Impressively large store, with an absolutely massive selection of miniature paints and supplies. There is an entire wall dedicated to Warhammer, and they have a nice selection of other GW boxed games as well. They have board games, Warhammer, war games, tabletop RPGs, etc. I was looking for eight specific Citadel paints, and they had every one I needed. There is a large room full of tables and chairs dedicated to gaming, which is awesome. The gentleman behind the counter was friendly and helpful, and answered every question I had. I ended up spending about $100 on paints: about what I expected. I will for sure be returning here for other Warhammer stuff. read more

I've had unfortunte visits at this particular game shop... first and foremost, there is an odor in this shop that remains consistent and unpleasant. Secondly, I've walked thru the store while, what I'd presume is the owner, with another coworker, loudly swearing and grumbling complaints about not making enough money at the store. The same gentleman at the front (older, scraggly facial hair, round glasses) I've overheard say unsavory things to other employees/customers on many occasions. I wanted to like this store. While passing through Peoria, we stopped in after hearing good things. Happy to say that we weren't disappointed during our time there. They have a ton of product that appears to be suited to nearly any gaming interest or aspect of the hobby. It's hard to think that you wouldn't be able to find something while there. Folks running the store were friendly and left us to our own devices after the initial greeting, but were quick to answer any questions that we had. Imperial Outpost had what we needed this time. Last time, we came for card protectors, but they were sold out of our size. This time, we came to find a D&D Starter Box. The sales clerk was awesome. It was not where it should be, but he checked and saw that it was in stock. He looked around the shelves and found it. I like their gaming room. Tuesdays are RPG or Role Playing Game nights. You can also book a private area to play or join in an existing group. I was tempted to pick up another pretty dice set, but how many sets does one person need. I will save up for another D&D module. When we checked out, our lovely clerk asked if we had a frequent buyer card. We said that we had come a few times but have never been asked to join the rewards program. Morgan, nobody had it and a few places hadn't heard of it. When I called Imperial Outpost Games I was cordially greeted and assured that at least one copy remained. On a whim I asked if I could bring my dog and was amused and shocked to find out that this wouldn't be a problem. An excessively long drive later (I live in Chandler, the store is in Glendale) I pulled up to shop and headed inside. I was warmly received and my book was waiting for my at the register (I hadn't requested this or even given my name so I was very pleased to see someone had thought this through). After dropping money on a fine bit of sci-fi RPG writing I wandered around the store and was pleasantly surprised to see it well EXTREMELY well stocked (All the big names and at least one whole section for indie games) and equally split between Warhammer and RPGs/boardgames. Everyone seemed friendly and the owner (Darren) obviously knows how to run his shop. He clearly wants my money and is willing to make it worth my while to give it to him, rather than buying off Amazon. This is a great store. When I wandered in after work one day, the owner invited my wife and I to come participate in their Thursday Night boardgaming and we have made it our Thursday night event. You just come in, boardgames in hand or not, and play for free with everone there. If you play something you like, it's usually right there on the shelf ready to buy. We've been playing Dominion there a lot lately, it's just a good fun time. Everyone we have ever met inside that building that we have taken time to talk to has been completely polite and friendly. We haven't come across one true nutball or rude jerk in our entire time going there and that really speaks volumes, especially when you consider the kinds of people that can wander into game stores. Sure, most gamers can be a little eccentric, but if you've never met a real nerdcore dickwad, consider yourself lucky. Their selection is great if you're into boardgames, but they are particularly specialized in wargames like Warhammer and Hordes. Half their store is dedicated to it. TCG selections are very limited, but if you're not into that at all then why go to a store that's always crowded with Yu-Gi-Oh thugs and Pokemon kids? Their prices are average for the kind of product they sell, no better or worse than the mall's game stores. The store is, by and large, pretty darn clean. Everyone is helpful and friendly. When they get their Air Conditioner fixed (or when the weather stops being so brutal, whichever comes first) this place will be almost perfect. Well done, Imperial Outpost. As a functional retail store it excels. They have just about everything a table top gamer can want. Community-wise, they host gamer garage sales, painting contests, tournaments, special events, concerts, and more. The owner understands inclusiveness, propriety, and takes great strides to make sure his patrons feel safe. Thank you Darren, and thank you Imperial Outpost Games. The store is really nice with lots of stuff in it to check out, big space and good selection. All of that is overshadowed by the staffing. (or to be fair, some of the staff.) I genuinely feel like I am upsetting the people there when I check out or ask about a product. I greet the staff with a hello, how are you doing? And they respond with "what do you need?" And I can tell he is barely keeping his composure as I ask about inventory which I had fully intended to purchase. Huffing and puffing or sucking your teeth is not a very welcoming reaction to me wanting to buy your products. Ill avoid this place as long unless I absolutely have to. (Update: something about my poor interaction was bugging me so i decided to swing by. They had multiple of the item I was initially told was out of stock thatsame day. At first i was pretty annoyed but then i spoke to a gentleman named Paul who was super nice and welcoming and helpful which was a nice breath of fresh air. They have a huge selection/inventory that includes games, expansions, dice, miniatures, and almost any other need you may have for a multitude of games (too many to list here). I am not impressed with customer service here. Whenever I go to this place to check out some games here there are two cashiers. (I am not going into specifics such as names or what they look like because I don't know their names, and I don't want one to talk about physical features). One is nice and I don't have a problem with. The other is very rude. Yesterday I walked in and was greeted by the nice one. While I was perusing around I needed to go to the bathroom. Their known bathroom had the door taken out to have customers wash hands. I go up to the front to ask if I would still be able to use the bathroom. The not so nice cashier was at the front. I asked. In an annoyed tone as if he has mentioned it a million times to me or as if I was slow, said that there was a bathroom right next to it. I go to the back and next to the bathroom is one other door. Locked. My first concern at this point is the establishment has done a pretty good job to show where the bathroom is to wash your hands with tape. But on the other door where the bathroom was has no sign or indication. Not even a piece of paper tanned to the door saying this is the bathroom where the toilet can be used. Because the door was locked I went back up to the front to inquire, and give the benefit of the doubt that maybe I misheard the cashier instructions. I go up there and ask to make sure if I was going to the correct place. He gave an assurance and I said that the door was locked. In possibly the most bitter condescending voice he asked if I knocked. I wish I could put into words how rude his tone of voice was. I said no (bear in mind other than this cashiers word, I have seen no indication that it is a bathroom and just a supply closet so why would I knock). This cashier was frankly lucky that I am of a calm demeanor and am not quick to be angered and become a mean customer. The experience has put a sour taste in my mouth to the store because this isn't the first time I have spoken with him which leads me to believe that he wasn't just having a bad day but isn't over all a good people person. I won't be going to imperial outpost anymore because if they can only manage to have 1/2 of their cashiers be decent then I will just be going onto amazon read more

Pretty cool I guess, prices are not anything special, but they have a good variety of board/card games (not much in the way of MTG though, sad). Tons of models. They need different display cases if barely touching them warrants a "do not touch or they'll fall". Especially if they think a toddler(who can barely lift an 8lb weight) can knock them down. read more

I have been a customer of Imperial Outpost for a few years now, and decided to finally write a review of the store. Writing this review is difficult, because the store is wonderful in some ways and lackluster in others. The biggest boon the store brings to my neighborhood is the attached room full of tables where board gamers and role-players are encouraged to schedule and hold games. This room is often full of friendly gamers of every stripe, and the store seems genuinely glad to be hosting them. The owner frequently comes out into this section of the store to ensure that everyone is having a good time. This makes me feel valued as a customer. The staff are mostly very knowledgeable of the many products on display in the main store section. They are also highly supportive of an adjacent painting hobbyist room where modelmakers and model painters gather to practice their formidable talent. This painting hobbyist room also contains a small private gaming section with a well-appointed gaming table where, for a premium fee, you can host a game outside the hubbub and cacophony sometimes associated with the main gaming area. However, there are two spots of criticism that temper my enthusiasm for the store. The first is that the staff is not always entirely friendly. It is a hit and miss experience. As an example, I recently purchased a service at the store which required a disclosure of terms. When I told the staff member attending me that I found the disclosure of terms reasonable, he told me, in effect, "It doesn't matter if you find it reasonable because this is the way it is." I found this to be an odd an unnecessary emphasis made to a customer who was already in agreement. It was a distinctly unfriendly ordering process, and I remain mystified as to why. The process is even more bitter in retrospect, as the store was unable to hold up its end of the terms. The store has recently suffered difficulties with its new 3D printing service, whereby you can design figures on Hero Forge or another modeling site and then bring the files to the store for printing. Perhaps because the product is a new one, it is experiencing some teething issues. The models look very nice when they are produced, but timely turnaround has been a problem. Their terms disclosure promises a 2 week turnaround, but they have not proven able to uphold this in recent weeks. I ordered some figures at the store, then a week later ordered additional figures from Hero Forge directly. The Hero Forge figures arrived in my mailbox perfectly printed before Imperial Outpost could complete my prior order locally. This was apparently related to supply issues involving the resin for the store's printing machines. Unlike the staff who manned the cashier, the store owner was very polite and apologetic regarding the issue. Still, with the prices comparable, I could not really claim satisfaction with the turnaround time on the store's 3d Models, and would not recommend the in-store service to any friends who were hoping for a quick print job. To my mind, the only reason to have figures printed at the store is in a gesture of generosity towards local business. Contrarily, the supply of model painting hobbyists on site suggests it may be a promising place to find and contract with artists who can paint figures that you may acquire elsewhere. Overall, I am glad of Imperial Outpost, and find it a boon to the local gaming community. They are not perfect by any means, but they are certainly more good than bad. EDITED: I received a message from the store owner yesterday apologizing for the 3D printing issue and offering a refund. In addition, I was offered credit sufficient to cover my contract with a local miniature painter. This extraordinary offer and effort to 'make it right' is worthy of recognition and praise. 1 Star added. read more

I was looking to get back into playing Magic The Gathering after a 11 year hiatus from tournament and casual play. With the help of my kids I dusted off my old box of MTG tourney box form the 90's and taught my kids how to play. They were hooked and I had the MTG playing bug once again. So, I called around and talked to a few old players from my day and they all 3 told me to check out Imperial Outpost (Manawerx). I loaded up my wife and kids and headed to the shop. When I got there I was greeted by Aaron Combs, the owner and Manager of the card store. I was shocked to say at the sheer number of players and tables in the card shop. I mean there were no less than 30 players there. Aaron and his staff were VERY helpful and knowledgable and were willing to explain all the new changes to MTG since I last played. The store has tons of games, expansion boosters, singles, sets, binders, and on and on and on. My friends had not led me wrong. This was the best card shop in Phoenix. Aaron then told us about their weekly tournaments. (I could feel the competitive itch building in me again..). I thought he was going to say "Friday Night Tourney's" like long ago. But I was wrong. They have tournaments literally DAILY! I about fell over. I could finally play tournaments when it was convenient to our family. (anyone with kids or previously divorced will tell you that Friday's are the least free night of their week). I was so pleased to see a business who cares about the availability of tourney time to his customers. Finally a real MTG store. We bought almost $150.00 of MTG starters, boosters, commander decks, decks and some singles in the first week at the shop. We called the shop with questions on the new cards, abilities, rules and always was greeted with a wam 'Thank You for calling' followed by full explanations for all our questions. They were never in a hurry to hang up and would always ask if there was anything else we would like to know. Great customer support and service Needles to say, Imperial Outpost (Manawerx.com) is the only card shop for the McDaniel family now and our favorite place to hang out and play as a family. (P.S. This is a wonderful gaming store. I have met so many really close friends here, and I would like to consider the owner one of them. He is awesome and really takes time to listen to his gamers. The atmosphere here is one that inspires friendship and good nature, not drama and rumors. I spend entirely too much money here, everything is priced well ...and I love board games. Add those two together and I believe at last count our collection is over 300? All of my kids feel welcome even my little one (almost 2). We love to come in here for Thursday Game Night and they also have it on Sundays. Highly recommended for anyone who loves miniature gaming, role playing, and board gaming. Big fan of this store - the owner tries very hard to create an inviting atmosphere for all levels of gamers. Further, the store provides for a host of niches, including euro-games, Ameritrash, role playing, and miniature wargaming. Good amount of supplies (both GW and P3, among others). Lots of tables for miniature gaming, board games, CCGs, and painting in the back (and a fridge with soda). They've started carrying MTG over the last few months, and that collection has grown. Always something going on here, but nothing intimidating. The owner is very, very helpful: willing to answer questions about painting, games, and to make special orders (even trips over to Gilbert at Battlefoam when necessary). Yep, big fan. read more

The Good: Top-notch selection, be it in RPGs, miniature wargames, or board games. The store is CLEAN, well lit, well laid out, and is a place I don't feel awkward taking my female gaming buddies. The annual Gamer's Garage Sale is a fun event and while I can't make it to most of the regular events, when I do stop by I always get a good feeling of community from the store. Bonus points for carrying an excellent selection of lesser known RPGs! The Bad: Some of the customers from the neighboring Manaworks shop can be a bit on the immature side. I can't really fault Imperial Outpost for their behavior however, and the store has clearly taken pains over the years to discourage anti-social customers from coming around. Overall: For the west side of Phoenix, this is quite simply your best option for a gaming store. If you are a gamer, or curious about joining the hobby, stop by. Its that simple. read more

Imperial Outpost is a great hobby shop. Every game from the traditional D&D and Warhammer to the most esoteric and interesting games is catered to here, and the completeness of the selection as far as auxiliary items is very solid. The staff tends to let people look around a bit if the customer looks like they know what they're doing, which I think is a nice switch from the clingy clerks at other stores. One of the biggest pluses is the environment that's been created for gamers. I would say that on 95% of my visits, there's been a healthy crowd using the respectable floor space for sessions, and everybody always seems welcoming to questions and camaraderie. If you're into any tabletop game, check this place out. It'll be worth your time. read more

I started shopping here about 6 or 7 years ago. I'd come in during lunch breaks to look at a couple of 40k minis and talk to one of the employees. One day I came in with my wife and we asked about a board game night and found that they meet every Thursday. Since then I've met many friends and had years of great times at IOG. I've been going to gaming stores for about 15 years. The owner of Outpost, Darren, is the friendliest and one of the most knowledgeable that I've met. Darren has a huge selection of board games, minis, RPGs, and even helped the neighboring Magic store get started. Him and his staff are always there to answer questions, recommendations, or just chat. The store has hosted events, worked with local conventions, and even helped with a food drive for families of children with special needs. They focus on growing the gaming community. In the past, Darren has organized demo days to show off new games and run leagues for some games. The location is about as good as it gets in the west valley. It's across the street from ASU West. And close enough to Central Phoenix that anyone in the west valley can get there easily and some people from the east valley can make the trip quickly enough. If you like board games come in on Thursdays. The regulars are usually happy to teach new games to all players. read more

This is a great gaming store. The staff here are friendly. There is enough space to walk around people who are gaming. There are plenty of tables to play at. The selection of merchandise is great. There's a dedicated card store attached. The weekend hours are great for gamers who want to stay up a bit later to play. The prices are retail, which is okay if you're just buying something small and don't want to bother with or if you really need to look at what you're buying before you pay for it or if you really need something the same day.
