Ran across this lil trattoria while out and about one day running errands.... Mind you I'm a pizza taco beef stew meatloaf : KISS "keep it simple stupid " attitude towards food... We (friend and I) stopped in and decided to check it out. Well lo and behold I can only say lovely things about the place since they make everything fresh you can see them cooking the food there and you sit and converse and relax.... They have a build your own pasta dis option and they have the regular options and the ratio to person food is a lot... I had sausage personal zaaaa and friend had chicken fettuccini and we were both full with just a couple of bites... the food is flavorful and come to you piping hot which I like my food to be. They have wines and soft drinks. My favorite the moscato wine, fruitful and bold... their deserts the tiramisu ohhhh light and heavenly just the right amount of everything.... If you're going to be in Broward near the city of Plantation it's a must try .... Place is tucked in a lil strip mall area but the ambiance is absolutely worth going.... I had such a great experience here tonight. The food was absolutely delicious from start to finish. We started with the calamari, which was cooked perfectly--light, crispy, and not greasy at all. The garlic rolls were insane... honestly some of the best I've ever had. We shared a house salad, and it was huge--definitely big enough to split. Everything tasted super fresh, and the balsamic dressing was perfectly drizzled and flavorful without being overpowering. For my entrée, I ordered the chicken parmesan with angel hair pasta. I'm pretty picky about marinara sauce (and I'm Italian, so I hold places to a higher standard), but everything was completely on point. The flavors, the sauce, the portion--just really well done. What made the experience even better was the owner coming over to talk to us. She shared details about the food and the restaurant, which made it feel really personal and welcoming. They also host special wine tastings at the end of the month with a curated menu, which I definitely want to come back for. We didn't try the pizza this time, but I already know I'll be back. They offer thin crust and even a deep dish that you can order ahead (about an hour in advance), which sounds amazing. It's a smaller place, but it's cozy, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the service was excellent. I been craving a Chicago deep dish. But I can't help but compare to unos (which I know is a chain). The pizza is good but just too cheesey for me personally. I like a lot more sauce and fillings besides the cheese. The crust wasn't flakey and crispy. I wouldn't get another deep dish from them personally. But there was another couple there who was loving it ! The waitress was very attentive. The beer was cold. The French onion soup was pretty good as well! Would have liked more onions though. For about a week I've been craving a Chicago-style pizza, despite never having been to Chicago . Regardless, I searched places near me that sold this style of pizza and stumbled on this resturant. I ordered online in advance as the website mentioned it takes up to 1 hour to cook. Exactly on the projected time it was coming out the oven and I was pleasantly greeted by the staff with my box. The restaurant was not full at 4:30 p.m., but I can imagine it being a great place for dinner due to its sultry atmosphere . I rushed to my car to get home and I must say my meal did not disappoint. Hubby's birthday, he's been dying for Chicago style deep dish pizza. Placed an order around 3:20pm, it was customized- added, pineapple, pepperoni, black olives, feta, mushrooms-side of basil and ricotta-hubby forgot those ingredients. Added side of Cesar salad. Service is great! They are accommodating and forthcoming of the time it takes for the everything to get ready "40-1hr". No biggy, I'm on my day off and running errands. This was take out. So i walked in to pick up the food. The place is pretty. I'd visit for a sit down. Ambiance feels intimate. Deep Dish Review: meh. Maybe it's because I heated it up again as it was for dinner. Nothing against the business, so many rate it good so perhaps its just our palettes are not jiving. This restaurant is awesome! I love the charm and warmth. We chatted with Daisy, the owner. She is very down to earth and was happy to talk about some of the dishes they offer. I ordered a beer that is Polish. This was my first time trying Polish beer and it was delicious. We ordered garlic rolls and they were so good. They were not too oily. I loved the garlic and parmesan cheese flavor. I couldn't decide between thr lasagna and penne a la vodka. I chose the lasagna because I love my sauce and I just thought it looked so good in the photos on Yelp. And it was. I am very picky about lasagna and this one is excellent. I think it is the best one I have ever eaten. The cheese was delectable. The sauce was so fresh and had a vibrant taste. No pork in the meat in the lasagna, only beef. I tasted my friend's son's pizza. He loved it and I am surprised because it had a lot of oregano. I thought it was just ok but was very impressed with how large a kid's pizza is. He gets to have half at school tomorrow. Lucky him! He also loved the fresh lemonade he ordered. My friend loved her spaghetti and meatballs. I tried the meatball and that is something else I am picky about. I liked the meatball a lot. I was so happy when Daisy brought out a pistachio cannoli for my upcoming birthday. This cute and cozy Italian place became a special restaurant to our family. Il Baretto is family owned and has lots of charm and amazing dishes! The staff were so kind and made our dinners perfect. We had the chicken parmigiana which was so tender and the pasta was fresh. The gravy made the dish topped with parmigiana cheese and a dash of arugula. Back in the 1990s, I lived and worked in Chicago, where I fell in love with authentic Chicago-style pizza--thin crust, stuffed, and deep dish. When I moved to South Florida, I spent years searching for that same quality and flavor but came up empty. Then I found Barreto's in Davie. For our 2026 St. Patrick's Day party, I kept telling friends this was the best Italian restaurant in South Florida. Most gave me the typical, "Yeah, sure... we'll see." So I ordered five thin-crust pizzas and three large deep-dish pizzas for the party. There was plenty of food, but every single pizza was gone within an hour. That alone should tell you something. I live in the Boca Raton/Delray Beach area, and it's a 30-minute drive each way to Davie. We gladly make that trip because we honestly believe Barreto's serves the best Chicago-style thin crust, deep dish, and some of the best overall Italian food in South Florida. Whenever possible, we enjoy eating in the restaurant because nothing beats a pizza that's fresh out of the oven. But even when we order takeout, we pack insulated pizza bags, drive the hour round trip, and bring it home. It's absolutely worth it. We've served Barreto's pizza and Italian food at birthday parties, family gatherings, and even as a Thanksgiving backup meal. It has never disappointed. My friends gently nudged the wife and I to try this Italian restaurant that serves authentic Chicago style pizza. Almost every table in the cozy restaurant was occupied, which was a good sign. We had the privilege to meet the owner, Deisy, who was a little ball of fire and chatted about some of their specialty items. We ordered the Chicago pizza and mussels with a refreshing arugula gorgonzola salad. While we waited for our meal we consumed red wine and Italian San Gabriel beer. Noticed the two large wall monitors playing a loop video of Italy which enhanced the strong traditional Italian theme throughout. The glass tip jar at the food pick up counter was full of assorted wine corks and US currency which was a nice touch. The server was very attentive and provided everything for the anticipated feast, which was on the table within twenty minutes. The New Zealand mussels were large and tasted great but the Chicago pizza was superb with a memorable thick crust. So much cheese! Absolutely loved this place. My family has been raving about it for some time and we finally had a chance to all go together. The burrata salad was so good with the balsamic glaze and arugula. I'm not much of an arancini fan but these were great. Not much rice and still juicy as you cut through them. I was pleasantly surprised. Both risottos were out of this world and probably some of the best that I've ever tried. And the stuffed pizza was the star of the show. The slices are so thick that 1 is more than enough, so I'm happy to say we have leftovers which I can't wait to dig into later. The pizza was so flavorful as we got one with fresh garlic and basil, and the other one with sausage and meatballs. It was a Sunday night so not too busy, but you have to make sure and call ahead for the stuffed pizza because they take about an hour to make. Our waiter was great and attentive. Could not wait all day for the Chicago pizza at this quaint Italian restaurant in Plantation. Parking is abundant and the restaurant is clean with lots of tables for the small size of the place. Love the atmosphere of this small cozy restaurant. I ordered a thin cheese pizza but it was not something I would order again. The crust was tough and chewy. The only flavor that stood out was Parmesan cheese. The Parmesan was so prominent I couldn't taste the sauce, mushrooms, onions and sausage. Never found the pepperoni I ordered either. This is a small restaurant in a strip mall, but it appears the locals like it, so we decided to try their deep dish Chicago style pizza. We had 5 adults so we ordered the large, which had 8 slices...but that was plenty! My daughter and I could only eat one slice, and my husband and 2 sons each ate 2 slices and we were all very full. At $50 it seemed pricey for a pizza, but since it served 5 people it was not bad. And it was very delicious, too! It's a tiny restaurant so not much on ambiance, but good food and good service trumps ambiance in my opinion. We had dinner this evening at IL BARETTO. We shared mussels fra diavolo over spaghetti. Terrific balanced sauce tossed with large meaty mussels over perfectly cooked pasta. DELICIOUS. We also couldn't resist the Chicago deep dish pizza - sooo yummy. The small size was enough for an army. (We called in advance to preorder). Finished our meal with chocolate fudge cake. Yes, our diets begin again tomorrow, but don't regret a bite! Our server was wonderful. This is a gem of a restaurant. Highly recommend. This is a casual, family run Italian bistro in a strip mall across the street from the Broward Mall in Plantation. My girlfriend and I were drawn by the consistently good reviews the restaurant receives on the Let's Eat, South Florida Facebook group page so we decided to meet up for dinner. The restaurant is quite small so reservations are recommended. The dinning room is tastefully decorated and there is an open kitchen. Popular dishes include spaghetti and homemade meatballs and lasagna but we decided to indulge in the deep dish pizza which is the casserole of pizzas. A buttery, flaky crust is topped with dense mozzarella, meat, and vegetables and a thin tomato sauce. Be prepared to dig in with a knife and fork. It was so filling that I could only eat one slice. While delicious that night, it was even better the next day for lunch. Everyone at work was asking me where I got it from. We also ordered the heavenly garlic rolls and a crisp Caesar salad. I really enjoyed everything I ate here. After seeing some of the other enticing dishes coming out of the kitchen I definitely want to come back and next time leave room for dessert. We were looking for somewhere with deep dish pizza and so happy we found this place. Small hidden restaurant in the corner of a plaza. It was a stormy week night so business was quiet and we received excellent service. The deep dish was delicious- very cheesy, excellent crust, I wish there was a little more sauce for the amount of cheese but the flavor was amazing. On a slow night it took about 35 minutes for the deep dish to cook so on a busy night it would probably be closer to an hour so don't be in a rush. We can't wait to go back and try the homemade pasta dishes. read more
