A good solid reasonable Thai restaurant, nothing special, but solid. Remember they do not take credit/debit cards cash only.

Bit of a con to call a starter menu tapas! And I was expecting to order something I'd never heard of, but it was tempura prawns, dim sum, pork kebabs, chicken satay and other standard starters! When I went to Thailand recently, there was something always on the menu called 'morning glory'...I love ordering things I've got no idea about (even if it does turn out to be a plate of veg!!) but there was nothing exciting about the menu. Don't get me wrong, the food was delicious so maybe my expectations were just all wrong but I was thinking it would be out of the ordinary. The decor is lovely, a real feeling of Thailand and there's a lovely hidden garden out the back. Service was great, the people were really friendly and helped with how spicy things might be. Our waitress told us the chef's are Thai (which helps to make the food delicious) but when they say spicy they mean spicy! It was a lovely evening and setting but not the new fave eatery I was expecting!

They had 2 pages of typical Thai/Asian starters: chicken skewers, spring rolls, prawn toasts and a few other dishes that you could order as a small plate, but nothing different. I was really expecting something I hadn't seen before. Maybe I was thinking too leftfield, but I was very unenthused by the menu. When the food arrived it was OK. We shared some pork dim sum which came in crazy amounts of chilli. That was OK for me but not for my girlfriend. The mains were fine, but for around £9 I'd expect more. It tasted like something I could whip up myself from buying ingredient from one if various Asian supermarkets. I actually think I've cooked better! Decor wise it was very nice. They have done an incredible job from what it was when it was Zizi's and I bet that on the right summers day it would be lovely to sit in the garden. This would be a good place to go for a alternative family meal as the place does have some wow factor. But if you want to go for a really good Thai meal, there's definitely better places to go in Bristol!

Although I like the fact that many people havent discovered this place. It's great to know there are still places, even in a popular city like Bristol, that can happily churn out a successful business without many of the general public being aware of it's existance. I have only had the one takeaway from here and I'm more of a curry man, but I would definitely come back here. My satay chicken could have been a bit saucier (with more sauce, not wearing high heels and doing a burlesque dance), but my crispy aromatic duck pancakes were perfect; I was served a good size (large) portion and the hoisin sauce was really thick and full of flavour. The staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming, and I would go back just to be treated like that. I have to be honest about the restaurant itself, it is very 'modern' with wooden benches, white walls, lime green and yellow lights and some people might find this quite a cold environment to spend an evening in, possibly better for lunchtime. But I am told there is a slightly more intimate, dimly lit, 'date' section in the back; just in case they don't look like their photo.

Despite the delicious cuisine Thailand and other South East Asian countries have to offer, they seem to be somewhat underrepresented on Bristol's restaurant scene. I have no doubt that Thai Classic passes under the radar of many,i which is a mistake indeed. The restaurant has a tranquil atmosphere unusual for the road on which it is situated, I can't exactly imagine it being overrun by stag and hen dos at the weekend. All the staff are Thai and it is clearly authentic down to the very last detail. The food is perhaps not the greatest I've ever tried, but the recipes were tasty and well-executed. Thai Classic certainly isn't new or modern, if anything it reminds me of restaurants how they used to be when I was a little kid being shepherded round oriental eateries by my parents. What it is, however, is good quality, tasty food at very respectable prices with excellent service.

Inside is a very cosy little Asian eatery, specialising in Malaysian and Thai cuisine. There is an extensive menu for both, and also, set meals for each nationality of cuisine. I was particularly impressed by Thai set meal B, especially the garlicky pork dish. (to be honest I'm quite impressed by anything garlicky). Anyhow, I also found the service to be extremely smooth and friendly, making for an overall enjoyable eating experience.
