This installer was recommended by the flooring retailer, so we trusted that it was solid. Initially, all was good. We scheduled an estimate right away, and the pricing seemed fair. When the flooring arrived, however, and it was time to schedule the job, there were some issues. The owner, Jimmy, told me "just let me know when you'd like to schedule the install," so I did. We were tearing up carpet and replacing with LVP interlocking planks in our primary bedroom and hallway off the other bedrooms. Not a huge job. But Jimmy insisted that it would take at least a couple of days to do this job. Not exactly "In & Out". I had to take time off and had scheduled just one day to be home for this, so I asked Jimmy if there was something I could do to save them time and preparation. He told me that if I could remove the baseboards and label them for reinstallation, that would save them time and enable them to get the job done in a day. The line Item on his estimate for this work, by the way was $300 ("Remove existing base, install back"). If you've never done this, it's quite a job. You have to be careful when removing and you also have to remove or clip flush with the board all of the brads or staples they used to install them in the first place. During the process, you have to keep track of the pieces and label them. It took me 2 1/2 hours to do this. When their job was completed, Jimmy called me and I expected him to come by to inspect the work (The work was good, by the way). I asked him to send me a revised estimate, reflecting the adjustment for the work. I saved his crew, so that they could complete the job in a day as promised. Jimmy said there would be no adjustment because they don't normally charge for this work. I reminded him that he was charging me $300 for that same work on the estimate. He told me that he would not adjust the estimate, but then called me back and agreed. I told him that we had just written The check and that I didn't appreciate him, trying to screw me over in the first place, only to come back and then admit that he was wrong in trying to do so. I wasn't going to post any type of review, but after thinking about this, and hearing some stories from other seniors about getting taken advantage of by contractors, I thought this needed to be heard. read more
