Eating a meal at IKEA was one of those small pleasures in life. The food may not have been haute cuisine, but it was affordable, enjoyable and if you were adventurous there was more on the menu than the Swedish meatballs. All I can say is today's experience was a massive disappointment. Yes, I opted for the meatballs (now available in 8, 12, or 16 counts). They remain tasty. The rest of the experience was downhill. The mashed potatoes had zero flavor - I imagine drywall spackling isn't much better. Salt didn't help. Even the gravy that comes with the meatballs couldn't save the potatoes. The fruit flavored sodas had zero flavor. Perhaps they simply got the water/syrup mixture wrong? Lemon-lime came the closest to tasting like something, but I would have traded it for a Sprite. I'm not a big dessert fan, but the small selection available was just sad. Seriously. I counted about a dozen plates in the display case. They all looked like they'd been there since last Sunday. To give credit where due, the young lady serving the food was sweet and friendly. She was the bright spot in an otherwise sad experience. read more

I went to IKEA to pick up some food. The girl who packaged my food was very friendly. I purchased meatballs with marinara sauce, mashed potatoes, and steamed veggies, a salad, and cake. The meatballs and potatoes were decent but bland. It reminds me of hospital cafeteria kind of food. Now the salad was a little weird. It had sweet potatoes, peppers, and some suspect chicken. I tried to eat it, but one bite was all I could do. The texture was different than the chicken I'm used to, and this chicken definitely didn't go on any sunny vacations this year because it was pale!! I couldn't cock-a-doodle do it! The cake looked delicious!! I love cakeee!! It was colorful with several layers and a big slice, but it tasted like a bag of raw flour. I can't explain the weird taste, but I know I'd never get it again. The meatball meal was my top pick out of everything. They had several options to eat. There's a hot food section that's served cafeteria style and also a section with premade wraps, salads, and desserts that you can serve yourself. Downstairs they have hot dogs, pizza, and other snackie foods. The chocolate chip and sugar cookies were good!! The prices were decent as well...I think the cafeteria dining area is nice and pretty spacious. I like the store and the fact that you can grab food as well as shop. I have been hearing about these meatballs for a very long time so I was excited to finally try them. The restaurant inside Ikea is a brilliant idea and it's plenty big with lots of seating. It's cafeteria style so grab your tray. The menu is digital and above your head. They have kids meals, adult meals, salads and individual offerings like macaroni and cheese. You go through, pay, get your drink and silverware and sit. It seemed to be understaffed and lots of empty areas for food. We went with the meatball meal which is nice cause it comes with mashed potatoes, veggies and you pick the number of meatballs. We got 8. I think you can do 12 or 16 too. We also got the macaroni and cheese. The prices are reasonable. I was underwhelmed by the food. I didn't like the macaroni and cheese at all. The meatballs were just okay....I am trying to figure out all the fuss. Would I go out of my way to eat here....no. But if I was shopping I would stop. Like I said it's a great idea especially if you are with someone that doesn't like to shop. read more

Location and convenience are key. Having a dining hall within a humongous building with tons of home furnishings, goods, etc is prime. Being served good Swedish meatballs at reasonable price even tops it off. IKEA restaurant offers breakfast items like crepe with lingonberry jam, scrambled eggs, potatoes, etc. Their all day entrees are platters of Swedish meatballs, veggies, they even have riced cauliflower! Their dessert selection is wonderful. The chocolate cake divine with dense chocolate cream layers , very chocolatey but not extremely sweet. Service was great, not a line at all whether at the food line or cashier. Prices are better than reasonable. From their beverage center you get coffee, cocoa, and wide selection of sparkling fruit drinks like sparkling pear which was flavorful but a tad too sweet for me.The cool thing too is that steps away you can purchase the items that were served. read more

Ikea convert right here! After having a few well-used Ikea furniture pieces in our home for 4+ years now, I can testify that they deserve 5 stars across the board! Norfolk's Ikea is conveniently located near the airport, one turn off I-64. They have plentiful covered and flat-lot parking, specialty trailer parking, online order pickup spaces and spots to charge an electric vehicle. The entire store is clean, well-lit and organized. I will say with the amount of stuff they fit into their space, it is very easy to get lost inside. However, they have ample hanging signage and there seemed to be plenty of staff milling around that will point you in the right direction. The staff that we chatted with during our visit were friendly and helpful. We have been several times, but this was the first time going with our little one. Ikea is AWESOME for kids! At the entrance, there is a play space where you can check children in to get some wiggles out for an hour while you shop. Now, an hour is not nearly long enough for a trip to Ikea unless you know exactly what you're looking for and are not prone to getting off track. They even have a cool scavenger hunt for kids to shop alongside you while engaging in their own activity. On this trip, we were looking for storage ideas and inspiration. The pieces we've had for a while have stood up to plenty of wear and we love the prices and ability to customize many of their pieces. I love that they have sample rooms to experience and get some ideas and additional segmented spaces for certain needs like office furniture, kitchens, storage, kids spaces. The prices for the quality of furniture are awesome. Ikea seems to be very eco-conscious, building pieces with that in mind. We didn't purchase any furniture on this visit, but got some great ideas and some odds and ends on sale while we browsed. This was my first experience dining in as well. There was a short line around 12:30 on Sunday and it moved relatively quickly. The little one and I loved the meatballs (sans gravy) while hubby enjoyed salmon. The food was fresh and tasty and we ended up grabbing a bag of frozen balls to take home. They had some really neat foodie items to snag downstairs behind the registers, which is where you'll find some of the items they serve in the cafe upstairs. Overall, a great experience. No signs the kids' section was closed, yet an employee named Aisha handled it by aggressively kicking chairs near our table and loudly complaining instead of speaking to us directly. People always make fun of me because I go to Ikea all the time, not for the furniture but for the restaurant and food (sometimes furniture lol). Ikea's food is basically like "Swedish Cracker Barrel", comfort food with extremely cheap price. You can be full with drink, entree and dessert under $15. People are also chill, and sometimes they work under pressure due to short staff (I mean which restaurant doesn't nowadays), but they're trying their best so sometimes there might be a long line but no big deal for me. The food: Their famously known meatballs. It's just something special about them, that no other meatballs I get in the past taste the same as theirs. They're not fancy or anything (especially with that price!) but they're just unique. It comes with gravy and some jam, which are also unique and no other gravy and jam taste the same. Sometimes I just get 2 orders of meatballs and a fountain drink as my lunch, and it's like $5-6. The smoke salmon with salad and dill mustard dressing. I know the salmon is frozen but it's still tasted pretty decent, especially the portion with that price. The dressing is not everybody's favorite cuz my bf didn't like it, but I liked it. What I like the most about the Ikea restaurant is that you can try the food that they sell downstairs (across from the registers), and they're not charging too much at the restaurant so you can try them before you buy them. There were several options that looked very rough and dried out, especially the veggies meatballs. The peas were okay though they had definitely been sitting out a while and may have been freezer burnt at some point. The mashed potatoes were awful. Definitely boxed mashed potatoes. The cranberry sauce, Swedish meatballs, and gravy were delicious. Staff was friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed the layout of their facilities. I had a great day at IKEA. Went there to get some furniture for my home improvement project. Before shopping I felt hungry, so I took the opportunity to eat at the cafeteria. I got the 8 piece Swedish meatballs. They were really tasty especially with the jelly sauce. I also was able to try the mac n cheese which was yummy too! I drank lingonberry juice which was really good. My favorite was the strawberry shortcake for dessert. I also grabbed a bar of milk chocolate for later which I enjoyed as well. Staff were friendly and attentive. Prices were good. I was able to shop with a full belly. I got a day bed for my guest room and a nice desk with shelves. All came out exactly how I pictured. Despite loving this place for years I have avoided it like the plague. Simply because I have bone on bone osteoarthritis in both knees but when bestie rolled into town and wanted to go, I thought, let me give it a shot. Luckily enough for me my fellow Yelpers posted enough pics for me to know that should I be in pain and in need of a rest, there would be plenty of places to stop and sit. I love how their room vignettes are set up. They're laid out so far apart from one another that you don't feel overwhelmed or like you're in a giant furniture store. It's quite brilliant and I was very impressed with the layout and the quality of items. I really just went to have lunch and see what the fuss was all about but ended up spending $125 bucks on things I didn't know I needed til I got to Ikea. Hubby, bestie and I all had a full meal at lunch including dessert and a drink for $37 bucks. Hubby and I can barely eat for that nowadays. I would highly recommend a visit to Ikea for everyone as we had a great time, had a delicious lunch and found several other items worthy of a return trip. read more

One weird thing is you can not go backwards in the store to get to the cash out. There are one way escalators. So you have to go through the whole maze to get to the beginning. It's a hike. Some of the food is good. Some of it is frozen cafeteria style that is not great. Prices are fine. Worth eating here once. Also you can not make any changes to your order. They used to have a nice breakfast but came in today, the eggs had a hard crust on them, no waffles or pancakes, no yogurt, the coffee hadn't been started. The chillers were not stocked. The US stores are cheap, but the European ones are in a whole other ballgame. The food here was completely overpriced and lacking. On this trip I found this beautiful soap dispenser which my daughter gifted me and I can't tell you how much I love it (the tray is also from Ikea and a gift as well). Although the snacks at this location are super cheap and affordable, I don't think it's anything to ride home agota. You can purchase a combo meal for under $4.00 which will include 2 hotdogs, chips and a drink. They have smoothies, pizza, pretzels and the NEW Veggie dog. For a whopping $.90 per dog.... I couldn't resist try one. The picture looked appetizing but upon receiving sub par service and a veggie dog that looked nothing like the picture. I became skeptical. The veggie dog is made up of a variety of veggies in clouding carrot and kale and consists Quinoa too. It's topped with red sauerkraut and fried onions. I did enjoy having a veggie option It's tasted good. No big veggies flavor. Texture was similar to tater tots and I think the toppings are what truly made the veggie dog. I would have it again. I have never felt more uncomfortable in my life. My sister and I were so excited to go to IKEA for the day and eat some food and get some new plants and walk around. We spend some hours in the store after our meal and come up to self checkout with a $250 purchase. I personally dislike self checkout - but they didn't have any regular registers open. We wheel our way to the next open register and start scanning. There is immediately an older woman who comes over and stands next to our cart watching our every single move. At one point I looked over my shoulder and she seemed to be less than three feet from me. She then LEANS on the cart. We ring up our stuff and get selected for some random check. I scanned everything, so it wasn't a big deal until the woman scans EVERY single item in my cart. It took forever! Finally she finished and I go to pay cash. She explains the self checkout doesn't take cash. I look up and explain they literally have not one employee working a register - so she had to suspend my transaction and take it over to another register. It was time consuming and seemed very....just off. Is it because I have tattoos? Young? I'm not sure but as a local business owner in the community it felt very...not community friendly. :( Please do not take this review and use it for other stores. I tried to return some containers to the store today. I have a service dog and the container had a couple of hairs on it. Not like the things were full of hair. Only a few hairs. The attendant handed me a bag of cleaners and told me to step aside and clean the containers before returning them. I felt humiliated in front of the other customers that were in line. He then went inside and called a manager to make sure she said to clean the containers before returning them. read more
