My husband and I needed to pick up some items at IKEA a few weeks ago and thought, "Why not have brunch while we're there?!" It had been years since we had eaten at IKEA, and I'm not sure why, because it's actually still a very fun, delicious, and incredibly affordable meal. If you haven't been before, it's cafeteria-style, so you grab a tray and ask what for what you'd like. On this visit, we shared a bowl of mac and cheese (wildly affordable and surprisingly good) and a Swedish meatball plate (with fries and peas and gravy and lingonberry jam), which always hits the spot. It's simple and delicious, quick and affordable. So if you're at IKEA to do some shopping, don't miss a quick meal at the restaurant! Still a fun experience after all these years!

My friends wanted to eat here for breakfast as we were staying at a hotel nearby and it was walking distance. This was my first time eating at Ikea and I didn't really know what to expect. There was a line when we got there however it was fairly quick and the food was served hot and fresh. We got the Swedish meatball plate, breakfast plate and their pancakes/waffles. Overall it was decent for the price and taste. If you are nearby in the area and want something quick and simple to eat, go check out Ikea. Plus, you can walk around to burn off the calories by checking out their furniture afterwards ~

Salmon balls with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables $5.99

This was our first visit to the restaurant part, which is a cafeteria offering reasonably priced entrees. We tried the Swedish meatballs with 2 vegetables for $5.99 and salmon balls with 2 vegetables also for $5.99. Meatballs were good, but salmon balls were dry and bland. Hot coffee and tea are free with Ikea rewards card. This restaurant is smaller than the Ikea in College Park. But it is cleaner and less crowded. Good to come here for a healthy meal.

We are huge fans of Ikea's restaurant. You can't get a bigger bang for your buck anywhere. My husband and I can get a full meal for just around 20 bucks. I love that they recently added shrimp salad to their menu, particularly that it's sold without the croissant since I'm trying to eat low carb. I also love their almond cake. And I love cashing in on the free coffee that Ikea family members get. We come here faithfully basically every week!

    IKEA in Nottingham, Maryland.

I love IKEA. It is one of my happy places. The IKEA in Nottingham, Maryland is a great place to go for shopping. Lots of parking. Lots of home decor ideas. Most things are inexpensive but still nice quality. I have had a number of furniture items from IKEA over the years and they always hold up and are well constructed. I just really love their design aesthetic. They have clean restrooms. They have a restaurant and also a snack bar. If you join their e-mail loyalty program they will send nice coupons and gift certificates. I can't say enough nice things about IKEA.

    Swedish meatballs

Pros: + Swedish meatballs + Low prices + Overabundant seating + Fast service Cons: - Limited selection Every Ikea store has an in-house restaurant which serves things, like their signature Swedish meatballs, which comes with mashed potatoes, gravy, and lingonberry jam. You get 15 meatballs for $5.99, and for $1 more you can get 5 additional meatballs. It's such a great deal. The food is delicious and filling, and so cheap! This particular location has soooo much seating, I can't imagine it ever filling up to more than 25% capacity. The restaurant area is so quiet, it's really nice and relaxing to just eat here after a long hour or two of evaluating furniture. The only downside is that their selection of food is quite limited. But I mean come on, it's not really a stand-alone restaurant. You came here to look at furniture, right?

Wait... IKEA sells FURNITURE?!…read more Just kidding. But, I swear we come here for the restaurant more than the housewares these days! IKEA is known for lower cost DIY chairs and bookcases, but their in-store restaurant is not to be a missed. A destination in and of itself! Granted the prices have gone up significantly over the years (remember when a plate of meatballs was just five bucks, including the sides?!), but one has to make allowances for inflation of course. What I appreciated was that they now have multiple options for how large of a plate you want. They have different pricing for the number of meatballs you order. And they have a wider selection of items than ever before as well. I could drink my weight in lingonberry juice though, and no other place has it! That's the novelty that keeps me coming back. Their staff is usually friendly and helpful. Tables are self-bused, but it's a small task for a reasonably priced meal. For less than 10 bucks a person, it's still one of the best values in the area. Plus, the quality is almost always top notch. Well worth the stop, even if you don't need furniture!

Cafeteria was airy, plenty of sunlight shining in. The seating area had clean minimalist furniture. The food line was well organized with desserts on the side and mains in the back. Got a small breakfast with black coffee. For pocket change one can get breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs and 2 slices of bacon. Bacon was very crisp and not greasy. Eggs tasted like powder or box eggs but still good. Potatoes were cubed, fried till crispy and seasoned well. Coffee was good quality

Let's establish something upfront: this is a cafeteria. A furniture store cafeteria. And yet…read moresomehow it's outperforming half the "fast casual concepts" that have colonized every strip mall in America, which says everything about IKEA and absolutely nothing flattering about the rest of the industry. If my high school had been running this operation, I might have actually attended lunch instead of my daily ritual of despair and vending machine chips before AP Calculus. Solid soups. Texas toast that respects itself. A rotating cast of cold and warm dishes that -- brace yourself -- includes responsibly sourced seafood. In a place where you also buy flat-pack bookshelves. Now let's talk strategy, because eating here without intel is leaving money on the table. Those little gift cards in your IKEA advent calendar? Spendable on meatballs. You're welcome. Family card gets you free fountain drinks and coffee, which in this economy is practically a financial aid program. And if you wander toward the right tables, some have cableless phone charging stations built in -- because IKEA apparently thought of that while your favorite brunch spot still can't figure out how to make eggs over easy. Traveling with small children who have opinions? The restaurant is a legitimate tactical retreat. Food is simple enough to survive contact with a picky five-year-old, and there are interactive toy stations nearby to occupy whoever is about to lose it -- including, statistically, at least one adult. And finally: the lingonberry jam. You may dip anything you want into it here. Meatballs. Chicken strips. Texas toast. Existential dread. No one will stop you. No one will judge you. This is the one place on earth where the lingonberry is not a garnish but a governing philosophy, and honestly? That's more than most restaurants can say about anything on their menu.

A month later we still did not have the table. When I called the store, the customer service was poor, with folks blaming it on "the national crisis with drivers." One person was as rude as to say, "Maybe you have heard of this." I asked to speak to the manager, who is also the owner, Sean, and after my third call, he did finally call me back. Two weeks later--more than a month late from when it was first promised--the table was delivered. Without the parts necessary to assemble it. I was told by the driver it would take another "week or two" to get back over with the parts and to assemble. When I called Sean to describe the situation, he told me I should have accepted the table, and that "he would have worked out a solution." When I pointed out that I had lost faith in them, after several cancellations from the delivery service, and the table arriving a month late, his response, the ultimate passive-aggressive retort: "I am sorry you feel that way." Nice furniture. Snooty, pretentious, unaccommodating staff. I never write bad reviews. I feel bad for small business owners in this environment, and do acknowledge that getting deliveries is tough (though we had several other pieces of furniture and appliances delivered within a week from purchase), but there was really little effort spent in trying to resolve the problem other than making promises that were then broken.
