I've always heard about Imperial Pizza from locals telling me that it's a great spot for consistent, cheap and solid pizza. The pics posted by fellow yelpers showing a generous amount of sauce and a semolina sand paper/sandy bottom like crust sold me on trying them out. I was lucky enough to find a tight spot to back into in front of a tavern in the same strip mall. I ordered ahead and the guy said 10 minutes. I arrived a few minutes before that and my pizza was coming out of the oven. The inside of the building definitely has a dated/throwback look, but who cares? The guy manning the oven was nice and wrapped me up some crushed red pepper to go. I was out the door at $7.95 cash for a large plain pizza. It took me about ten minutes to dive into it, but I found the sauce, although plentiful to be a bit bland. The cheese was fine and the crust was the best part, crispy and fresh. The co-worker I shared it with was reminiscing about his younger days eating their pies all the time and said it was exactly as he remembered it. The crushed red pepper helped cure the blandness of the sauce and we were stuffed having to share a plain pizza. If I was having a party for the kids, or friends over for a game Imperial would be my go to spot for pizza. I've never had other pizza in my life that has a Sandy bottom. I will forever associate them with that style of pizza. UPDATE - I went to Imperial to speak to someone in person. I spoke to Mike who was delightful and reimbursed me for the pizza and for the rude behavior of "Chuck". ORIGINAL POST - We ordered a large pizza with onions, green peppers, mushrooms and pepperoni. The order was to be delivered to JT Brewskis. We paid and gave a tip. The pizza had NO cheese on it! We called to ask for another pizza with cheese on it. The manger CHUCK (I don't believe that's his name) Came with a new pie to be replaced with the pie that had no cheese. He opened the new pizza and said see it's the same and that the cheese was on the bottom. He quickly closed the new pizza and left with the new pizza in hand. We were left with a no cheese added cold pizza. I called to ask for my money back and he said that we don't give money back because this is the way we make pizza. tl;dr the 80s decor is almost as anachronistic as the prices at this grab-and-go Delco pizza joint Locally recognized for their bargain prices, late hours, and "sandy" crust pies, Imperial Pizza was described by my girlfriend as Delco's go-to option. According to her, "no one is Delco is going to say it's the best pizza, but everyone likes it." And this past week, I had the opportunity to try it myself. A block from the Secane Regional Rail line, Imperial's dilapidated cubic shack features a faux-brick wall and worn awning. There is plenty of parking out back. Walk through the narrow corridor of linoleum walls to reach the gritty kitchen and takeout counter. Multiple industrial pizza ovens flank the back, and the walls are off-white with age. We called in our order -- a half-pepperoni/half-sausage pizza and a Cheese Steak -- and the staff member promised that it would be ready in 10 minutes. We park, paid (cash only!), and were out the door in no more than two minutes; the stoplight at the station takes more time. To the pizza itself: the thin, crisp, and surprisingly sturdy crust gave off borderline Chuck-E-Cheese vibes, and the trademark "sandy" bottom tasted overwhelmingly like cornmeal. While I appreciated the tangy sauce and moderate amount of toppings, plenty of space toward the edges of the were left bare. Overall, Dave Portnoy summed it up pretty well with, "It's not that bad." The cheesesteak was similarly average. The surprisingly firm roll held up well to the flavorfully greasy meat and melty cheese, although there was an overwhelming bread-to-filling ratio. At Imperial, pizza is a rip-roaring deal at $8, unquestionably a better quality pie than similarly priced chain pizza (Little Caesar's shoe-like crust and dubiously real ingredients still make my stomach turn). Prices for the cheesesteak are more down-to-earth at $6. If Imperial consistently churns out quick, standard orders as I had, then I definitely understand the buzz -- even if I don't ever see myself as a regular. read more

Quite the spot. You can smell the history in this spot which is literally walking distance from where I live. They only sell Pies, Cheese for $10 and toppings for $13+. The young man behind the counter tossing one pie at a time in the high oven was Stellar, great customer service. Love the taste of the sauce, on the sweeter notes. The cheese is alright. Make sure to ask for the cheese to get spread tot be crust as it's usually not. I'm originally from NYC and this reminded me a bit like it but don't got the NYC tap water lol. This is the go to pizza spot, especially for late nights after everywhere else is closed. It's easily the most affordable pizza if you need a bunch of pies for a party. Their pepperoni sausage is unmatched, the sausage is what sets its apart, its sausage crumbles vs the standard sausage slices. If it's your first time trying the pizza, the bottom of the crust is different from any other pizza, it's made with cornmeal covering the bottom which gives it a "sandy" quality but you can ask them to hold the beach, but I recommend it with the beach. Simple menu with pizza, cheesesteaks, and grinders, it's a small, unassuming spot, no seating to eat in but they deliver and pick up is extremely quick, just leave 5-10 mins after ordering depending on how far away you are. Tried Imperial Pizza after hearing about it so many times. I'm not sure if they have an actual inside or not, but if you are just picking up, you can go right up to the window. Now, I have heard this is is basically just cheap, "drunk pizza". But honestly, I thought it was damn good pizza. Has changed the pizza, for the worst. Have had pizza from there many times, but today it was horrible. I ordered WELL DONE double pepperoni. The pizza was smalled (but they only make one size) and the crust was SOOOO thin, the bottom of the box was saturated with all the OIL from the cheese (yes, it lots of oil) and and pepperoni. I grew up in Briarcliffe and every Friday we would get two cheese pizza from imperial and when I got married we lived in Aldan we always continued to get imperial pizza every Friday ! My granddaughter was celebrating her 1st birthday and I told my daughter we would get the pizza for the party and since she lives in prospect park there was no other option but to get it from imperial! And no one was disappointed it has been there for a long time always consistent. They never change the recipe It always taste the same. And let me tell you about the people that work there are the nicest people you'll ever want to meet. I feel sorry for them working in this extreme heat with only a fan. This is a no-frills pizzeria with fabulous pies and amazing service. You call in your order and are told it will be ready for you in 10 minutes when you come to pick it up. And that was true. I ordered my favorite pie-- large cheese pizza with extra cheese, sausage, and mushrooms. It was twice as good as other places in this area and cost half as much! The thin crispy crust with a sandy bottom (sprinkle of cornmeal) was wonderful. The toppings were generously applied. And the kind man behind the counter walked the pie to my car, because I walk with a cane for balance. I want to support people like this. I've always been happy that they have stuck around so long. If you've lived in this area of Delco for the majority of your life like I have, then you know their pizza well. Perhaps you call it the "sand pizza" due to the cornmeal dusting. It's good to have old reliable standards. This all being said, if you were to compare Imperial Pizza to some of the better pizzas in the area, it would lose. This was never gourmet pizza. Maybe it's not meant to be, nor is it ever meant to be. But you can always count on Imperial to do two things right. 1) They'll get you a decent large pie with one topping under 8 bucks. That's just not happening enough around these parts anymore. 2) If they say your pizza will be ready in 10 minutes, it's generally ready in 10 minutes. I've always respected their reliability. And sure, their pizza has always tasted pretty good to me. I only get it once or twice a year myself. Last pizza I got from there recently certainly hit the spot. I do think there's better pizza in Delco. Just a personal taste. But I'll never say no to an Imperial pie. read more

When you order a large cheese pizza for 6.95 and take a bite, it taste as good, if not, better than mainstream pizza stores that charge 18$. Imperials is a 1.50 more than little ceasers.
