Awesome people, sweet location. -5 to 10 min walk to beach -5 min walk to International Market/Hula Dog -Free parking -Quiet but still in heart of downtown Waikiki -Super friendly staff -theBUS stop right outside on Kuhio (which can take you around the whole island) -Full kitchen -HD tv, with cool local channels, surfing champs were on -Clean rooms read more

Pros: Great location with walking distance to the Wakiki beach. Rooms are clean and spacious, albeit old. Friendly Staff. Cons: Parking is free but is first-come-first-serve and gets full around 5 pm. Fitness room only has one treadmill and cycling machine. read more

experience: 4.5 stars "thee pink hotel".. prior to a wknd stay.. ive never heard of this hotel, the reason why i stayed here is because this was the ONLY waikiki hotel that had 2 rooms available. for the kamaaina (resident) price of $187ish for a 650sq ft one bedroom, it was a steal! pros: - spacious rooms at reasonable prices - fully equipd kitchens (stove, micro, reefer, utensils, plates, glasses, etc) - a/c units in living room and bedroom - good sized flatscreen tvs in both living room and bedroom! - good sized safe in bedroom - full bedroom closet w/ floor to ceiling mirrors - lots of room to entertain - sofa, chair, dining table for 4, study desk, patio/balcony w/ 2 chairs and small table - 3.. yes 3 landline phones (bedroom, kitchen and study table) - jacuzzi tub w/ 8 water jets... yes sir! cons: - outdated stylings and furnishings.. minus the flatscreen tvs - ridiculously tight parking structure.. early birds get the best stalls *hint* - pink accents.. omg.. everything in this building was pink - ugly view from balcony.. let alone any window bottom line: the "price" and the "pros" made it extremely easy to ignore the cons.. read more

This place is fabulous. It's 6 minutes from the beach, and steps away from the heart of Waikiki. Our room was spacious with a balcony overlooking Waikiki and the Pacific. There is free parking and, best of all, this is about the friendliest and most helpful hotel staff I've seen anywhere. And the price is very reasonable. Other hotels charge a "facilities fee" and up to $50 a day for parking--money better spent on a nice meal or some fun activity. This place is low-key and not very showy, but delivers where it counts--in value and service. A real hidden gem in the heart of Waikiki. read more

I loved this place! Stayed here in June with my girlfriend while she was visiting, and we found a great deal on their website. The room was about $90 a night, and we stayed for five days. The Good: 1) CHEAP! Exactly what we were looking for price-wise. 2) The full kitchen was great! 3) Free parking (though this had a negative - read on for more)! 4) The room was clean and spacious, and everything looked relatively well taken care of. 5) Free internet (corded, though, so only one laptop can be plugged in). 6) The room was very quiet (because of the fact that the windows were well structured, I think). The Bad: 1) The free parking was not always necessarily available. On a Thursday night, the night before we were supposed to leave, the parking was packed and there was no room. The people in the parking garage who watched it told me and my girlfriend to park across the street at the other hotel and that we would be reimbursed for the amount we had to spend ($18). We went ahead and did that, only to find out that no one in the hotel knew about this policy and we weren't going to be reimbursed for the money! This was a big deal for us, since we're not the richest people in the universe. Needless to say, I battled with the concierge for a while, but to no avail - and there is no way that I'm going all the way back down to Waikiki just to get my $18 back when I work so much. This in and of itself took off one star for this review, just because it caused me so much trouble and stress, and the concierge treated me like an idiot for not knowing they weren't going to pay me back. Also: if you're going to tout free parking, only let the people who actually are paying for the hotel park there! We're paying guests, why should we have to struggle for parking if it's supposedly included? :\ 2) One of the stovetop burners didn't work. Though, the others did, so I didn't have any complaints there. All in all, the positives outweighed the negatives by amounts, and I would stay here again - I would, however, be really wary of the parking situation. read more

Really nice receptionists! My dad ran by here because we were basically hotel hopping every night to get the best deals but this place offered us a good deal (to us a good deal was under $160 a night) with huge rooms!!! The decor is outdated (its like you're in a 90's movie set) but hey-- let's face it. You're in Hawaii to DO things, so you just need a bed (they're clean here)! read more

We got the two room suite (sleeps 6) at a good rate. The room is spacious and relatively clean too. hotel staff is very friendly. The pool is heated but tiny. Who really needs a pool in Hawaii? The gym is what the picture shows...what you see is what you get. The hotel itself is a bit old but the parking is free! Most of the hotels charge $25-$40 per day) Great location. Good rates. Great staff. Uh and did I mention free parking. 3.5 stars read more

I have stayed in Ilima Hotel twice in the last six years. Both times were very pleasant with no disappointment. The location is in the heart of Waikiki within a block from restaurants and Starbucks (Wakiki Trade Center). The hotel provides very good value for what I paid for - clean room, free parking, free wifi, kitchenette (with a small full size fridge), coin laundry, friendly staff, quiet at night etc. Everything turned out just the way we had hoped for. No gimmicks. No extra charges. It's hard to find a reasonable hotel with those qualities in Waikiki. I would highly recommend this hotel If you are looking for a no-frills hotel. read more

This place definitely is a great place to stay if your wanting to enjoy Honolulu on a budget. The parking can be tough on Wednesdays, and you may have to swat of the prostitutes after 10pm, but the service inside the hotel is super legit. Fresh towels, room was always clean and you never hear your neighbors. The view isn't much, but they are truly accommodating. I asked for two pillows and within minutes the staff brought us three. To boot, the kitchen comes in handy in case you wanna go food land and get some things. I def would have to say I will make plans to go back in the future if my money gets funny. Best, the beaches are all 5 minutes from the place. Score! read more

Affordable family accommodations an easy 2 1/2 block walk to the beach. 2BR apartment (full kitchen & lanai) with free parking is less than a tiny room at the beachside resort. Definitely dated-- but clean, spacious, and staff with lots of aloha spirit. Teeny tiny pool. Awesome murals :) read more

We stayed 2 nights at the Ilima hotel. There were 12 of us and we got 2, 2 bedroom suits. They were across the hall so our kids were going back and forth through, with no problems or complaints from anyone. Mind you we have 3 loud 10ish year olds and a really loud baby boy so it was really nice.. On Wednesday we took the kids to a complimentary Kukui nut lei making class hosted by the most beautiful aunties in the world. Our leis came out so beautiful, what a nice keep sake. Anyway... Its close to lots of places walking distance, and just a few blocks from Waikiki beach. Only reason for 4 stars is due to parking, it should be first come first serve. We are from Oahu, so a nice stressless stay in Waikiki is great! Thanks Ilima hotel read more

Loved this place! It was a perfect place to stay while in Hawaii and on a budget. What the hotel is missing in glitz and glam it well makes up in service and smiles. It is located only two blocks from the beach and all the shopping. What a great find! The rooms are HUGE and it comes with a full kitchenette that allows you to save even more while cooking on your stay. All the dishes and pots are provided. Like any other hotel, they make up the beds and provide new shampoos ext. The best of both worlds. This place is PINK...I mean, Pepto pink...and a little old. But like I said, the people were so nice here. Always friendly and helpful. They even offer a FREE lei making class on Wednesdays. It was so fun and a great take home souvenir. Overall, a great place to stay to see Hawaii without having to give up your child's tuition. Pretty in Pink....I think so :) read more

Everyone is very friendly. I would say the cleaning products used in the lobby and rooms give it an institutional feel. Smelling more like a hospital, than the fun 70s hotel 2 blocks from the beach that it is. This place is on my short list for affordable suite hotels. read more

Staff seems kind but is really unprofessional and rude. Do not recommend coming to this hotel book any other if you have a choice.

My family and I stayed at the Ilima hotel and we had the best experience with the whole staff. Especially Courtney. Due to COVID-19 we scheduled our time for the pool and it was amazing to have a private pool. Thank you to the wonderful staff. You guys made our stay awesome. read more

First time at this hotel...We had 5 people in a 2 bedroom suite. Welcome to the 70's. We had a very nice stay bedrooms were a bit cramped, and beds were small, but overall was very comfortable. Hotel style is very dated but well kept and clean. We heard there was limited parking but we didnt run into a problem, and was a bit tight with a mini van... But parking is FREE! Bottom line: Great Price, Friendly Staff, Dated but Clean Room.... would go again read more

This was a wonderful experience. Check in time is supposed to be 3 pm but I wasn't feeling good and was going out that night and desperately needed a nap. The desk clerks let me check in at 1pm and my room was amazing! It was huge and clean. Good coffee. Great view of Ala Wai Canal. I wish I stayed longer than one night because the bed was so comfortable. The hotel is so damned cute and maybe a little older than some but it's very Hawaiian. Free parking and a kitchenette-- wow, it's wonderful! I'll come back for sure. Love this place and its staff. They gave me a very pretty shell lei when I left. Mahalo Ilima! read more

This hotel had me at Aloha when I first stayed here years ago. I didn't need a full kitchen then since I was single but my life has changed to a family life now. Since then, I've been loyal to return only to Ilima Hotel. This hotel will not disappoint you. PROS: -Hotel staff treats you like your part of their "family". I appreciate the Ohana welcoming guys! Thank you! -Great hotel room rates -Spacious and clean room and bathroom -Carpet is well kept and clean -Nice, spacious closets -Lanai is clean and always have two patio chairs to chill at -Small pool that my hubby loved to dip in after a long day out -Housekeeping is friendly and very accomodating; Always kept it neat after cleaning and cleaned the bathroom thoroughly -Always had warm, fresh towels that seem to have just been removed from the dryer. -FULL KITCHEN; sink, fridge, electric stove, microwave, toaster, cutting board, utensils, dishware, bowls, kitchen towels -FREE Internet -nice size 32 inch flat screen tv -remote control for AC/fan -FREE parking but parking IS limited. If you arrive from being out all day long and get to the hotel at say around 8:00pm - 9:00pm, you might be SOL from getting a parking space. You end up parking out in the front of the hotel where it's metered parking or across the street where there's a garage and pay per day. -walk up the Nohonani Street and it leads to cross-street Kuhio. Continue to walk and cross Kuhio is where you'll find the International Market Place and you're just a block away from the main strip, Kalakua Street and Waikiki Beach -Fridays you get a special treat where the staff get together and sing Hawaiian songs. They sing beautifully! WE LOVE IT! CONS (which is why I subtract 1 star): -Parking is very small and limited parking spots. Be wise, if you can rent a small or economy size car. However, caravans fit but it's snug. -Limited channels to browse from -In the past, it was free but now charges $2.50 for every time you use the security password safe (the signs of a bad economy, we all suffer, even the hotels) MY BIGGEST CONCERN AND HOPING ILIMA STAFF READS THIS: PLEASE CONSIDER TO REPAINT OR REPLACE THE CLOSET DOORS. I FOUND MY 13 MONTH TODDLER PICKING AT THE CHIPPING PAINT AND HAD PUT IT IN HER MOUTH. SINCE THIS IS GEARED AND AN IDEAL PLACE FOR FAMILIES TO STAY, I THINK FOR SAFETY REASON YOU SHOULD TAKE MY EXPERIENCE INTO HIGH CONSIDERATION AND TAKE ACTION TO RESOLVE THIS MATTER. read more

***4.5 stars*** and for my last review of my recent hawaiian trip, i review my hotel, my home for 6 days. this was a great little hotel, just off the main thoroughfare in waikiki, that gives you a great bang for your buck. PROS: +check-in time is 3pm, but if you arrive earlier and your room is ready, you can get the keys sooner, as was the case for me. arrived at 1pm, got the keys a few minutes later. note that they can hold luggage if you arrive before 3pm and your room is not yet ready. +HUGE, space studio, roughly 530 sq ft +1 king & 1 double bed, can sleep up to 5 people! +dining table & chairs +fully stocked kitchen with pots and pans, fridge, microwave, glasses and utensils +bathroom had hair dryer, shampoo, soap +towels were really NICE, thick, soft and plush +outside patio had table and chairs with an unobstructed view of waikiki and the water +flat screen tv (although we never actually watched tv during our stay!) +free wifi +air conditioner with remote +free parking on site in dedicated garage - although this is first come first served, so once it fills up you have to park across the street in the paid lot or find parking elsewhere CONS -bathroom sink had a long crack inside the bowl, but was otherwise functional -furniture is a bit older for $120/nite plus taxes & fees, i really have no complaints about this hotel and the staff was very friendly and helpful whenever i needed them. read more

Great Cheap Hotel on Waikiki Beach... - Best part: the kitchenette! Larger refrigerator, microwave, sink, stove, cabinets with pots, pans, cups and dishes. We made breakfast for ourselves here and could heat up leftovers from the fancy restaurants. Made it easy to travel with an infant. - Big rooms with big windows (no view) - Wifi only in the lobby - One block from the International Market - 5 min walk from Waikiki Beach - 1 min walk from two, that's right, two Starbucks - They give you beach mats and towels and you can go experience the same Waikiki Beach as the people who paid for the resort hotels. Chill on their beachfront, eat at their restaurants, listen to their band play, we even took one of their floaty rafts out on the waves. Someone gave it to us. - Washers and dryers for your vacation clothes, bring quarters to buy detergent - super easy parking - Bring your own coffee and filters for the small coffee makers, we haven't seen the complimentary coffee yet. - Watch out for the Waikiki nightlife, I mean if you have kids, get them in at the late and early hours. Waikiki is more of the Vegas strip flavor of Hawaii if you know what I mean We usually skimp on hotels so we were expecting much less, we were pleasantly surprised. Not a super fancy hotel, but we liked it, it made traveling with kids easy read more

We spent several evenings searching reviews on Yelp, Expedia, Trip Advisor, etc, looking for the perfect place to stay for a free nights in Honolulu... We wanted something low cost, comfortable, and close to the beach. Highly recommend this hotel. All hotels get their good and bad reviews, but the only negative thing I can think of for Ilima, was the shower head was crap... And squirted all over the place. Other than that, highly recommended. read more

Never actually stayed there but i am a local born and raised on oahu. Hawaiian by blood. I called to potentially get a room tobrest my weary eyes and have a nice night. BUT, that wasnt the case i called to make a reservation and got treated with everything but aloha. Whomever took my call just brushed me off not even checking to have rooms availible. She just said there is none. Unknowing how much i was willing to pay for the room she just said no. Then she said she said she has to go shes checking in a customer. She didnt even offer to put me on hold to check or get back to me. How unprofessional. This absolute disrespect and rudeness happened at 11:30 pm pacific time. I hope this hotel takes note of the people that represents them. No aloha whatsoever. To those that plan on staying here im the future keep in mind there are other places that specialize in hospitality. The people here sho uld take care orthe people that pay their salaries in this economy. This woman im surpised is employed by this well historic landmark and hotel. I dont ever plan on staying there. read more

The room decor was motel level, not bad but not great. It was definitely a walk to get to the water so this is not a place to stay if you want to spend your vacation at the beach. And the ugly. . . Roaches!! This is not an uncommon problem on the islands but I was still surprised to come back to the hotel after dinner the first night and see roaches running when we flipped on the lights. Ech. Next time, I am going to pay a little bit more for a nicer hotel closer to the water. And hopefully this time we aren't going to have any unwanted pests. read more

So, it has been 2 weeks. I have been assigned a detective and still no word from either parties. The jewels stolen were worth at least $5000, and the case is classified as 1st degree BURGLARY! The person who took the jewels waited until the last day before my family checked out. The burglar targeted exactly the time--10 am-4 pm the day before check out!!! Plus, all of my family members remember that woman's face who cleaned the room. The hotel staff probably are in some island gang and steal any valuable items. I heard that the "items" go to the other islands. The hotel is keeping this under the rug. The management are EXPERTS at hiding all the illegal things - ignoring protocols and aware about tons of theft in Waikiki. Many tourists are here and will never recover these valuable items. I contacted other hotels around them on how the security works... and my sister's hotel Ala Moana Hotel had a better security protocol. I was informed on the proper procedure. In addition, the Wifi did not even work properly. JULY 8 2013 - BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU continues to work on this FORMAL COMPLAINT. MANAGEMENT CONTINUOUSLY DISREGARD THE ISSUE. IN ADDITION, THE LAST REVIEWER FOR ILIMA PROBABLY was PAID TO WRITE A VERY EXCELLENT REVIEW. OBVIOUSLY, SHE RESEARCHED THAT THE HOTEL WAS OWNED BY TERUYA. Good hotel for the money. No 5 star deluxe hotel but a comfortable bed, plenty of free parking and decent kitchenettes. Close to the beach, about a 5 minute walk and they provide layout mats to rest on and beach towels. Their pool is warm and staff generally courteous. If you're looking to stay on a tight budget while having basic amenities while on your vacation, this is the place to stay at. We had a 2 BR suite which was very spacious and in the heart of Waikiki. It even had a kitchen with a stove, full refrigerator, and a microwave. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. Everything is walking distance... The only downside is the noise. But if you're out all day at the beach in the sun, you won't even notice it! read more

Just got back from a 5-night stay. Traveled with my my spouse, 4 kids, my sister and her 2 boys. We were in a 2 bedroom condo. There was plenty of room for all of us to sleep comfortably. This hotel is very dated. They definitely need to upgrade the rooms. The windows in our condo had some makeshift insulation with foam padding and aluminum foil. Having the full kitchen was great. We always had breakfast in the condo before we went out. With a lot of kids, this is a necessity. It was easy and quick to get extra towels, sheets, pillows, whatever we needed. Staff was very friendly. Did a couple of loads in the 3rd floor laundry room. 30 minutes to wash a load, 50 minutes to dry it. Easy and convenient! Price is good for budget conscious folks. Free parking is great. We never had a problem finding a spot, even with our minivan. 10 minute leisurely stroll to Waikiki Beach. Half a block walk to a plethora of shops. 5 minute drive to get onto H1 freeway. Although a good hotel, I probably won't be back to this one. Only because I visited my sister over at Ko Olina and I'll probably do that next time I'm visiting Oahu. read more

After much research for a hotel for my Hawaii trip, I went with Ilima after seeing consistently good reviews on this website and others. It was the only one that was constantly highly rated and within my price range. The service was good. We were greeted upon our arrival and taken care of immediately. Booked the room through Expedia and paid for it advance. The room was a studio with 2 beds and a kitchen. It was one step above the cheapest room. The hotel is in good condition but make no mistake, the style is 20-30 years ago. Everything looks old but I don't mind that since the price was much better than the other hotels in the area. The room had all the amenities you could ask for and a new 32 inch lcd TV. Note: the TV they had in our room was a Sharp designed to integrate the hotel video software for PPV and such. They locked out all the inputs to the TV so you CANNOT hook up your laptop to the TV, or a DVD player or a ps3 or anything for that matter. That's a big disappointment for me because I wanted to use Redbox and my laptop to watch movies at night but no go. Had to use my laptop. On the plus you do get free wired internet in the room. Although it is painfully slow compared to any decent cable connection. Around 750kbps or so. So you can't use it for netflix or hulu or youtube most of the time. Other than the technology, the room was nice. It had plenty of room and the kitchen made breakfast very easy while on vacation. The AC was a window unit with a remote, there is no central air. The hotel had a pool that was very small but I didn't use it. On to the free parking: it's available but with a few caveats. It gets filled up fast and it's really cramped. It has some of the smallest parking spots I've seen anywhere outside of Europe or Asia. Big surprise for Americans used to plenty of room. I had a convertible which was not that big and it was still a pain to park. Don't even think about bringing a Suburban or Deville in there. Minivans do alright. The lot will fill up around 9pm or so. So plan ahead. Weekends are even worse. We came back from a late dinner on Fri night and the lot was completely full. The staff was helpful and gave us a map showing all the lots available to us. We were able to find 2 that were around $7-8 for overnight. One is a public pay lot across the street and the other was the Waikiki Trade Center that has $7 for 10 hours when prepaid. The latter was about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. But no other hotels have free parking around there and street parking is impossible. All the good spots get filled up by employees working in the area. Good: Cleanliness Location Service Bad: Small parking lot gets filled up fast TV inputs locked out so you can't watch your own content on their TV Other than that I would say it was an overall good experience. I know I'm being picky about the parking and TV but those were the only flaws in an otherwise perfect stay. read more

My wife and I have been coming to this hotel for as long as we've been coming to the islands. We've stayed at the Renew and others but we keep coming back to the Ilima. AVOID! It must of been family members who wrote these good reviews or people on a very, very tight budget. My family stayed here one night (because I refused to stay any longer) I did not sleep at all! The A/C is very noisy and gave me a headache. Worst of all if you look around the A/C it's covered in black mold! My two year had trouble breathing and threw up. The oven has tinfoil under the burners (tacky) and looked like it was ready to kick the bucket. The hallways and doors look like this hotel use to be an apartment complex. The whole place needs to be remodeled and up dated. There was only shampoo no conditioner and a very cheap, thin soap bar. A noisy bar next door with shady people all day long hanging out. With two kids no way would I go outside with them. The hotel locks the garage gate at 10 to prevent these people from going in. Only a throw blanket, no actual comforters. No bell hop to help with luggage. Ugly hotel, ugly area. Save your money and stay at a nicer place. read more

Most of the reviews are spot on. It's basic "condo" style living without the frills. But with the savings, we were able to do other things! The location was very convenient; right near everything, but not overly noisy. The free Wi-Fi, Parking (first come basis), local calls, and cable TV were a hit for my family. It didn't cost us a fortune like some of the places we wanted to stay at. We got beach towels to use and mats and daily papers if we wanted. The onsite laundry room also made it very convenient and that was the only small cost we had. My father-in-law even referred to the hotel as "home" when he was tired and wanted to go back in because it had the simple things we needed to feel like we weren't in a hotel. On Wednesdays, there is a lei making class and the staff overall is very friendly. Karen, who worked in the office was very helpful when i made the reservations. In person, I asked her for a favor and she was able to accommodate. She knew it would be the "cherry on top" to my stay, and she was right. A simple request that meant a lot. read more

Upon Mom's recommendation , she and I stayed for 7 nights at the hotel. Great service! We had trouble with Wi Fi, BAM, a gentleman was there to troubleshoot. He even remembered Mom from frequent prior visits. His name escapes me. But couldn't be friendlier. Has been with the hotel since the 90's. Our housekeeper was also an alumni. Great space, However, full bed was too hard and queen bed too soft, feeling springs. Overall, I'd. return and recommend this hotel. Room 1207 I believe. Great view of the mountains, canal and golf course. read more

We found all the people at Ilima Hotel in Waikiki to be extremely helpful. Hotel is clean, the room is well-apoointed, the balcony overlooking the canal is very peaceful. We can see the sun coming over the mountain in the morning! Ilima Hotel is close to everything: a 10-12 minute walk to the beach, to shopping, and to the Food Pantry in Waikiki. It is also convenient to the main one way street out of Waikiki if you are driving. We even walked to Ala Moana Mall. Many restaurants are nearby if you do not want to cook in the room. Check out the lei making class on Wednesday morning at 10:00. It is a nice perk of the hotel and the information that Diane provided about the materials to make the lei was very interesting. The free parking on sight is awesome. We had no trouble finding a space each of the 10 days. Please consider the Ilima Hotel. You will not be disappointed. read more
