Despite the delicious cuisine Thailand and other South East Asian countries have to offer, they seem to be somewhat underrepresented on Bristol's restaurant scene. I have no doubt that Thai Classic passes under the radar of many,i which is a mistake indeed. The restaurant has a tranquil atmosphere unusual for the road on which it is situated, I can't exactly imagine it being overrun by stag and hen dos at the weekend. All the staff are Thai and it is clearly authentic down to the very last detail. The food is perhaps not the greatest I've ever tried, but the recipes were tasty and well-executed. Thai Classic certainly isn't new or modern, if anything it reminds me of restaurants how they used to be when I was a little kid being shepherded round oriental eateries by my parents. What it is, however, is good quality, tasty food at very respectable prices with excellent service.

Inside is a very cosy little Asian eatery, specialising in Malaysian and Thai cuisine. There is an extensive menu for both, and also, set meals for each nationality of cuisine. I was particularly impressed by Thai set meal B, especially the garlicky pork dish. (to be honest I'm quite impressed by anything garlicky). Anyhow, I also found the service to be extremely smooth and friendly, making for an overall enjoyable eating experience.

This used to be my local Chinese takeaway. Now me and my husband have this dilemma. When one of us…read moresuggests a takeaway as a treat we instantly both say different things, I like Indian food and my hubby loves Chinese food. But default, because I don't dislike Chinese food, we would inevitably settle on Chinese and we'd always head to Dragon Fountain as it was only a few feet away. If I really fancied a curry, no worries as they do a wicked Thai Red Curry. I don't know about you but we, like most people, tend to have our favourites. It's sweet and sour chicken balls for him and sweet and sour prawn balls for me. Easy. Dragon Fountain's offerings are among the nicest I've tasted. No watery vinegary sweet and sour sauce here, just lusciously thick, perfectly flavoured tubs of sauce. And the balls aren't too greasy (oo er missus!)

We parked our car outside and pipped in and were instantly served. So, thought, of giving it an another try as that time we were so hungry, couldn't really infer that whether the food was that good or it was just our digestive glands melting everything down, giving it a taste of deliciousness. We went last week. Warm welcome. What surprised us, was the price. It didn't go up from the last time. And the cost of adding an extra meat or fish topping to any dish is a maximum of £1. Affordable! The portions are pretty much enough to make a hungry stomach full. Mark my words, I love Chinese cuisine. And, I was dead hungry at that time. The deals are also good, like if the bill crosses £10, a complimentary bag of freshly made prawn crackers are served. The quality of the food is great, and it's not greasy, like most of the Chinese eateries in town. There is a sit in option available as well, although for a few number of people. The sweet and sour sauce is perfect, and the king prawns in the rice and the noodles, were huge jumbo king prawns, not like shrimps which most of the places serve in the said King Prawn dishes. Well, wait, there are more. They don't use MSG or any artificial additives or preservatives. Healthy!!! The food was absolutely fine, simple and tasted really nice. Definitely recommended, for food for value.

There was also more veg and sauce than meat. I called to complain and they basically said it's how it's supposed to be and they have been making it that way for years so there was nothing wrong it. I have had crispy beef from many Chinese takeaways and know that it is not supposed to be like that. It's one thing to serve food of that poor quality but it's another thing to not accept or acknowledge the issue and refuse to do anything about it. First and last time using this takeaway if this is how they run their business. The chef was actually shouting in the background in Chinese so I couldn't understand what he was saying but obviously can't take any negative feedback

The Royal Kitchen thus, is perhaps an amalgamation of the lot. It certainly ticks all the necessary boxes. With a huge menu of nearly as many dishes as pubs called The Red Lion, some selections stand out a league above the rest - the 'crispy shredded beef with salt, chilli and garlic' for instance, or the 'beef curry pastries'. There's wide choice across the board from beef, through pork, chicken and fish to vegetarian. There's a wide selection of chilled drinks and a good array of magazines and books whilst you wait. There's a home delivery service if you spend a tenner and uh, you can take your food away. Thus, an all round box-ticker.
