I came into this dealership to test a drive a Subaru but not buy one, because I live in New York and was planning to buy my car when I got back in May. Instead of getting right to the test drive, the salesman sat me down and went through some paperwork, which I assumed was standard, since this is my first time buying a new car. The dealership didn't have the exact car I wanted, which I knew from looking at their inventory online, but the salesman found it at a neighboring dealership and said that they could get it for me. As they hammered out those details, I took a base model Subaru Crosstrek for a test drive despite specifying my desire for a premium trim.
When I got back, everything seemed to be set, and the salesman was so nice and accommodating when it came to negotiating the price and getting some freebies thrown in, that I decided to go ahead and buy from him instead of waiting the few weeks to buy in New York. From my understanding, all I had to do was wait for the car to get to the dealership then I'd be driving down the street with my new set of wheels. Boy, was I wrong. Unbeknownst to me, because again, this is my first time buying a new car, they have to physically register the car in New York and jump through all of these hoops before I can even get my butt in the seat.
As soon as I heard about how much that would delay me getting the car, I asked if I could get my downpayment back so that I could just buy it in New York. The salesman insisted that he could rush everything and get it all done way before I leave Rhode Island, which I told him was on the 30th. I wasn't too sure, but I wanted to believe him, so I didn't push the issue. Flash forward to the 29th - I have finally received the car, and the salesman tells me not to write a review or rate my experience unless it's 10 stars. Not only did it taking longer than promised, they lost out on the car that I had signed for - a Horizon Pearl Blue Subaru Crosstrek Premium with the Moonroof 2 Package - forcing me to select a different color, and they forgot that I had agreed to the price contingent upon also receiving weather tech mats. I had to return to the dealership days after getting the car when I would have already been back in New York had my renovations not been pushed back a week. To top it off, communication left a lot to be desired. I would ask for updates and either get very vague responses or nothing at all.
Truthfully, if I had known from jump that it would be this big of a hassle and that it would take this long, I definitely would not have purchased from this dealership despite their enticing Lifetime Warranty. I feel tricked into proceeding with this sale through smooth talk and false promises. I wasn't adequately prepared by the salesman, and it feels as though I was intentionally misled for a commission. After submitting an honest survey in which I expressed my displeasure with the process but my appreciation of the salesman's positive attitude and helpfulness, the same salesman reached out to me via text in what felt like an abrasive manner to say that if I wasn't going to give him anything but a stellar review, I shouldn't have given a review at all - message attached. The message upset me so much that I blocked his number. Sadly, it was a two star experience. read more
