ACOCA Cafe & Roastery -- Apparently Appleton got hipster while I was gone…read more Came back to my old stomping grounds for HS reunion week and somehow ended up having one of the most interesting breakfasts of the trip. ACOCA immediately gives off that independent coffeehouse/artsy/creative energy you don't necessarily expect when you're remembering the Appleton of your younger days. We all ordered the Bagels & Lox with salad, and I'm not gonna lie ~ that plate looked damn good. Fresh lox, colorful veggies, pickled onions, greens and an everything bagel. Add some quality coffee and you've got yourself a pretty solid morning. The space was spotless, the service was friendly, the drinks were good and the atmosphere was genuinely cool. But let's talk $$$. This was the priciest morning meal we had in Appleton, and one person in our group felt the price was a little high considering you have to put the sandwich together yourself, and only one of us was given a small ramekin of salad dressing accompanying our meal. Also we wish the bagel was slightly toasted instead of just a sliced everthing bagel. Still, I'd rather pay a little more occasionally for a place with personality than eat somewhere completely forgettable. ACOCA definitely has personality. Would I return? Absolutely!!! This is more my vibe for morning eats & cold/hot brew (Coffee/tea) that is Brews. Views. Food. Sometimes the journey takes you somewhere that doesn't involve beer.

Really awesome vibe in here. There's a lot of open space and really neat decor all over the walls…read more There is a ton of seating. What is really cool is up by the front they have some old wagon wheels that have been turned into tables. There are plenty of food items as well as pastries so no shortage on things to eat here. They also have a good variety of coffees from drip to pour over espresso. You name it. I got a blueberry muffin and a vanilla latte. The blueberry muffin is full of blueberries, super moist and delicious. The vanilla latte is spot on perfectly made. If you're in the area, I highly recommend coming over here.

Quick rundown: Tasty food options, patient staff who are…read morehappy to explain anything to you. Slow walk-down: My friend and I had been burned and left wanting after a less than fruitful visit to another establishment earlier in the day...(see: my review of Lou's Brew Cafe). So we were hungry, parched, and looking for a quiet and cool respite from the raucous Mile of Music-ing. Maybe because we were already so low and just happy for anything, but I was truly very pleased with our visit here. Since they weren't hosting any concerts, it was pretty empty and quiet. Also it was, I think, within an hour of their closing time, but they didn't try to rush us out and did not make us feel like we were being difficult. And...we might have been a bit difficult. My friend had a lot of questions, specific dietary needs, and is pregnant so has some very specific wants. None of which is bad. Just sometimes...businesses and workers can get annoyed with even a single question. But here they did not. They were full of information and happy to share it, never hesitating to offer a recommendation or answer a question. Thank you for your patience and friendliness! I got an iced coffee of some kind. I don't know which one specifically...but I know it was delicious and it certainly hit the spot. I also got a piece of quiche. They had a looooong list of available kinds of quiche, they all looked delicious, so I just told them to choose one and surprise me. It was a little strange to see it delivered with grill lines on it, but I think they just used a panini press to heat it up. Which...hey, good use of existing kitchen tools! And it made the crust less soggy than one that was heated up in the microwave. It doesn't change the taste, and it was delicious. It also came served with some apple slices, which was a nice, tasty, refreshing surprise. My family members have a deep love for Copper Rock for coffee and breakfast foods. But I gotta tell ya....*whispers* I think Brewed Awakenings is betterrrrr! Give 'em a shot!

Service attitude and cleanliness are not good. Baked good was dry and should've been warmed up.read more
