The two curries I tried at Indian Fast Food were the worst I'd had in my life. Certainly the most disappointing Indian restaurant I've ever been to.
My dhansak completely lacked flavor and used chicken that had obviously been frozen and microwaved before being added to the sauce, cheap canned lentils and powdered spices instead of fresh spices. The waiter confirmed this to me when I asked. There was no sourness or spice, just a bit of sweetness and a dull chilli flavor that came from the powdered spices, so the dish was completely wrong. Honestly, it was just utterly bland without any vegetables or consideration to texture, just some flavorless chicken, which I ate out of respect for the poor thing. No hint of bitterness. No fresh chillies. No herbs. Just a bowl of brown with some chicken in it. I could tell the chicken was poor quality due to the cross-hatched pattern in the flesh, meaning it had been in a freezer for a long time and cooked very defrosted/cooked very quickly.
My brother's curry was even worse. Sold as a 'very very hot dish', again, it was just powdered spice that clearly hadn't been fried, but just added to the sauce because it had a powdery texture in the mouth. There was some very generic decimated coconut added like my dhansak and again, apart from some chicken, there was nothing but the sauce. Both dishes clearly hadn't been tasted by the cook either, and honestly, there was no excuse given we were the only customers at the time. Even the nann breads were limp,, soggy sorry things.
The waiter was friendly enough but didn't seem to believe us when we told him we were disappointed and basically smiled and told us we did enjoy the meal.
Honestly, I don't understand the positive review left for this place or even the mediocre ones. It was genuinely the most bland, uninspiring and ill-conceived Indian food I've ever had, cooked by a microwave technician who clearly doesn't taste the food s/he makes. Perhaps some of their other dishes do 'taste' good as pointed out in the positive review, but I'm telling you now, the ingredients (or lack of) and effort that went into what we had was the poorest I've ever had.
