Mentaiko Mazemen.

We knew Iki Ramen from a friend who's been a regular there and he had plenty of stuffs from the menu he recommended. Apparently Iki Ramen was popular not only for their ramen but also mazemen and sushi rolls. Call us lucky, I thought we just arrived at perfect timing, right before the venue suddenly got busy and the line started to form. The petite space with dim lighting did remind us of local Japanese restos vibes. We got couple of their favorites, the Mentaiko Mazemen and the Iki Rolls. Both were on the creamy side, which was perfect when shared. The Mazemen was more like creamy pasta but with ramen base for us. We love the sauce, the Ramen texture, but would prefer if it carried more protein. We even thought of ordering sides protein to accompany it. Whereas for the rolls, it was just flawless. Came with rich stuffing and literally felt like melt in our mouths especially that aburi sauce on top.

You gotta love LA for the hidden gems you can find in so many strip malls around town. Iki Ramen's Koreatown location is one such spot, an oasis of serenity and deliciousness just behind its door. I briefly wanted to gate-keep IKI bc it's a small restaurant but of course I'm not! I originally went to the Hollywood location for ramen, which was delicious and comforting but not too heavy. But I definitely left wanting to come back for all the sushi that was also on the menu. And am I glad I did! Fresh fresh is a must and a given. You can start w appetizers like the well-salted edemame, miso black cod, or the house made, uniquely delicious MISO SOUP. Then take your pick from the many hand/cut rolls, signature rolls and sashimi offerings. They even have a few Bao "sandwiches" w ebi katsu, soft shell crab, pork and others. But DO NOT skip the IKI GRAB HANDROLLS! Especially the PREMIUM one! The nori comes stacked separately from the mounds of rice and fish (or wagyu beef or scallops) so that you can leisurely (without worry of your nori getting soggy) put together your handroll. They were kind enough to cut each well portioned handroll "stuffing" into twos bc we were splitting it. Each one was incredible!!! The light touch of sauce/ seasoning is in perfect harmony with the fish/beef/scallops and absolutely melts in your mouth. Don't forget to save a little room for their delicious desserts. My favorite was the not-too-sweet black sesame crème brûlée. The minimal concrete & wood decor plus the attentive but not hovering and friendly service lets you focus on the food. I cannot gosh enough about what is now, for sure, my FAVORITE SUSHI RESTAURANT in Los Angeles!! They recently opened Iki Nori also in Hollywood and I can't wait to try that one too!

Cute little ramen place in the heart of Koreatown. Though there are hundreds ramen places around the area, this place provides an intimate setting and tasty, high quality of dishes that are worth a try. We went with a bigger group even though they had limited space. I appreciate their hospitality and willingness to accommodate to our party. We ordered many rolls and sashimi dishes. My personal favorite was the salmon burrata. Creamy, tangy, and fresh. I also enjoyed the Wagyu ramen. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! This place is amazing for their ramen but also their delicious sushi. I would come again for a future date!

First off, this order was placed through Uber Eats. It was prepared quickly and without any error. Here's a run down of my experience: Mentaiko Mazemen: In my opinion, the star of the night and my favorite of all the things we ordered. Good portion size and easily divisible between 2 people. Very tasty! If you aren't a fan of seafood, I'd pass since it has a subtle fishy taste to it (probably due to the fish eggs). Crispy Tuna: Very close second to my favorite of the night! The rice was very crispy and warm when it was delivered. I recommend! Spicy Tuna: No complaints! Standard spicy tuna roll that lived up to my expectations. Shrimp Tempura: This was more my fiend's pick since I'm not super interested in shrimp tempura incorporated into sushi. However, this was pretty tasty. Overall, the bill ordered thru Uber Eats totaled around $80 not including tip which is pretty steep for 4 items. However, given that delivery apps usually up charge, this wasn't a total shock. All I can say is that the food exceeded expectation and I would be interested in ordering here again.

I know this is called Iki Ramen but I have yet to try ramen at this restaurant. The sushi is soooo good and fresh! My husband really enjoyed the Uni Mazemen. I would share this dish, it is very rich and filling. Will definitely come back when I'm in the mood to splurge. Parking is awful. They have a lot but it's always packed. Street is always packed. That's LA for you.

Came here feeling a little under the weather, so I ordered the shoyu ramen with chicken broth for myself. My partner ordered the uni pasta, and it had no business being so damn good. It was creamy, sprinkled with some roe, and cooked to al dente perfection. Oh yeah, my ramen. It was light and delicious, with four pieces of chasu. No complaints, it's a good ramen. We also had crispy rice tuna as an appetizer, it wasn't as crunchy as we'd like but otherwise it's good. Decor is cozy, service is good. Would recommend.

*** No cash accepted *** Iki Ramen is an upscale ramen & sushi shop located in Koreatown. This space used to be Saint Martha. One of four founders, Jeffrey Undiarto, used to work at n/naka as General Manager and Sommelier. Currently there's another Iki Ramen location in Hollywood as well as two sister restaurants - Iki Nori in Hollywood and Akami Sushi in Arcadia. They try to source the most humanely raised and organic meats as possible. [Parking]: Valet parking within the strip mall for $4 or street metered parking. I did metered parking on 7th St and our party wasn't entirely comfortable walking to back to our cars after sunset so I recommend just paying for valet parking. [Check-in & reservation]: Visitors can join their waitlist on the Yelp app and they will send out a text message when tables are ready. The last call is 30 minutes prior to closing. They also accept reservation on Tock and visitors can even book their $150 per person omakase course. [Atmosphere]: Modern and sleek interior decor. You know the shop gave an upscale vibe when our waiter asked us the following question - still water or sparking water? 20% auto gratuity is applied to table with 5 or more guests. [Menu]: The top Yelp recommended ramen options are Burnt Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen, Yuzu Shio Ramen, and Tonkotsu Ramen. The remaining 75% items on the menu range from donburi (rice bowls), nigiri, sashimi (e.g. Salmon Burrata), handrolls, cut or signature rolls, baos, and appetizers (e.g. Crispy Rice Tuna and Takoyaki). They also post daily special on a wall which include tasting menu for 2 = $120. *** Burnt Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen (rich, shoyu seasoned pork broth, burnt garlic oil, pork chashu, seasoned egg, wood ear mushrooms, corn, scallions, nori - $23): S-tier melt-in-your-mouth pork belly and very creamy broth. Quite an expensive ramen, but it was one of those few cases that you get what you pay for. Salmon Burrata (scottish salmon, fresh burrata cheese, pickled cherry tomato, yuzu, olive oil, honey truffle, sea salt - $18): Decent sashimi, but not sure if it was actually worth the price. *** S-tier tonkotsu ramen, but I am going to knock a star down due to hefty price tags on non-ramen dishes. This is a great ramen shop for anyone who doesn't too much about prices and simply want a premium ramen & sushi experience.

Crispy Rice Tuna, IKI Roll, Salmon Burrata

Easily one of my favorites in Ktown. I would regularly go to their handroll bar in Hollywood, but was told about this place because the bar was closed one day. Thank goodness, because I live 5-10 minutes away from here. Items I've tried: Premium hand roll, uni and mentaiko mazemen, crispy tuna rice, iki roll, squid legs, and salmon burrata. Absolute favorites: Aburi truffle salmon hand roll, crispy tuna rice, iki roll, and salmon burrata. I don't know anywhere else that has the salmon burrata dish, but it's perfect. I crave it and can eat it endlessly. The flavors are so harmonious, light, and fresh. I took my friends here and the salmon burrata was a highlight, they loved it. I'm also really glad that they give it as sashimi slices... I saw that they originally gave it in a bowl with chopped salmon-- not a fan of that. I hope they never change it or get rid of it. I wouldn't mind getting 3 servings and having it as a meal. Salmon burrata is a must try! Iki roll & aburi truffle salmon hand roll, wow. Their aburi truffle hand roll is the reason why their hand roll bar became my favorite. Their wagyu hand roll is really flavorful too, but their aburi salmon is chef's kiss. I really love the aburi salmon dishes in Canada, it's really popular there, but I haven't found ones that satisfy me here in California. The aburi salmon here is exactly the flavor and consistency I want. Crispy rice tuna is different everywhere you go. For me, it's a must order if I see it on the menu. So, I've had a lot of different kinds. Sometimes they're too big, sauce is off, rice isn't fried properly, etc. but Iki's is consistently yummy. I've also had it delivered, and even though the rice got a little soggy, it still hit the spot. All in all, 10/10!!! I could have Iki multiple times in a week, it's that good. So glad this place is near me. I'll be dreaming of the salmon burrata until my next visit.

For some reason, they my guy and me there were no tables in the main room and sat us at the bar instead. It would've been understandable if they hadn't sat the next two walkin parties in there. We started with an Eel Bao each. These were drowning in sauce and caused the whole thing to be too sweet. Unfortunate because they are pricey. For mains, I got the Burnt Garlic Tonkotsu dubbing bamboo shoots for corn (clear winner off the night for overall flavor) and my guy got the Truffle Butter (the egg tasted better in this dish). Very sad, tiny piece of seaweed in each and the noodles were only okay. Overall, extremely pricey for the little amount you get. I wouldn't come back

Michelle D.

The food here is very fresh, and the quality of the fish and meat really stands out. It's definitely worth trying at least once, especially for the hand roll experience--that was the highlight for me. You actually get to make the rolls yourself, which was fun and unique! It reminded me of an elevated version of Doraku in some ways--more refined, but with a similar vibe. That said, I do think the prices are a bit on the higher side for what you get. Still, if you're looking for something new and a bit interactive, this spot is worth checking out.

Haven't been to Iki in a while so decided to go today due to a strong craving. The food and service are still exceptional! I arrived right when they opened for lunch and was greeted and seated immediately. It did start picking up as I was dining, so glad I made it in early! I ordered their Iki Grab Handroll - omg so yummy - and my usual Mentaiko Mazemen - still as good! Of course the only caveat is parking. I got lucky in finding a spot but def worth a visit.

Located in Koreatown with some parking outside, but not a huge lot. There was a sign that reservations and the waitlist should be used, but I was able to get seated immediately as a solo diner. The restaurant was only around half full at 6:30pm on a Wednesday. Interior is very cozy, with plenty of warm wood colors and decoration. Pretty nice for a date night, or in my case, I wanted to read more of novel I was getting through without too much distraction while enjoying a meal. I liked the staff here. Service was quick, with the servers friendly and attentive throughout my visit. I felt welcome and taken care of. I ordered the salmon cucumber roll, burnt garlic tonkotsu, and matcha dessert to finish. The salmon cucumber roll was really good. Fresh fish, great texture and would definitely get it again. The ramen was just so-so. The burnt garlic was a little overpowering (should have chosen something else in hindsight), the chasu was just okay with it lacking some flavor. I did love the noodle texture: IKI nailed it. I ordered another roll, their eel cucumber and it was also superb. The matcha dessert was pretty nice, and I'm glad they offer dessert as an option. Strangely enough, go for the sushi/rolls here. They were far better than the ramen despite the restaurant having "ramen" in the name.

This restaurant is cute and has more of a nicer, cleaner, and refined space where eating while talking is enjoyable and possible. I enjoyed my sushi and ramen. It was good but what gets to me is the price. It felt a bit too steep because I was missing the "wow". The quality was on point but I believe there is sushi and ramen options I can go to that is more than a fraction of the cost to dine here. The service was slow when I was here and took a long time for the food to come out. It was a busy night which I assumed was the reason. I would come back again but only if I'm in the area and if I want a more relaxed place to have some sushi and catch up with friends.

The unadon, hamburger steak, and curry udon were all really good, but the yakitori skewers tended to be disappointing. The Tsukune was dry, the Negima was quite bland. The Miso Black Cod was also quite overdone, became quite rubbery when served and also was cold. Overall, I would not come back again, or recommend it. It was as good as I remembered, and probably even better. I can't imagine letting another eight and a half years pass without going back. The only negative is that parking is either difficult or $15, which feels bad in a pretty quiet residential area. Better to take a car in any case, so you can enjoy the extensive selection of sakes. We shared a full-sized bottle, I forget which but I think it was a junmai daiginjo, and it was lovely. Tsubaki is such a nice, welcoming little izakaya. Service is great, the atmosphere warm and easy. You just want to sit back and drink at a leisurely pace. The food is excellent, with a robust menu of creative Japanese food. We shared everything, starting with a stellar kanpachi crudo with ume ponzu, shiso, sweet onion and habanero pickles, and furikake. My favorite dish of the night was the tsukune katsu. I love tsukune, the tare-glazed chicken meatballs you'll find in any yakitori place. This was my first time having them in katsu form, panko-fried and served over cabbage with Kewpie mayo and tonkatsu sauce. The chawanmushi was delicious, silky steamed egg custard topped with Dungeness crab, truffle salt, and mitsuba. Likewise the kinoko tempura, an array of maitake, shiitake, and enoki mushrooms fried light and crispy, with yuzu shichimi and tentsuyu for dipping. We got a skewer of bonchiri from the yakitori menu, delightfully chewy bites of charcoal-grilled jidori chicken tail. Finally, a plate of yakisoba, pan-fried noodles with house-cured Peads & Barnetts char siu, pickled green garlic, and cracklin. We got the hojicha parfait, and it was more or less my ideal dessert. Roasted green tea soft serve with sesame black sugar burnt miso and candied walnuts with cornflake dust. Cold, light, sweet. I could eat a whole one by myself pretty much any time. After nine years in business, Tsubaki feels like an Echo Park institution, and the kitchen is as strong as ever. This was a wonderful dinner, one I hope to repeat soon, with more sake, more yakitori, and more hojicha parfait.

It's quite small inside and they happen to have a few tables outside. I have mixed feelings about the service though but it is what it is, just feel like we weren't attended properly and service was slower. The menu has tons of options, there is something for everyone. Unfortunately the rice balls I wanted to try were sold out for the night- which how do you run out of something popular at a 7 PM dinner? Anyway, we had the fried tempura, garlic fried rice, short ribs, and chicken oysters. Everything was delicious and I would get these dishes again. But my standouts were the short ribs, they were tender and the marinade was light and fresh. The fried tempura was another standout for me because the sauce paired so well with the lightly friend asparagus. And I'm going to to say the chicken oysters- I think they were grilled to perfection with a tiny bit of wasabi. It's so hard to pick, everything tasted amazing and you can tell everything is thoughtfully prepared and well crafted with a beautiful presentation. I really enjoyed the food here and will be back to try more items.
