The smart thing to do is to purchase extra liability insurance, so if there's an accident, you're not going to the poor house. If you happen to hit someone and they sue you, you could be out a serious chunk of change. Well Silvercar has a place on the website to sign up for this, but the last two times I've tried to use their service, the day before I go to pick up the car I get a message that they are in the middle of a Policy transition, and the insurance isn't available. Well now, if I rent the car, it's like I'm driving without insurance, so I have to cancel, but wait, it's only the day before, and all the ZipCars are rented, and well, time to cancel the trip. Thanks Silvercar, for ruining my weekend. If you NEED a car for something, and you don't want to go broke in the case of an accident, go somewhere else. Their cars are damn nice, though, so it's a shame.

I did not take that because of parking and too big for my needs. I was told to come back so I went to have a quick breakfast. Long story short the car never came back and the staff worked hard to get me a vehicle. After a great deal of calling to customers with cars and other Enterprises one was found. They ordered a car service to the other location and I was on my way. ***To corporate allowing customers to extend there rental with other renters behind that reservation is irresponsible? If your staff was unable to get me a car what would have been the recourse? Maybe each location needs other stand by cars other then a large out of date mini van. Also the car I got at the other location was dirty on the inside like it hadn't been clean thoroughly. The staff at the Emprie blvd location is the only reason I am giving a 4star for the staff!

Reserved a vehicle which of course was not available in person. Alright, expected. So I was offered something else which turned out better. The fee came up to $310 on line, in person you gotta pay a deposit of $300. Alright not expected but I'm cool I'm calm. Then I was told the debit card thing was BS and the credit card thing gotta have a onetime transaction. Waste of time and energy. Nothing like that was discussed. Definitely should add these things to the fine print. Anybody know a good car rental place for the future ?

They try to scam you a little here and a little there, so it doesn't seem like a lot, but it adds up. And it's sad how they leave their staff out to dry. Our issues aren't with the staff. It's with the people in power that run the company. Having said that, if you want thrifty's cheap rates, BE PREPARED. Read the fine print, know if your trip has tolls, and what's expected for return. If you know your stuff, you'll be able to take full advantage of the cheap rates without incurring any of the fees. I gave this location 3 stars because the staff was actually courteous despite all the hate in the reviews. Talk to them like normal human-beings and I guarantee they'll help you not get scammed.

Got the car about 6pm and was told to return at the Brooklyn, NY location at 5:50pm. The employees were chill but the process took forever. This wasn't the bad part. I drive from Philly to Brooklyn the next day, drop my stuff off at the hotel and go to drop the car off about 5:50pm and this guy working in the garage tells me they're closed. Sign on the door (attached) says they closed at 12pm, they're closed Sunday and open on Monday. I drive back and call customer service. On hold for 1.5 hours, they put me on hold so they can call the location, 30 minutes later, I get hung up on. I call again, on hold for 1.5 hours, person answers, I tell them the situation, get hung up on again. I get charged $100 for having the car still, I call back the next day. On hold 1-2 hours, no answer but get hung up on. I get charged another $200 before they even open Monday morning and return the car, they take the keys, no prob. Then get a bill for $737. Call customer service they tell me I need to talk to another department, they say they're going to get me straight to someone, I get put on hold, then the phone hangs up. Still trying to stay calm. I talk to someone this morning they tell me a manager is going to call me by 2:30pm. I call them back at 3:30pm and she gets me to a manager, he tells me because I had the car I'm responsible for the extra days but he refunded me all the extra charges. I ended up paying $521 for using a car for 2 days, and even though they're mistake made me hang on to their POS car, I paid for it. I've rented many cars before, and this is by far, hands down, the worst car rental experience I have ever had and will tell everyone I ever meet about it.

I had found a deal off of Living Social - $25 for a $50 value on the weekday rental of a Nissan Versa. I called the company and made a reservation for July 11th, 2013. Fast forward to the actual day, I had slight difficulty finding this place. There were no obvious signs stating U-Rent Auto (nothing similar to the big car rental companies like Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, etc.); the only way I found the place was by looking at the address. Upon first impression, I was a bit weary - the place reminded me of a small junk yard. Small parking lot, lots of U-Haul trucks parked in the front, and a handful of cars. The "office" was actually just a desk inside a trailer, but the lady at the front desk (Andrea?) didn't have a problem finding my reservation. I thought everything would go smoothly, but I ran into a speed bump regarding the price I would have to pay. She quoted me $40-something for the amount I would owe and said the Versa usually cost $79.99 at full price. I countered and stated that on online, the reservation price was $49.99, which meant that I only had to pay taxes. Andrea called her manager and I was told, "The best we can do is offer the vehicle to you at $59.99." Are you kidding me? What company charges you a higher price than what is found online, especially when it's their fault they haven't changed the description? Anyway, I was in a hurry and paid the extra $10. We went outside to check the vehicle for damages, got the receipt, and I was happily on my way. The car itself was fine - worked well, responsive, non-smoking. I drive a Toyota Corolla back at home and the Versa worked pretty similarly. Don't expect the car to be clean and vacuumed, though. There were food scraps left on the food, water stains still in the cup holder, but it wasn't too bad. Just don't go in thinking you'll be getting a first-class car. I returned the vehicle that same evening - left the keys with the night worker and was promised a receipt to my email the next day. Fast forward to the end of the month, I received my credit card statement in the mail (yes, I still haven't signed up for online banking). Not only did I NOT get a $500 credit for the deposit, but U Rent Auto charged me ANOTHER $500! I spent an entire week trying to get my $1,000 credit and the entire week I was constantly hounding them. Lots of false promises (e.g. "Manager will refund you this afternoon"), evading, avoiding phone calls, etc. I eventually got fed up and filed a complaint with my credit card company. To this day, it still hasn't been resolved. So learn from my experience and stick with a more reputable company who doesn't cause you so much hassle and grief.
