I come here mainly on weekends, when my home Y closes way the heck too early (4pm vs 7pm here)…read more I'd say that about 70-80% of their equipment is fine. Lots of free weights and strength machines. The highlight is the huge, high-ceilinged (30-40ft?) functional fitness space that features a turf area, a sled, kettlebells, plyo boxes, plyo smash balls, a do-it-all calisthenics multi-station that includes weighted pulleys, dip and pullup and monkey bars, a free hanging real boxing bag (nice angled uppercut bag that's just the right weight to make you "dance" to avoid the swing back, yet forgiving enough that you can punch it without gloves without risking a broken wrist or bruised knuckles), a pair of Assault bikes and treadmills, a Concept rower, some meh Schwinn stationary bikes (more on that later), and two full squat cages with plenty of plates and barbells. So, what about the other 20-30%, you ask? Well, their cardio machines range from so-so to unusably lousy. All the treadmills are Precor, which are a clear step down from the Life Fitness TMs most Ys have: smaller uglier fuzzy screens with spotty internet connection that can freeze up in the middle of a workout, noisier and less stable platform. The stationary bikes are a mix of Precor (typical mediocre gym bike with crap ergonomics where you feel like you're on a creaky toy bike pedaling against some barbaric pad not magnetic resistance) and Espresso (video-gaming type bike clearly designed to seduce ADD teenagers or lazy af adults) and the horrible Schwinn bikes (just as bad as most home exercise bikes, you can understand why people mostly use them as clothes hangers). Please please please can you guys get at least a few KEISER bikes? We know you can have decent taste in cardio machines because you kept your CONCEPT rowers instead of choosing some oversized gym-brand rowers which look impressive but have similarly lousy ergonomics. Oh and they have non-mechanical Assault brand treadmills which nobody uses because they are brutal on the knees, too narrow and unstable. I don't know who was in charge of choosing the cardio equipment, but that person needs to be put to work cleaning the bathrooms or something more appropriate! The other major gripe I have is their sauna --- it's spacious and new and pretty, but who in the hell decided to have only ONE row of seating? Completely idiotic, folks: did you not pass seventh grade Life Science, where they teach you that heat RISES, and that's why all real saunas have TWO levels of seating, with the 2nd one being a good 4-5 feet off the ground so that you get the full benefit of the heat in the room? Here you have to STAND on the damned low benches if you want to get a decent sweat in ... the sauna thermometer reads 170F but if you're sitting down you'd be lucky to get 140-150F, which is useless. (The sauna of the Melrose YMCA has the same idiotic mistake.) So, while I'm grateful that this Y offers me decent hours to work out on weekends making the long drive out there worthwhile, their cardio machines selection and sauna design really really need a rethink.

After 30 Check-Ins on Yelp.. I think I can finally leave a review here!…read moreI won't lie, moving to Natick to live and work right after college was tough. After work and with no car yet, I find myself stuck in my apartment with nothing to do and no nearby gym to go to for a workout. I am not the most sports-lovin' person, but I love attending kickboxing classes here! The instructors are all incredibly friendly and good, and even if you can't do a specific move there is always modifications available. It's an hour long and the first 10 minutes is usually the toughest - they make it fun! Classes switch up each week, working on different parts of your body. There are multiple class times available each day, which makes it really convenient if you miss your usual class - you can just join another! I usually go for the evening classes which have about 10-15 people, and starts off with around 20% bag work, and more circuit trainings/sets afterwards. Outside of the awesome workout itself, the studio is like a little Natick community.. lots of cute kids coming in for Jiu Jitsu, HIIT Kickboxers, parents waiting for their kids etc. I'm glad I found it!

They all appear to be teenagers, so they don't have customer service one could hope for. -they're a little extreme with their shoe policy. You can't wear shoes from the outside inside, and prepare to have one of the teenagers tell you off. If you're like me and accidentally wear them into the parking lot to grab something from you car, prepare to take them off and do the workout barefoot. So, take what you will from it!

While I'm not out evangelizing the world for CrossFit, I certainly will mention it to anyone who asks and I will ALWAYS sing the praises of CrossFit TILT. Tilt has become my third home at this point. I started Tilt tremendously nervous about CrossFit. I've tried CF before and wound up really hurting myself because a coach pushed me to do things outside of my ability and comfort zone. I shared my concerns with the coaching staff at Tilt and they've been so supportive and so accommodating to my fitness level and limitations. I feel like I'm in very good hands here and I've seen improvement in strength and mobility. Crazy. Equipment and facility is clean and in terrific shape, exercises and classes are challenging and for people of all levels. I've had the great pleasure of working with the Nutritionist at the gym and have seen added progress in my fitness goals. Don't let the price scare you, it is worth every single penny. Love the community, love everything about this place. Tilt fam for life!

As a runner I was looking for a workout that would help me strengthen my running not only thru…read morerunning drills but also an all body workout. Plus coaches who were knowledgeable enough to help improve form and be supportive without trying to control very last thing. And I was looking for a gym/program/studio that had a community and actively fostered it. OTF Natick has been the perfect location and has the ideal team to give me what I need when I need it. It says something that members themselves have evolved into coaches who know the ins and outs of working thru a 60-minute workout. While the running drills on the treadmills are my 'bread and butter', it's the rower and the floor where I get the biggest benefit. The routines are varied day to day. Different focus and different personal challenges. You're never trying to keep up with the person next to you (although everyone I workout next to inspires me to go a little harder). The strength and endurance workout on floor and rower push me and improve me every time. By the time I get on a tread (I do this last to practice running fatigued), I'm warmed up and able to push myself that bit harder. Recent results? I've decreased my road miles from 20 to about 12 a week to do the OTF Transformation Challenge at the moment. So most runs are 1.5-2 miles in the 3G classes I typically do. Last Sunday participated in a 5M race I've done for the last 6 years. Beat my best time on the course by 15 seconds. That's the results from OTF Natick But what makes the studio hum is the energy that the coaches bring into every class. They have built (I've been a member there for 3 years and workout among many who've been regulars since the studio opened) a real community feel to every workout. There is the mingling pre-class, the class outline with what to watch for and highlights (and possible lowlights). In class warm up, station by station walk thrus and in-block encouragement. But what always amazes me is the way the coach spreads their attention to the details of every participants workout. Not by crowding in on an individual or calling people out from across the room. Just the subtle, quiet hint or tip on how to fix form or increase a challenge. Always encouraging. Always celebrating. The studio under Jam has elevated an already great atmosphere and community feeling to new levels - creating a communal atmosphere thru social channels (the recent Transformation Challenge Miles Logged week had people logging miles at all hours of the day in an effort to boost their team score) & notes of gratitude for staff and members alike in the studio lobby. If you're like me, you want a gym or workout that doesn't intimidate. That challenges you to your next best level. And that lifts you when you need it, celebrates when you win the smallest of achievements, and embraces you for who you are and what you bring to each class. That is what I've found at OTF Natick and with their top team of coaching and support staff.

I joined OTF Natick back in November last year. I started with a free trial class and definitely my…read morefirst class was very challenging and Coach Marissa was able to help me out in my first class. I initially took the elite package ( 8 classes per month ) with the aim of taking up two classes per week as I had a gym membership at another gym as well. I went for a couple of months and I really started enjoying the classes. I always felt all the coaches kept motivating me to keep pushing and I kept improving in every class. Once I was done with around 16 classes I thought of upgrading to the Unlimited classes package with the aim of going to at least three classes per week but I ended up going for at least five classes a week. I never thought I would be able to come this far when I started otf. The classes are planned in such a way that you never get bored and you are always challenged to give your best. Many a times I come to the class thinking I should take it light but the moment the class starts I feel motivated. So far I had attended all the classes like 2g, 3g, lift 45 and every class is so unique and helps you to focus on cardio as well as strength training. Currently I am doing the transformation challenge and I make it a point to stay consistent and I feel otf has really improved my endurance and strength in general and keeps me active throughout the day. Special mention to my coaches Sarah, Nikki, Marissa, Jam each and everyone is amazing and sometimes I feel it's more like a dance class than a workout class . Our studio manager Nicole as well as the folks in the front desk are so welcoming. I definitely recommend otf Natick to anyone who wants to add a healthy and a fun fitness journey into their daily routine.
