    Mixing the Alfredo up.
    Aaron D.

This place was SO good! From the man who invested the dish and made table side! They have pictures on some of the walls of the celebrities over the decades that have eaten there. We sat outside which was nice but the indie also looked amazing. This place is a must try if you want fettuccine done the original and right way!

Update: Here's a Pro Tip I wish my father-in-law had heeded. If you're the type who loves shrimp or chicken with your fettuccine Alfredo, resist the urge. My father-in-law asked--with me, his European son-in-law, right there trying to stop him--and, well... let's just say it didn't go over well. Alfredo's takes their dish seriously. The pasta is rich, classic, and not to be tampered with. Respect the sauce.

So it was a bit of a mission just to be able to dine at Il Vero. It actually took me two tries to finally squeeze in a reservation seat for 3pm right before closing hours for lunch. I arrived the night before at 7pm without a reservation and was turned away because apparently they don't like to serve customers without a reservation. I think this is to keep the reputation and legacy going for the legendary alfredo name that they've established! I was seated pretty swiftly when I arrived for my 3pm reservation. Ordered a salad to start and the fettuccine alfredo. This is very different from the usual alfredo I eat in the USA. The parmagiano is fresh and tarty with a bit of zesty flavors to it. The fettuccine was so good! Al dente and tasted so fresh. I thought it was going to be a heavy meal but I actually devoured everything on the plate to my surprise! I wish the restaurant did not have such a strict reservation rule, but I could see how this place would become one of those chaotic tourist experiences if they didn't stick to the reservation policy. Is it a little overhyped? I think to a certain extent. I'm just glad I was able to come here and say I've tried the legendary alfredo origin! So make sure you book a reservation if your planning to try it out.

I ordered pasta: Bombollotti all'Amatriciana. It was uneatable: pasta undercooked, tomato sauce extremely acid and the overall saltiness was overwhelming. I requested the waiter to please ask the kitchen to cook longer the pasta and decrease the amount of salt. The second try was the same as the first: a very salty, acid and undercooked pasta that was hard and sticky. The maître stopped by and asked me whether everything was ok. I replied: no. And with angry face he remarked: "this is pasta amatriciana". No more space to discussion or effort to please the customer. My partner was not very happy with her Chitarra alla Carbonara either. Although it was more eatable, she preferred not to finish it. We asked for the invoice. The maître brought the invoice: 45 euros. We paid, not making any comment or remark, and left without receiving not even a thank you or good-bye. Lack of quality, manners and respect for the customer. Clearly it is a place with a lot of history and name. The demand is high enough not to care about what they are offering to a punctual customer. Talking with friends that live in Rome, they tell me that lately the restaurants downtown are abusing with the "al dente" criteria, offering undercooked pasta that is in fact a too hard (not firm as "al dente" represents).

This restaurant is a must try if you are in Rome. But don't forget to try the Alfredo, it is absolutely wonderful and this is the first place it was created! We also tried out the basket with fried mozzarella and zucchini fritters which were just okay. I ordered the carbonara and it did not disappoint, so rich! It was a family members birthday, they brought out a tiramisu and the pianist played a song for her. The waiters didn't have the best attitude but we were able to look past it as the food was great. Overall, would recommend eating here if you're visiting Rome! There is a line before opening, but we had reservations. Reservations fill up quickly so plan ahead!

The food, the service and the performance where they make your pasta in front of you, is all to be appreciated. Prices are great, as well.

What a great experience. 5 start service, food and ambiance. Book a reservation in advance, I did at least 3 weeks out. We had a party of 10 too. We arrived with no issues and they had the table ready. We indulged in some appetizers and wine before feasting on the the pasta. Now they are known for the table side Alfredo. MUST GET! That's why you come here. It's amazing and probably the best Alfredo I've had. Cheesy and flavorful. A win! The Cacio n Pepe and Amatriciana are both other pastas our group tried and they too were excellent. Highly recommend. The decor is filled with nostalgia and lots of people who have visited over the years. A bit touristy, yes, but that's what we were. If visiting Rome, ass this to your list! You won't be disappointed. Check out my pics and videos.

The lady gets the portion in the dish that is mixed in. It is tradition. We added and splurged on black truffle on top of our dish.

Amazing fettuccine Alfredo and mozzarella di bufalo. Service impeccable. The ambiance was elegant and we felt welcomed.

This restaurant has history back to 1908 for fettuccine Alfredo but other choices in the menu are very good too. Biggest disappointment is they has only 2 dessert choices out of 6 or 7 on the menu. I would say it's moderately priced. A good solid choice for supper.

You come here for the ambiance (historical picts of famous personalities throughout the last 100 years, being hand-fed noodles by the proprietor, by the fist-full), the presentation (handmade Alfredo made/served table side), and the Alfredo (90-100gm/plate of plain, but delicious unadorned plate of Fettuccine Alfredo) and close proximity to the shopping district of Rome. Come 90mins early to walk & shop up an appetite, before dinner time; as you'll be too full & sleepy afterwards. €20/plate, €2 pane, €89/3 person dinner.

Great place to visit if you are in Rome. Delicious fettuccine Alfredo.... fresh and yummy!! Nice place for the family. The only thing is..... no air conditioning Excelente opción si estás en Romà!!!

Service. Tradition. Pasta One of my must haves when I'm Roma. Reservation is a must. Prosciutto with mozzarella Their pasta is phenomenal. The white wine that they make is great as well. Enjoy!

With pesto & tomato. Don't ever do the mistake of ordering it!

We thought this would be a better meal based on the reputation of being the birth place of Alfredo sauce. Very unimpressive.

Review # 1200 After…read moresome shopping on the Via cola Di Riemzo, we were ready for lunch. This spot was a Yelp find. We arrived just before they opened at 12:30. We asked for a table outside and the kind lady asked us if we had a reservation (oh oh). We didn't. No problem as we took our pick of one of the tables. Two levels inside with a small Bar in the back. Before we knew it, outside seating was full and inside also filled up-a good sign. We ordered a liter (ended up being too much but when in Rome...) of their house Red and enjoyed it. For starters, we ordered the Fried Artichokes (thick breading and will order the Roman style with garlic/vinegar next time), fried Zucchini and Suppli-Cacio Pepe. The Suppli was delicious and was enjoyed the most. For main, it was Pasta Carbonara (Guanciale )-Proper carbonara and the streak of not having a bad version of this dish in Rome continues. The sliced Beef with mushrooms was also delicious -super tender and thin pieces of beef (medium rare as requested). We asked if the Tiramisu was house-made. Our server answered, "yes, and I am the one who makes it." How could we not order after that?! One of the best Tiramisus we've had. Perfect balance of coffee dipped lady fingers with cream-delicious! Our Server was kind, attentive and full of hustle -she was covering a lot of ground. Don't miss this Gem if you are in the Prati district.

I had possibly the most amazing chick food pasta a girl could imagine. Girls know what girl food is. The pasta in Italy is just better -obviously. But then put all sorts of girl flavors on it like Lemon and Orange, just lightly enough, zest with a small hint of cheese-..... omgosh. Yes, yes, and yes. Need my hubs to replicate at home. He is going to be busy trying to perfect this. Tagliatelle with orange and lemon parmesan. This was it. It was the best. Everything else we ordered was amazing as well. Wait outside. They don't have a sign telling you to wait, no server telling you to wait. You wait out there, wondering if you're in the right place, but then people stand behind you and you're like - oh! I'm here. This is the place. There are possibly 4 tables inside. It's small. I read about them being rude- we did not have that problem. In fact, they made a mistake and we kindly let them know we ordered something else- they corrected it and were nice about it.

So happy we did as this place definitely delivers. There is seriously like 8 tables in the dining room so expect a wait in line but trust me, it's worth it. We waited outside for about 25 minutes. They do take your order while in line so the wait for food (once you do get a table) is abbreviated. Out of the world pastas and the pistachio tiramisu is seriously out of this world. Inexpensive table wine rounds out a great meal. This is the type of place I love to go to. It's quaint, zero pretense and delivers on its food. A great find!
