This restaurant space has existed for years and had a number of incarnations including The Malletsheugh Inn and Stones. None have lasted. This latest incarnation sees it open as a Indian Platform Southside.
I went in a couple of months ago and was told the cash machine wasn't working. Being cashless I drove down the road. Today I went in again and dined - the card machine was working.
At first the place seemed dead then we realised that they are only using the rear eastern side of the building. So when we finally got into the restaurant area it had a few people in it.
They have a buffet option, but given it wasn't very busy the buffet wasn't on and instead we were offered a la carte or a table buffet. We plumped for table buffet.
For two, the table buffet included:
2 popadoms with the usual sauces
A platter consisting of 8 veg pakora, 4 mushroom pakora, 8 chicken pakora, 4 chicken wings, 4 chicken chaat
4 curries from the menu (chicken or lamb), your choice (and not little portions either)
1 large naan
1 bowl of rice
It was an enormous amount of food for two people. Although I have a friend who would dispute that. but he's practically a professional eater.
Everything we had tasted as it should and the staff really looked after us.Including one member of staff providing me with an old family trick for inhibiting my cough.
This isn't the greatest indian food you'll ever eat, but it is tasty and there is a lot of it. Add to that ,the staff really look after you and you'll quickly realise this place really deserves to be far busier than it is. read more
