And if you're a little tipsy, you might buy that bottle even if you really didn't want to. But then you'll taste the bottle later and curse Mitch for being right about the damn bottle. Anyway, always a mystery visit when I'm in town.

It's got that whimsical and jazzy bar feel with low lit seating inside, and a fire pit with lots of tables outside --- perfect for larger groups. Their menu is fun to look at and still have the classic drinks you'd get at the bar like Moscow mule and old fashioned, but with their own twist. I opted for the Modern Love with mezcal, amaro, passionfruit, and lime. Let's just say I was knocked outttt after sipping that...quite strong with no lime to be found but it was still a bit fruity. I really think Monterey needed a fresh vibe like Pearl Hour. So far my favorite drinks have been the modern love and after dark. The drink menu changes from time to time but the craftsmanship remains.

Sitting outside allowed us to still enjoy the music but also hold a conversation. This place seems very popular and I'd certainly come back. The vibes were exactly what I'm looking for as a 30 year old that enjoys an occasional night out. I did not snap a photo of the menu but they sell beer, wine and cocktails. There was a cool retro looking photo booth and caught my attention and I was upper bummed when I realized it was $7... unfortunately, I couldn't bring myself to spend $7 for two photos.

But 1) this place came highly recommended from a few forum threads from about a year ago (argh) and 2) they charge a $25 cancellation fee for reservations. I'll start with the ok -- the pasta wasn't bad. But $35 for each is a bit ridiculous. Michelin guide spots in LA and SF don't charge that much. Not bad though, which is pretty much the only win for the night. The wine pours are truly embarrassing and the restaurant should be ashamed of them. I haven't seen such a small, IKEA sized glass since I was in college. The worst part is that patrons ordering a bottle of wine had the normal wine glasses you expect. So they have those glasses, they just choose to nickel and dime those paying by glass. That alone is just such bad form. The service of course was the atrocious cherry on top. Our server wasn't egregiously awful so I won't name him... but he forgot multiple parts of our order, brought a drink out after we'd finished our meals (because it took so long), and gave us the wrong receipt at the end. Mind you, there were only 2 other tables in our section. Yikes. I'm guessing this place was a gem and a hot spot a while ago, but since then, people moved on. In the meantime, I have a feeling they're struggling because of how much they nickel and dime their few existing patrons. It's a sinking ship and I hope management rights it... But for now, I'm sure you can do better for your money.

The 'keep it open' policy is something I appreciate but would also appreciate an itemized receipt when you close out. Here's why to keep your eye out when drinking at this establishment. 1- when you close out, it's helpful to verify what you consumed to ensure you're corrected charged. My receipt was the merchant copy and the customer copy. Itemized? Really had to ask for it. 2- the merchant copy - it asked for a tip and the total amount. When we closed out our beer and well drink, it was ~$28. Weird, right? So my thought was that they clearly charged something incorrect. 3- when there's something automatically charged, it had better be communicated to me upfront. The gratuity was automatically added and IT WAS 20%! No sign, no way to notify me that it was already added. It didn't even say so on the merchant or customer copy. On top of that, the copy asked for AN ADDITIONAL TIP. For something like that, I had better get great service. 4- The service here is spotty at best. There's usually one bartender for the often busy bar. Not a problem, usually. But with that high of a price, better serve your customers well and have a fully stocked bar. 5 - the options were lacking. Two things you'd think would be stocked but weren't - espresso (come on, even Kahlua) and apple liqueur for an espresso martini and appletini were too much to ask for, I guess. Overall, a disappointment. Good thing they have the vibes nearly right. But awful business practices.

His drinks were amazing , his vibes and the way he welcomed each person , probably the sweetest vibe I've caught while I was out here. We were able to connect with other people at the bar and it was a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is so cool as well! Will definetly be back for my next visit !

Throughout the evening, her demeanor didn't improve and felt out of step with the otherwise welcoming environment. Having spent over 25 years in the industry and as a restaurant owner, I know how important frontline staff are to the guest experience, and this simply didn't reflect the level this place is capable of. That said, this feels like the exception--not the norm. I've had pleasant experiences here before and will return, hopeful that this was just an off moment.
