Finally, got a chance to try ramen at Ikkyu Ramen in Boca (located in Shadowood Square next to Dave's Hot Chicken). Small but nicely decorated inside. There are bar seatings, inside tables as well as outside seatings. Menu is pretty straightforward, 3-4 types of broth for ramen, fried rice, yakisoba, appetizers boba milk teas and couple of desserts. You'll either have to order using the QR code at the table or order and pay at the register. We ordered one Taro boba milk tea, the steamed chicken gyoza, the karaage (fried chicken), tonkutsu ramen with the chicken katsu upcharge, and spicy tonkutsu ramen. Both the appetizers were pretty quick to come out with a nice spacing between for the ramen. The broth of both ramen were very rich and tasty!! Good amount of ramen and meat. And the taro milk tea was good and not too sweet. My daughter love the ramen here!! We will be back!! read more

The ambiance is nice and clean but that might be the only highlight about this place. We ordered boba with less ice and received drinks that are not even completely full. They also do not make any modifications like adding real milk or anything. It was also odd that they add milk to some of their drinks but would not replace dehydrated milk with real milk if requested. We even asked if we can buy milk on the side, and they told us that is not possible. They were not accommodating for any requests, unlike almost every boba place we have been to (or restaurants that sell boba). Overall, service was not great and not very welcoming. The server looked like she didn't want to be there. This is more of a casual place so they don't come to you to take your order. You order in the front and then wait for your food at a table if there is space available. We also ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen and stir fry yaki chicken udon noodles. The egg in the ramen was over cooked and not runny like you would typically expect in the ramen. But other than that, it was flavorful. I wish I could say the same for the yaki udon noodles but they weren't as flavorful as I expected. It was only the milder/blander side. I added pepper, Sriracha and chili oil to enhance the flavor and that made it taste a bit better. Overall the food was average at best. My boyfriend and I had a casual dinner date at Ikkyu and loved it! It is a small and intimate restaurant with not much seating, but it's very nicely decorated and feels very cozy. We started off with a Mango Milk Tea which I absolutely loved. I'd say it's one of the best I've had and would definitely order again. We also ordered Takoyaki, which we order often and found Ikkyu's to be so delicious. Also would order these again! Our ramen was delicious. The serving sizes are great and I was stunned by how tender the pork was. It melted in your mouth and was so tasty. Service was great as well. It is a more casual environment, but the waitress ensured we had what we needed. Everything was brought out to us warm too. Prices overall seemed reasonable for the quality of the food. Overall, I was very happy with our experience and am so happy to have found this spot! Really hoping to go back again soon, especially as the weather gets chillier. read more

I got Ikkyu Ramen for take out. I walked inside to pick up my order. I ordered the miso ramen with extra chicken and egg. I also ordered edamame as an appetizer. The quality of ramen was fantastic. I had a separate tub with the broth to pour in when I got home. The noodles were well cooked and soft. I loved the bean sprouts also. There was tons of parking in the parking lot. Was very easy to get a good parking spot. The interior design was colorful and had Japanese writing and design. It was spacious and quiet. I will definitely be getting ramen from here again!! The Tokyo Shoyu Ramen featured a thin water like broth that only had salt as a distinct flavoring and it seemed like no effort went into preparing this Ramen. A vegan dish was almost as bad and that too was dumped. This was delivered so I'm not sure what the restaurant experience would be like but it's not like the food would be any different - at least in prep and quality. Absolutely love this place. The sauces are delicious and tofu is always perfectly cooked. It's so hard to find places that cook tofu well so this place is a blessing. I ordered the sweet and sour tofu however forgot to take a picture due to how good it was. I asked if they hand make their sauce and would be willing to sell a cup of it and they will! Had a nice dinner here before watching a movie. The interior is clean with minimalist decor, but limited seating for small groups. It was a large portion at a fair price, and one of the better ramen spots I've tried in the area. Great Umami flavor with the spice building as you keep eating. My husband had the stir fry yaki ramen, which was equally large, but according to him my dish was the better of the two. I made room for dessert and ordered a taiyaki and taro milk tea for the road. The milk tea was good, but I could have passed on the taiyaki. It was not the large fish shaped cake I was expecting and it was a bit greasy. My first experience here was great! My second, bad. As you can see in one photo, the ramen is delicious with tender marinated pork. I had some sake which was also very good. However, when I just went here again, it was a totally different experience. The pork charshu was tough and had no flavor. The ramen soup was light and fishy, not robust with pork and umami flavor. I ordered it spicy and could not tell if it had any chili flavor at all. Not to mention the waiter forgot about my order and then my table completely, which I can overlook if the food is good, but it wasn't. The manager was extremely friendly and accommodating, and refunded me 15$.... But considering the meal was 25$ , I ended up paying 10$ for a sprite... I'll try this spot again and hopefully the pork charshu will be like how it was before. read more

Decided to give Ikkyu another chance for their lunch menu. Usually we go to ramen lab for the ramen but decided to try the ramen here. I ordered the Tonkatsu ramen and chicken karaage which looked great at first sight. The chicken was extremely fatty and the Tonkatsu broth was more of a miso broth and was very watered down. Tonkatsu or port bone broth normally has a whitish color not the brown miso color. Very disappointing and the food once again was like warm at best. One photo (dark brown broth) is of my tonkatsu ramen broth (after I ate the noodles). Should have taken the photo sooner but forgot. Other photo (lighter broth) is what an actual tonkatsu ramen broth normally looks like. Not much flavor either. read more

A great hole-in-the-wall ramen spot! Between my and friends, we got the crispy pork belly bao buns (YUM!), spicy tonkotsu, miso tonkotsu, and the classic tonkotsu. All were really flavorful and delicious, a great size, and just the right amount of spice. We also enjoyed some sake and Sapporo's. Even though the dining area wasn't huge, this is just what I expect and like from a small ramen shop; intimate, the basics that are spot on in terms of taste and quality, and a cute ramen bar. Decided to come here for dinner during Christmas Eve since it was the only thing near me open. Really lovely place to be honest. I enjoyed my classic tonkatsu but I will admit that the broth needs a bit of seasoning. Or something to make it taste a bit better girlfriend says that it is the noddles. I will also say that she LOVED the vegetable dumplings. Overall I enjoyed it but the broth was a bit off. The service was a bit of self serve and a bit not. What I got was something very different lol, very clear broth that seemed as if they tried to make up the flavor by just adding more black garlic. Pork was flavorless. Noodle ratio to the size of the bowl, I took 3 bites and was out of noodles lol. Everything was just okay. The ordering - which you do through a QR code, the food, and the service. Ikkyu was the perfect spot for a low-key, cold Friday night. This is the definition of a local noodle bar. It's not very big--the place has about five tables and a bar area with additional seating. You have to order before you can sit down. The menu includes other hot foods, but I was only in the mood for soup. I tried the spicy chicken soup, and it did not disappoint. The flavors were amazing, and the boba tea with lychee was very refreshing. I believe the restaurant is run by a family because they made it feel very homey. I give it 4 stars just because of how long it took to get our food. I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu. read more

Delicious ramen! I went with the Japanese Curry with pork chashu (pork belly) and scallions, a marinated egg, corn, and bean sprouts. This reminds me of the noodle bowls so popular in Wisconsin on those dreary 20 degree days. This will be even better in the cooler days ahead of August. I've been around just long enough to have visited the 2 restaurants that occupied this space prior. Imagine my joy when realized a Japanese restaurant would take the baton. Ikkyu features your classic menu favorites: ramen and rice bowls, along with small dishes like takoyaki and boa buns. Of course how can we forget the beloved milk teas. I happened to stop by the very day it opened, even before the banner went up and the interior decoration was installed. At that time i remember trying a ramen dish and not being too happy. I did not hold it against them at all, it was a chaotic time to visit a restaurant. Over the year I've since visited a few times, and there are definitely some good things going on here. Takoyaki- easily the best I've ever had. Crispy, Tender, juicy, flavorful. It's simply perfect. Crispy boa bun- I've had a lot of boa buns in my life, but never anything like this. Crispy deep fried bun? This actually feels blasphemous! It's a whole new way to enjoy an already great dish. To be fair, my chicken fell short of the mark due to the breading not holding. And the entire thing could benefit from a sauce of some sort. But overall it's wildly creative and it absolutely works. black Tonkotsu ramen - and big bowl of ramen with all the elements. Plenty of chasu, nicely thin noodles, corn, bamboo, fried onions and scallions. The broth itself is ok. The sesame flavor comes through, but missing that umami that often takes a broth over the top. Still a pretty good bowl. Ikkyu isn't perfect but it's good quality Japanese at a fair price point. Any Japanese restaurant is a welcomed site in my eyes. read more

I was craving ramen and looked up places in the area with good reviews and it lead us to here. The staff was nice and everything came out in a good timely manner. They have a really good selection of different boba which I ended up getting the mango yogurt boba with lychee jelly. It was delicious! They have a good menu between their appetizers, ramen, fried rice and fried noodles! I ordered the spicy tonkontsu and even though it wasn't as spicy as I like things to be spicy, it was very flavorful! My friend ordered the combo curry fried rice. The portion was bigger than we thought it would be and the aroma was heavenly. We both truly enjoyed our meal! The waitress lacks basic costumer service and host skills. There was a larger party with children that were allowed to run throughout the entire restaurant including the where staff is serving preparing bar drinks and food. The children then sat at the bar next to me and me fiancé then started play fighting. The waitress never said anything to the parents. I love that the kid's menu items (some lunch menu items serve double duty, such as teriyaki chicken) because most ramen spots I've been to don't have any kids items. It's not on the menu but they'll do a bowl of broth and noodles for kids if they don't want all the "fixin's" for less than the price of the regular bowls. We also got a taro milk tea boba which was delicious. The service was really wonderful as well. It was just one young woman working in the front of house but she was hustling.
