Today my mind was changed when I received a return call from Independent Garage Doors. They even called me before working hours, which is great for me, because I am retired and get up early. John was so professional and listened to my concern with my LiftMaster. He actually gave me guidance over the phone and sent me a video from YouTube on how to fix it myself, based on the description I gave him of my concern. I am so excited now because it only took 2 1/2 minutes to watch the video and maybe one minute to repair it. Magick? I believe in it and finding this gem of a company was a magickal and enlightening way to begin today. This company will definitely be the first one. I call when my opener finally is no longer of this earthly vessel. I would like to make a recommendation for Independent Garage Doors. What a great company and Dan was super nice and so good! Last night both of our springs broke on our door making a huge sound. Our cars were trapped and no way to open the door. My husband first made an appointment with Freedom Doors but the guy couldn't come out until Monday "maybe around noon". That worried me because i need to take my elderly father to Madigan for a morning appointment. Lakeside Doors (who installed it and serviced it before) were not open on weekends. So we called these Independent Garage Doors who said they would call between 1-3 about when they can get there. Shortly after 1 we got a call that Dan was in route to our place. We also received an email about the order with their bid for new springs, (which were were told are hard to find these days , like a lot of things since Covid.) The job wasn't easy since it was hot and the door was closed and both cars were in the garage in his way. ( Not to mention a bicycle hanging above him.) Though I did bring out a fan for him. He also tightened a loose chain and had the new springs installed and all was well within an hour. The cost of the two springs and installation was $350, exactly matching the bid. The moment you realize the importance your garage door plays in your everyday life is when it won't open! One of the tension springs snapped after over 10 years of normal use. In doing a quick search of the internet and seeing if this was a DIY project, I quickly realized it wasn't and decided to find someone to complete the repair. So, I searched Yelp and found John. All I can is everything that John said, he did. He arrived on time and replaced the springs. I put the one star because my garage door properly works. The other four you see are missing is based on customer service. This was by far the worst experience with a worker I've had at my home hands down. I purchased the WiFi system for the doors so I could open and close them from a app. With that being said he was very clear he didn't know how to set up the product he was selling me. I told him I would figure it out but was not going to pay for it until I was sure it would worked. He replied via text that I saved, ok. Well when the work was done and he gave me the paper to follow set up, I stared doing just that. He appeared to be very irritated and rude because I was making him wait. He than said I was holding him hostage because I was making him wait. He said if the product doesn't work it's not his problem it's on the manufacturer. Let me just say that again, if the product he has sold me on doesn't work it's not his problem. Let me just remind everyone that until you purchase a product it is the company your purchasing it from's problem. I told him I was fucking annoyed with how crazy he was being and how bad his customer care was. He replied I don't appreciate you cussing at me. I'm sorry but when did expressing the emotions I'm feeling to someone being extremely rude ever become a personal attack? Or cussing at them directly? I told him I was not cussing at him I was just annoyed with him not wanting to make sure everything worked properly before he left. This is basically just a heads up that he doesn't know how the WiFi product he sells work's. So if you are going to buy it make sure your ok with it potentially not working if you have him leave before it's set up, or make sure he's able to wait and doesn't have to be anywhere after your apt. In response to your response. I never said you can rip the FN thing down. I said I was not holding you hostage and if you felt that way you could take down what you installed and leave. Also I said in my text that I can add into this if you'd like I would not pay for the service until I set it up to make sure it worked. You replied ok. Holding someone hostage would be a overstatement in this case. All I was asking for was you to make sure your customers needs were met before leaving a job site. Did you not get paid? The answer is yes you did. Your lack of customer care was appalling. I had been purchasing 927$ worth of work from you, anyone in their right mind would want to make sure the product worked. Also yes, you said you didn't know how to set it up those were your exact words. I wasn't asking you to set my password up either, I simple asked you to wait for my husband to finish doing it so we could make sure it worked before you left. You also had agreed to doing that in the text I sent you before you ever came over. Again if you'd like I can upload that text here for you to see. I'm a very easy person to work with when I'm being treated right by a person I'm paying good money to. You are the fourth project I had had done at my house in the last week and the only company I had a issue with. I also purchased a WiFi thermostat from the AC company that came 3 days prior to you and they had no problem helping me and answering questions about it. Again this is all based on facts. I'm sorry to say I would not recommend you based purely on customer service alone. Like I said in the beginning the doors work fine but the way you took care of the situation customer service wise did not. Also I was at no point "In your face" thats definitely fake news. John is wonderful to work with! Courteous and timely without exception, he does excellent work, listens to the customers and makes sure you're happy before he leaves. He came out because my garage door opener was on its last legs and I'd had someone else (a very popular company that charges an arm and a leg for very little work) come out and look, but John got the job and I'm so glad I hired him. He installed a new opener, made a recommendation that wasn't the most expensive, got the company to send it even though they're transitioning to only carrying the most expensive model, and installed it without a problem. I called asking about getting a replacement spring for My garage door. I had looked up to see That I needed a left side right wind spring. The one that broke was a unit that was total length of 45". I freely admit I am not a Garage Door spring expert. Was going to get one at the local Hardware stores that listed that they carry them, They no longer do. So I called John... explained the info I had and what I was planning to do. To say he was condescending is putting it mildly. But I needed to get this done. so I got as much additional information as I could from the spring to include a rough measurement of the cross section of the spring. After having to explain what that even meant he was still less than pleasant to talk to. John provided no guidance on how I could get the info he needed. I finally gave up after the 3rd call and called "Discount Garage Door Service" I recommend calling then instead of wasting your time with Independent Garage Doors. Richard from Discount Garage Door Service was polite and after talking to him decided that having him come out and repair the spring was a much better plan. He was here within 30 mins of my call, repaired the door and made sure it worked well and correctly. read more

I called and spoke to John and explained that my garage door spring had broken two days before. I had another company scheduled who appeared to have good reviews, boasting 24/7 great customer service response. But in actuality this company overbooked and had me wait all day and pushed me out another day so I went to John at Independent Garage Doors. What a refreshing change! He was so personable and kind. Very compassionate for my situation. This was shortly after the big wind storm and my husband was on an extended business trip and I'd been without power for several days. The battery on the garage door opener went out so I had no back up and I have sciatica so I can't manually open the door without hurting my back so I was trapped with my car inside the garage. The other company didn't care but John did. He was prompt, quick and not only replaced the springs but replaced missing screws, lubricated and inspected everything. Never tried to up charge me extra.
