This is in their new location near Bean Traders. I showed up on a Wednesday at 11:45am and the place was empty (so I got a bit nervous that I'd made a mistake choosing this restaurant). A nice gentleman showed my friend and I to a seat, and we each ordered the lunch special (vegetarian for me, meat for him). The food came out rather quickly and surprised us not only by how good it was, but also by how much food was included! My friend was full after eating about half of his lunch, and I was barely able to finish mine-- but I loved every bite. Each part of the meal was perfectly seasoned, not too salty, not too fatty, not too spicy. Just a really, really good meal. The lunch special included a samosa, naan bread, some veggie fritters, rice, and three other items (dal, chickpeas, and some green bean loveliness). With tax, it came out to exactly $14. This is the only Indian place I eat in the area - yummy Punjabi food. India Gate used to be off of 54, in a sketchy strip mall but has moved to the same shopping center as Sprouts. We decided to get butter chicken, Chana masala and vegetable samosas. Most of the entrees came with rice but we also ordered the plain naan. Everything had such a wonderful flavor - a wide variety of spice, too. The ambiance of the place isn't great but for a quick bite, it's not bad. Our waitress was attentive and refilled our drinks quickly, as well as bringing our food out in about 10 -15 minutes. This establishment was amazing, i brought my daughter and girlfriend even tho they were both skeptical about trying Indian food since they had never really had it before. Flavor and price! My wife and I recently tried an Indian restaurant in Chapel Hill and wanted to come back to our neighborhood restaurant, India Gate because this restaurant has great flavor and the price is right. It's delicious, authentic, not bland and this is now one of my favorites. Price and taste matters, this place makes me feel good and like we got value. I also noticed a 99.5 cleanliness rating and it felt clean. It seems very established and I hope they experience future success. Tl;dr: Great indian food, authentic flavors, good serving sizes. We moved to the area about eight months ago now and have ordered indian food via the typical food delivery apps, however I was always disappointed. We decided to order and pick up indian food at the place just down the road from us, India gate, but was prepared to not be blown away. We were blown away. Their menu has something for everybody. We ordered the chicken korma, goat curry, naan, and papadum. They quoted about 20 minutes and it was ready for me exactly when I walked in at 20 minutes. Everything was still very hot and made my car smell great. First thing I dived into was the naan. It was bready and chewy which is the way I prefer my naan. Punjabi style indian food is my favorite because of how rich and butter the flavors are, without being too oily. In cuisines like this, it's good to see the oil separate from the aromatics when cooking-- that's how you know it's cooked and ready. The chicken korma was great. Very aromatic and flavorful, buttery on the tongue, rich in flavor, and thick thanks to the blended cashews. The goat stew was medium in spice (as requested) and it was the perfect amount of spice. The goat has bones in it, so just be careful when shoveling it into your face. The rice that came with the korma and curry was flavorful and spiced lightly which helped the overall flavor of the meal. The papadum was crispy and flavorful, not salty like some other restaurants. Great textural component. Overall, we have found our go-to indian restaurant in the area! read more

So I've been having a serious craving for Indian food for awhile now and last night I gave in, boy was it worth it! This place is doing take out only but it was worth the trip and with my food made fresh to order we were not disappointed. I had the butter shrimp and the goat biryani, twice actually! Well the second time I had the butter chicken, the third visit the chicken tikka masala. I love this place. The food is consistently delicious, the staff are super friendly and they have the safe dining takeout system down to a science. Although they don't offer car side, you don't have to enter the restaurant to pick up your order. You go to the door and they bring it to you, they have a box of clean pens and smiling eyes waiting to greet you. Hahah Covid humor because friendly eyes and kind words are all we got about now. I only subtracted a star because the proteins are a little light in the butter dishes. The chicken was alright but the shrimp were small and few. Also the mango lassi was very tart, wasn't for me. I've been driving 20 minutes one way to what I thought was the best Indian restaurant in the area and suddenly I found the actual best just around the corner. Definitely among the best butter/masala sauces I've ever had. Garlic naan was HUGE and, more importantly, delicious. I ordered extra rice because my favorite part of Indian food is pouring the last of the sauce over rice, and I never needed to touch the extra rice because the original portion was so large. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I have been craving Indian food and finally decided to indulge. I decided to give India Gate a shot since they opened at 4:30 Vs most Indian restaurants in the area opening at 5. Big mistake. I ordered vegetable samosas with chutney, butter chicken made spicy & an order of garlic naan. The naan was the only thing worth the time & money. The butter chicken was literally colder than room temperature & not spicy at all. The spice level could have been overlooked, as spice is subjective but the temperature of the butter chicken would not pass a health inspection. Also the portion of the chicken was laughable; more like a bowl of sauce with hints of chicken. Also the "chutney", disgusting and not anything like any other chutney I've received from other Indian restaurants. The flavor profile of the butter chicken was comparable to what you can buy in a glass jar from food lion. I called to restaurant to see if they could possibly remake my food or offer a refund but the best they could offer was if I chose to order again I could get 10% off. No thanks, I will not be returning. The guy who listened to my concerns was very nice & friendly so that is a plus. read more

Just had the most below avergae Indian food ever.. we should have gotten the hint when no one was at the restaurant on a Saturday at noon except us. The food was stale, lassi and yogurt were tangy (bad yogurt) which owner refused to change and asked us to pay extra for yogurt??!!! Butter Chicken was tangy tangy, Naan was hard as a rock, Mutton biryani was tasteless with unchewable pieces. Bad service too. Ambiance was shady too. I wish we had gone somewhere else. read more

This place is so perfect if you're craving cheap, mild, Americanized Indian food - which I often do. The sauces there are so creamy, and they give a large quantity of everything. The ambience is very relaxed and clean as well. Our server was very polite and attentive. We got complimentary appetizers with two different sauces (about equivalent to getting chips, guac, and salsa in a Mexican restaurant for free), and we ordered an Aloo Tikki as well, which was excellent. My egg biriyani came out mildly spicy and very good (although maybe that's just my soft spot for biriyani talking). My boyfriend had Chicken Tikka Masala, and while he also enjoyed the meal, he strongly suspects the sauce was store-bought rather than made from scratch. The meal, all in all, was very reasonably priced and yielded plenty of leftovers despite us eating our fill. Either way, can't complain. This review is for food only because my husband and I got take out. The food, was, awesome! We got garlic naan, maharaja biryani, and lamb vindaloo. First of all, the quantity of food was on the plenty side. We had leftovers even though we stuffed ourselves. Then the quality was superb. The garlic naan had cilantro and garlic and spices my husband just loved it. It was great on its own and even better dipped in curry. The maharaja biryani was fluffy, flavorful and satisfying. It was made with basmati rice, shrimp, tandoor chicken pieces, cashews, raisins (the sweetness balanced out the spice) and hard boiled egg slices. It's like Indian fried rice. It also came with a small cup of pickled veggie and yogurt sauce with cucumber and mint. Both can be added to the biryani to enhance the already complex flavor from the spices. Try it and love it! The lamb vindaloo was just fabulous. Tender, meaty, good sized lamb pieces simmered in this thick (from the spices), acidic (in a good way), spicy red sauce that make you sweat a little but can't stop eating more with the basmati rice it came with and the naan we had. It was obviously authentic because it was perfect crafted where the whole is more than the sum of its parts. All in all, we both loved our dinner and it left us wanting more. You know you have found a good place when immediately after eating you wanted to check out the menu to see what you want to try next time. The gulab jamun was quite good. Salad was fresh, raita was good. I keep seeing ranch dressing at Indian buffets lol! Who puts ranch on a plate with Indian food?! The papadum looked weird and several pieces were burnt. Everything was very mildly spiced, which is expected for a buffet. Fresh naan is brought out to the table, quality good, but for anyone who wants to know Nazara has the best naan in town! Staff were helpful explaining what food I could eat due to allergies.
