We decided to go to IKEA on a Sunday. I know, I know, what we're we thinking? Wouldn't it be crazy busy? Well, we arrived just after it opened and while it was busy, it did not feel crowded.
We parked near the exit and then walked over to the entrance. This is all a mind game because essentially we are walking the same distance either way, but on the way out we will, in theory, be pushing a cart with our purchases, so we saved energy. Or at least this is what we tell ourselves. Told ya it was all a mind game.
We knew we were going to be making a Farley large purchase today as we needed a dining room table and Uncle Sam gave us our tax return. Let's be honest, we aren't the only ones spending more this time of year. :-)
We did this trip with our three year old and IKEA has a great kid area that was CLOSED TODAY, whomp, whomp, whomp. They were removing all the ball pit balls, not sure what that means for the future of the kids area.
It wasn't an easy trip, but he did pretty good helping us out. The hardest part about IKEA is it is basically a rat maze. Normally, I am okay with it, but with a toddler that needs to go potty every few minutes, it was not fun. There are short cuts and things, but toddlers are not known for their patience.
We managed to find a dining table, chairs, a curio, and two night stands. For under the price of just a table at a typical furniture store. We were bummed they only had this table in black as a brown color would have been better, but we will live.
When we checked out, we were able to save money from our lunch. Basically if you go eat at the restaurant before shopping, you "save" that same amount from a purchase over $100. Essentially, you get your meal for free!!! I am all about the free stuff!
We had Swedish meatballs meal, chicken meatballs meal, and chicken tender kid meal. They were all delicious!
Pro Tip: if you have a kid and need a bib, plastic utensils (smaller than their metal ones), a bottle warmer, microwave, or toaster, they have them all in their food court area upstairs! I have never seen this at any other food establishment and love it.
I was sad to see the kid friendly food area was no longer in the food court area. There used to be kids tables and a tv in a section where parents could sit at an adult table.
If you made it this far, kudos to you. I know that was a lot of random facts.
Here is another one, check out the "AS IS" area to the far right just before the check out area. There are many hidden diamonds in the rough there. Floor models for sale, or anything returned. I have found some great things there throughout the years.
One last tip! If you ever lose a screw, lose a dowel, need instructions, or a part gets damaged, you can get it from the parts area which is also at the guest services area. I have gotten these items sometimes free or for a very low cost. It is just past the cashier area on the right or to the left of coming in the exit.
Happy shopping! Ikea is truly an experience! read more
