dentist. She is warm, friendly and very good at her job. I've been to this office three times and never had to wait for my appointment. Her staff is all very friendly and they accept the Delta Dental insurance I get as a UC Berkeley grad student. Best of all, I was very nervous about getting fillings replaced after a bad experience at an earlier dentist and she was so gentle. I barely felt the shots at all - they were far less painful than my flu shot! She was very patient when I requested another shot for my bottom tooth to numb it more and she was very careful and precise with my fillings, taking a her time to ensure that my bite aligned properly. I was treated poorly by this office. I had a cleaning in May, and asked to set up my appointment for 6 months in the future. I was told there were no appointments available in November or early December, which seemed strange to me. How can you be so booked up that you can't book a simple cleaning/checkup six-seven months in advance? (or do they just have more patients than they can really work with?) I was told, well someone will cancel between now and then, we'll put you on the list and if someone cancels we will call you, which always happens, no problem, don't worry. But as the months passed, no one called. I called and left a message in September to try to make an appointment: no one called back. I called again and got someone who after hearing me out said "OK, I'll call you back" but never did. I called again and got I think the same person, I quietly reminded her that the office said they would call months ago and never did, then no one answered my VM, and when I did reach someone they said they would call back and didn't, but OK, anyway, can I please get an appointment now? She put me on hold, then came back to tell me that it was all moot because the office no longer accepts DeltaCare. In other words I was given the runaround for months, avoided, and when I pointed this out to her politely, I was told I had been dropped. I did politely point out that this wasn't very fair since I had been waiting for months for an appointment I had been insured for with her office all this time, so to suddenly just tell me I"m dropped after wasting so much time over the months, wasn't very nice. But she didn't acknowledge that or apologize. Are they trying to treat people with DeltaCare rudely, wasting their time, and then dropping them? Anyway, it's no way to treat people. read more

I am writing this review regarding my case which recently happened with Berkeley Family dental. I have selected this place for myself and my wife through Delta dental insurance company. When I called Indu Sharma office for appointment the representative named "Lisa" asked me first about my insurance, and i gave my all insurance details and i was said that I will receive call in 2 hrs which i didn't receive it. After 30 hrs of wait, I called again to Dr. Sharma office and again I was said that i will receive call in another 2 hrs. All right, I received call in 2 hrs and one lady representative said me that I will get appointment after 3 month. Up to 3 month there is no space. She suggested me to find another dental service provider if i want to have appointment ealry. Strange!! You know what, When I visited their webpage online to find appointment then its available after 2 days. But through online service, they don't accept the people who has Delta Dental HMO plan. You should call them if you have HMO plan to book the appointment. And When you call their office, You know the story what they are doing. So, Finally they are discriminating the patient based one plan you have chosen. If they don't like the patient to visit who has HMO plan, why not they inform are accepting people to register it through Delta Dental HMO. Dr. Sharma, I was having severe pain in my tooth because of loose cap on a cavity. In a dual state of mind I luckily checked with Dr. Indu Sharma . I got nice treatment with a prompt estimated insurance coordinated statement. The staff was nice and co-operative. Instant relief from pain and returned home with a smiling face. I have few more complications notified to me by the doctor though it is far from my home,but I had decided to check with Dr. Sharma only because of treatment and services given to me. read more

Dr. Sharma was fine, she was attentive and did a good cleaning. Her staff, however, has been a nightmare to deal with. She recommended I get 6 fillings, which seemed excessive since I've never had a cavity before. After requesting to get my x-rays for a 2nd opinion from a family friend, they refused to waive the $25 fee to have my own x-rays e-mailed to me. They were supposed to send me a release for to my e-mail which I am still waiting on; I've left about 10 messages because they never pick up. I've decided to have the work done elsewhere because of how I've been treated by the staff. read more

This dental practice is pretty awful. The receptionist messes up appointments; Dr Sharma has never checked over what Dental Hygienist has done, and the Dental Hygienist is what I call "a nervous cleaner". Either she's got the shakes or her technique is to quickly move her instrument around your mouth a lot. Last time the Hygienist saw me she told me I had deep pockets in my gums, but fortunately for me they were having " a special" on treating my problem for only $250. I felt like I was talking to a used car salesman. A special offer of the week? Really!? Unfortunately, for them they forgot to tell me that their method of treatment only works for about 3-6 six week before it wears off. The only way to get rid of the bacteria in your gums is to get a deep cleaning from a Periodontist. When I asked for a name of one, they couldn't come up with a name. Probably because they'd have to share their fee with an outsider. I would not recommend this dental practice. They're unprofessional and not very good at all. read more

Long before Dr. Sharma & her motley crew, I have been going to this dental office on and off since 1969. (Both my adult children also went for years, but have subsequently left the fold after receiving lousy care.) Now that Dr. Sharma is "in charge" I will never ever walk thru those portals again. The operation/office is totally unprofessional, disorganized, (shoddy equipment), even an incident of double billing, et al. But if you received good dental health care you could overlook some of that. The coup de grace was--I had been having my teeth cleaned every 3 mos. to try and save my teeth (a recommendation from a local periodontist.and a former excellent hygienist under Dr. Yang.)--to supposedly stave off more bone loss, gum recession, etc.. It was clear that one of my teeth was extremely loose (had already lost one), which didn't seem to phase either the hygienist or Dr. Sharma. ("Just floss more." "Except for this one tooth, you will have your teeth for the rest of your life.") Dr. Sharma only consulted with me 2x over a year: With Sharma--No xrays; or density tests taken: Almost a month before my next cleaning in June; I could tell the loose tooth was getting infected; started having sinus headaches; pain/soreness: Explained this to the hygienist, hoping to see Dr. Sharma before the upcoming cleaning (or at minimum, that she would want to examine me.). The hygienist put me on hold for 8 mins., supposedly consulted with Dr. Sharma, and the big advice I got--"She said, take I-B Proferin." (Easy to figure that out on my own.) "That's it?" "Yeah, see you soon..." "Nobody wants to look at my tooth?" "No, that's not necessary." No follow up call, no concern, no nothing. Called another highly recommended dentist, got an appt. within 2 days for an "evaluation," he immediately took an xray, and the next thing I knew, 3 days later was having emergency oral surgery! After I recovered, called to cancel my appt. w/Sharma's office, and gave the receptionist an earful as to why. Also, called because the new (excellent/thorough/honest) dentist requested my records and any prior x-rays and was told that I had to call for a release. Except--Sharma's receptionist told me there were no records. Really?! (So I had to start from scratch) To add insult to injury (literally) about a week ago received a survey from Sharma's office, thanking me for my last visit--what visit? and that "your compliments" (!) could be posted online, Needless to say there were no compliments and if I could have checked less than 0, would have. There was further survey instruction not to talk about your personal experience, which I completely ignored. It is true Dr. Sharma personally seems nice enough, but who cares if this is the kind of treatment one receives? This is not meant as some petty vent--not only is dental care super expensive, having good/proper dental care can drastically affect your health overall. read more

Fantastic Dentist, very thorough and takes time, very compassionate, great staff and lovely office,

I first saw Dr. Sharma when I was in serious pain. I'd seen another dentist who told me to come back if the pain got worse. I somehow didn't trust him. So I looked on Yelp for a dentist, and Dr. Sharma came highly recommended. She immediately diagnosed that I had damage to a tooth, and I needed a root canal right away. It was a complex procedure and she had an endodontist do it, and her office got me in to the endodontist the same day. Dr. Sharma followed up with me, and also filled three cavities I had that the first dentist had overlooked. Her manner was gentle, and she explained what she was going to do before she did it, so I felt at ease. She's very friendly and caring. I'm glad I see her regularly now. read more

Dr. Indu is great. I was expecting to see another doctor when I discovered this office, and I was surprised to be greeted by her instead. I am quite happy to have had her service. She ended up finding 2 cavities (d'oh!) after my routine cleaning and I came in the next week reluctantly. I was trippin' for no reason! She expertly numbed my mouth with ZERO pain, taking the care to massage my cheek to distract me from my fear of needles. That was the hard part. She took care of both cavities within 20 minutes and I was out of there. She rocks and I can tell she cares quite a bit about her patients. Good doc. Go see her! read more

I have Delta Dental HMO and based on yelp reviews I decided to give Berkeley Family Dental a chance. BIG MISTAKE! I give this office 1 star based on their customer service. I was having a dental emergency and needed to get in for an emergency appointment as soon as possible. I called at 11:10 am, the receptionist picked up to tell me she was on her way to lunch and couldn't schedule an appointment and would call me back within the hour. 24 hours later she never called me back. I called the office several times after that and left at least two messages to schedule an appointment and never received a call from them. My final attempt, I finally reached the receptionist and explained that I was in a lot of pain and needed to get in as soon as possible and her response floored me..."Im sorry we dont have any openings until October and we will call you if there is a cancellation." Wow!!!! Really? This is how you treat your new patients? Needless to say, Berkeley Family Dental just lost a potential patient. I will be telling all of my family and friends about the unprofessional treatment I received before even setting foot in the office! read more
