This restaurant doesn't do any justice to true Indian flavors. On a daily basis, they have the same boring, bland items, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. In fact, their veg entrees are just some steamed veggies, partly stir fried but again without any flavor. The tandoori chicken (supposed to come from a clay oven) is in fact some run of the mill steamed chicken with no flavor. The dessert options usually made from a milk/cottage cheese base are weird to taste. An American may not be able to make out these things but to an Indian palate, it is quite obvious that they are stale. read more

I wish so bad that I had trusted some of the reviews on here. This place is so bad. Let's start with the buffet. I arrived at 12:20pm which is peak lunch time. Every tray was low as if I had arrived late to the party. Anything with sauce all tastes the same, like a melted cheese or something. Definitely doesn't taste Indian. And the Naan bread is shocking! Just looks like pita bread from Kroger that's cut into small triangles. No garlic, no oil or butter. The only thing remotely appetizing were the small samosas. I had a solid dining experience here. This may be one of the best Indian restaurants within the Midtown/Downtown area of Memphis. The food was delicious, service was attentive, and everything was clean. The host was very kind and even gave us complimentary ice cream at the end of our meal which was incredibly creamy and delicious. My friends and I shared a chicken tikka masala, goat karahai, and saag lamb, family style between the 4 of us. We also ordered 2 garlic nan, 2 plain, and 1 chili naan, and also got plain biryani rice on the side. Tikka masala is a classic dish but it was executed exceptionally well here. Despite the good food, there were a few minor things that kept the experience from receiving a higher overall rating. I think the prices were also a little steep for the small portion sizes. For instance, the goat was the best prepared and flavorful, but it also only came with 3 pieces of bone-in meat. The chili naan was the most unique naan option and also most expensive compared to the others but it was also very plain tasting despite the name of it. My family, including my husband and I and four little kids, stopped by the India palace after a long day at the zoo. We had a great time here, the service was wonderful, very family friendly. They even gave us a few complimentary items when they saw our children enjoying some of the dishes particularly well. We loved the large wall murals and the fancy table settings. I have been coming here since 2011. I love the food and the staff are superb. I came in today to get my usual sag shrimp hot, and there weren't a lot of customers; I hope that was because it just opened for its second shift. We love this restaurant! Our dinner restaurant of many years. When in Memphis we always plan for at least a dinner here. The ambience is pleasant - it's clean, doesn't appear dated. You get a whiff of the wonderful spices they use as you approach the building. Our wait for a table has never been more than a few seconds. The wait staff is clean and neat. Always ready to answer questions about the extensive menu. Consistently excellent food. Everything we've had has been excellent. I don't think I could pick out a favorite. I usually have a lamb or seafood with medium spice. The husband often has something vegetarian or chicken with mild spice. We recommend the samosas for an appetizer which comes with 2 sauces. He prefers onion kulcha as his bread, I like the poori. For dessert the mango ice cream can't be beat - so creamy. The rice pudding is also excellent. Perfect ending to a spicy dinner. The service is top notch, attentive but not overwhelming. Drinks are refilled as needed. Portions are adequate, I usually need a "to go" box. I was really torn between giving this place 3 or 4 stars. The Lamb Biryani was really subpar. I put some sauce on it and it was a little better, but on its own, it had the taste of old beef and rice. Quite a large establishment with good authentic Indian food. They offer traditional North Indian cuisine with quick service. The decor is fairly eclectic - big murals of elephants and tigers. The place seems quite popular as even on a weekday night, patrons were streaming in. They also do carry out and uber eats for delivery. Ordered vegetarian platter which comes with two entrees (you get to pick), black lentils, naan bread (which can be replaced with other bread), yogurt side dish, basmati rice, dessert, and hot tea (chai). Additionally, we ordered samosas as starters because we did not know how long the main course would take to prepare. Well, the platter and starters were served lightening quick - perhaps several entrees were from their lunch Buffett spread. In any case, the entrees tasted good and the bread was cooked really well. Eggplant as one of the entree was perhaps not a great choice. The eggplant did not have the expected smoked flavor and instead appeared steam cooked. Paneer with peas (mattur paneer) on the other hand was really done well. The black and yellow lentils were also prepared well. Overall, a nice dinning experience with good service. I understand it is Covid and it is harder than ever. But the restaurant is totally worn out, the dining room was is disarray and the middle section seemed to serve as an office. The buffet was served to you ( a wonderful Covid precaution) but it wasn't hot, there was no choice in what was served and it was just terrible. The food ranks as one of the worst meals I have ever had. Maybe it would be better to offer daily lunch specials or present the " buffet"options on a menu and allow seated diners to choose two from the list. I love the raita, the tamarind sauce and the naan. Our naan arrived after we had eaten our buffet items ( butter chicken, Kroger meatballs in a butter chicken sauce, veg all and frozen cauliflower in butter chicken sauce and sag paneer) and we weren't offered any sauces. Incredible service and incredible food! Our Friday dinner was excellent on all accounts. We were treated to complimentary samosas before our entrees of aloo gobi, chicken chili, and chicken curry. Flavorful with exactly the right amount of spice. The Indian tea was splendid and not sweet with complimentary refills/top-offs. Whenever my boyfriend and I visit Memphis, we make sure to go to India Palace for a meal. Not only does it have great vegetarian options, but the food is tasty and the service is wonderful. It's a large restaurant with its own parking lot. There's ample seating and it is good for large groups. There's a buffet, but we order off the menu. I've had the tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, and dhal. The naan, papadum, and samosas are great here, too. My favorite thing on the menu is Peshwari naan (it's the best I've had).
