Generally, I have no issues with IKEA. The products and pricing have definitely helped with putting together my home. We visited on Aug. 8, it was packed! Normally this would just be an annoyance, but in this pandemic, the amount of people was alarming. Walking through the aisles and pathways felt like theme park level crowding. There were a lot of unsupervised teenagers just hanging out and not adhering to COVID-19 guidelines. I think some people were there just because they were bored and were just hanging out and in the way. I stopped in to IKEA in Orlando to pick up a couple of desks when I was in the area. I had ordered before online, but had never been to the store. Since I was nearby, it was a good chance to see what they had to offer in person, and save on a little shipping charge at the same time. The sheer size of the place can be a bit overwhelming. As a 1st timer, It took awhile to "get the lay of the land". I usually think of IKEA as a place for office furnishings, and there is much , much more. The prices are great, and once you find what you want it is pretty easy to get that item and check out. They only negative is that the items are on display in 1 , and you need to go to a warehouse area to actually get them in your cart. That in itself isnt a problem, its more that the way to get there is not clearly marked. A lot of the signs seem to take you in circles, and the door to the warehouse is not "obvious to see". At the end of the trip there is a snack bar area. Cold water, and very reasonably priced food was great to have available. I can see spending hours in here on my next trip, and it will be good to visit the snack bar after that mega journey. I will go back for sure. read more

Nightmare experience dealing with IKEA's home delivery service (which was arranged in store) this past weekend. NAL literally didn't pick up our items from IKEA twice! Emailed us saying they didn't have enough trucks. Unacceptable!!! Went to IKEA with a uhaul and got a refund of shipping but they didn't refund the picking fee ($20) which would have been free if I had done a click and collect instead. I have always had a warm spot in my heart for IKEA. When I didn't have much money they had decent quality stylish furniture at a reasonable price. When I lived in Australia we went there once a week for some good but inexpensive food. Unfortunately, something has happened to IKEA in the last couple of years. The quality of the items has dropped precipitously. In addition to that, I have had missing pieces from several of my last purchases. That had never happened to me before. At this particular location the customer service has also degraded. The people working the returns area don't seem to care if they help you or not. They also are extremely slow so the line gets really backed up. On my most recent visit I just needed some screws that were missing from my latest purchase. They have a cabinet nearby the return area with spare hardware. They also have a computer so that you can look up instructions. Unfortunately that computer only went to the catalog and would not take me to the instructions. But this was a moot point as when I opened the cabinet it was basically empty. I've also noticed that the level of assistance on the showroom floor is not any where near what it used to be. It appears I may have purchased my last item ever from IKEA. read more

I've only been to IKEA a few times but I really like the store. It has cool, modern items that are very reasonably priced. I bought a shower curtain for $5 and a bath mat for $8. At these prices, I can change the look of my bathroom frequently & I can throw out the shower curtain if it starts getting moldy. We ate breakfast at the restaurant. The big breakfast with eggs, crepes, 2 sausage links and potatoes was only $2. They also have a smaller breakfast without the crepes for $1. We joined the Family Member rewards program, spent over $100 in the store & got our money back for our food when we checked out! This place is awesome!! read more

When they opened, no one can beat their prices, everything was organized and the main thing was innovation. Ikeas in the US tend to be very similar (unlike Canada and Europe where there seems more a local feel to them). This one was set up exactly like the others. I like that you know what you're going to get at Ikea. They had some cool summer duvet covers on sale and I couldn't resist. If I hadn't been traveling I may have bought more items but couldn't fit into my suitcase. No line really at the restaurant portion but I felt like the salmon didn't taste very fresh. Before shopping, pretend you're in elementary school again and have cafeteria food served by a smiling lunch lady. Food is super cheap here. One can hope it's real meat, but at that price does it really matter? The upstairs area is a maze of couches, computer desks, and bedroom furniture. You will ooh, ahh, and come to the conclusion that your house looks pathetic in comparison to how it could look if you bought a POÄNG chair. Your impulse buying needs are met in the marketplace downstairs where, brain-dead after a plateful of Swedish Meatballs, you'll suddenly realize you absolutely MUST have a rug made out of faux Polar Bear fur, and wonder how you've lived this long without it. IKEA also has a food section where you can buy delicious Swedish items like Lingonberry pie, Lingonberry cookies, and fish marinated in Lingonberries. For those who dislike human contact, IKEA has finally put self-checkout at the registers. This is also a good opportunity to watch sane people break down at the mercy of a scanner that won't register their item. I always say yes when my family wants to shop IKEA and it's because it give me the chance to enjoy the IKEA Restaurant which has awesome Swedish Meatballs -Beef & Pork Meatballs with lingonberries, seasonal vegetables, mashed potatoes and cream with sides ($4.99) Add a chocolate cake ($2.99) and I'm happy. The line might be long at times especially the weekends but it moves quickly. During this pandemic the local store is closed understandably. Now they have reopened for "click and collect". Place your order online and pick up at store. IMPOSSIBLE. Have been trying all week to place an order to pick up but no matter what time of day (have tried multiple times a day) it says they can take no more orders for the day. Ok, how about the next day or day after but they don't give you that choice. Tried calling the store multiple times however it's a computer runaround. I finally used 0000 for the extension and got to a live person. She was rude and not helpful AT ALL. May need to look elsewhere for a media unit. read more

Ok... I love Ikea. I've never had a problem with any missing pieces or parts, and I've bought a lot of Ikea furniture over the past 6 years or so. I currently have 3 bookcases, a chair/footrest, and 3 different side tables. I used to have a very large, sturdy, and practical coffee table, but it was just too large for my new apartment so I had to get rid of it. ONE problem, though, as far as quality of the furniture is concerned... I tried to be cheap and buy a cheap Ikea couch one time... Let's just say it's one of the reasons my motto is "You get what you pay for." ... It was okay at first, but after normal use over a few months, it quickly became more and more uncomfortable until it had to be replaced. As far as the Ikea shopping experience... LOVE it!! I love walking around, getting ideas, picking up little things that I probably don't need but want anyway. Pillows, candles, picture frames, wrapping paper... Love it! The only thing I hate are strollers and people being slow and in my way... but I hate that anywhere I go, not just Ikea. I finally tried their food for the first time last weekend, and YUM! I had a buffalo chicken wrap and some mac & cheese, and Colleen B. had the famous Swedish Meatballs with mac & cheese. Mine was very good, and I tasted her meatballs... super yum! It's basically like a in person catalog that not only shows you great furniture but also sets up displays giving you an idea of where the items can look so it opens up your mind to try new trends. I love that it flows through the categories of your household and includes all things that go with that specific category down to the pillows! I don't know what it is but I truly dig IKEA. I love the style, the prices and even the smell of the place (if you didn't know they have a cafeteria on the second floor). BEWARE! IKEA is a danger zone for impulse shoppers. There's all sorts of cool items for a couple bucks lurking around each display. Its real easy to spend lots of cash in this place. With that being said, I would say that you do get good quality stuff for the price you are paying. Another warning is that this place can get very crowded, especially on the weekends. Come early to avoid very long lines. You have to assemble the furniture yourself. So be sure you can transport all the furniture from the store. In other words, do not drive a small car to IKEA if you plan to leave with a living room set. Second, if you don't like building your own furniture, or have a hard time understanding directions that can be somewhat ambiguous, then IKEA might not be for you. Although not all the items in the showcase are always available you can incorporate your own ideas and make it original. I was very inspired by Tokyo bright colors with an urban art edge so I went to Ikea and bought bright blue fabric to come up with my own window cover. I bought a bright pink computer chair along with gold sheets and lime green pillows. There was even a posterboard of flashing building lights in Tokyo for about $10 along with live bamboo for $2. Great deal sounds like a steal! For $75 I purchased a brown wood 4 cabinet drawer that I built around an hour worth of time. However low prices might have consequences always keep in mind when moving Ikea furniture you have to treat it very nicely because the furniture tends to scratch up very easy. I love IKEA. Originally from Upstate NY, IKEA isn't around. Service wasn't truly a factor with this experience besides our cashier, Kevin. He was very kind and made the check out process super simple. IKEA has things that are perfect for new homeowners or people that recently moved. My bed frame is from IKEA, and most of our small simple decorations / kitchen gadgets are from IKEA. The area was less frantic and more simple to get into than the Atlanta location, but the layout was essentially the same. Unless you really know your way around, I'd say follow the main path or you'll end up being lost. I just returned from my third trip to IKEA this week =) Reason #1 i like to think through big purchases, #2 the first time I went I was overwhelmed #3 I really enjoy walking through the showrooms!!! I was on a mission to buy a desk/dinning room table. I had my heart set on this "make it your own" desk but the one I loved did not have legs to match that I liked =( I settled for the less expensive table top that had cooler legs. It's still really cool: VIKA AMON Table top and legs. To make up for the casual look of the table I got bright vibrant, comfortable chairs! While I was inquiring about the tables the first day I was there, the gentleman in that area helped explain how it all worked. He also was the one to let me know that the table tops needed certain legs and when I was not happy with my options to match the table top I liked, he showed me to an office all set up. He said, you may not like them alone but look how nice they are in our office. (good sales guy;o) Each day I returned he happened to be working and he said hello each time and said if I had anymore questions to let him know. Not pushy...but informative...my kind of Sales guy! While I was going through the pick up area for the furniture there were not many people around to help me out. It's a Wednesday though, I am sure they were not staffed to the max. I had to ask for help to reach one item but they were more than accommodating so that was nice. When I arrived to checkout the only registers open were the self-serve. I am not a fan! However, the employees assisting were extremely nice and the gentleman even wheeled my cart to the register and scanned everything for me! He also stuck up a nice conversation and was inquiring about what I had purchased. The only downfall I noticed was no one was outside to guard my cart so I could pull my car around to the loading dock. Good think my cart was super light even though there were 4 huge boxes on it! I know I can spend hours here looking at all the cool furniture, accessories, and possibilities; but I have a hard time handling the amount of screaming children and tourists who have no concept of personal space. Plus I always get the feeling like this time I am never going to make it out of the place....very creepy how they "trap" you in there. Unfortunately I am moving soon and need to downsize all my furniture so I needed to get ideas. Since my move is out of state I will either order online to have delivered or pick the stuff up there. The perfect place to come after eating out. We walked and walked and enjoyed all of the new items they had on display. Bought some beautiful classic white bone china plates that looked like something Jackie O. would have used. I want to sit and spend an hour having coffee and a slice of cake. I was disappointed that they were completely sold out of a specific chair I wanted. The crowds are unbearable and the weekends are always chaotic, but I have grown to expect this with Ikea over the last few years. What I DIDN'T come to Ikea for was the FOOD POISONING my husband and I barely avoided by the skin of our teeth ( I hate that phrase but it fits). I came to Ikea to get a specific dining room table I had been researching from their website. We decided to grab some lunch while we were there. While in line I saw a lot of small red flags that should have resulted in me abandoning my over sized tray with a plate full of "traditional Swedish desserts" resembling nothing other than Play-Doh. However my husband was so excited to get his plateful of authentic Swedish offerings I grin and bared it. Thankfully I'm a pescatarian who hates salmon, so the only option I had was Mac N Cheese OR their kids play shapes pasta in tomato sauce. I opted for the shaped pasta in tomato sauce. My husband pointed to a quiche/lasagna looking thing on the hot bar. It was not listed on the menu and looked slimy, old and not appetizing to say the least. My husband said "Oh that looks interesting!" to which my response was "That looks OLD." He proceeded to have the cafeteria worker (yes, this is the grossest excuse for a cafeteria I've ever seen) pile his plate high with a sample, steamed veggie medallions on the side. I notice my pasta in tomato sauce was not on the hot bar, he had to turn around and scoop it out of a pan in one of the high ovens behind him. He also used the spoon form the regular mac n cheese to dish is out. The sauce was yellow, not red as one would expect a tomato sauce to be. It had a hard brown crust on top and the pasta was overly plump from being cooked a large amount of time before hand and sitting in the warm oven for an extended period of time. I could also see trays and trays of pre-made food sitting out in the open air. I'm talking roll carts 10 trays high standing out exposed. All of the food you could tell had been sitting there for hours, crusted over on top, mushed and over heated on the bottom. Upon sitting down to dine I could smell the horrific rotten seafood scent coming from my husband's plate. It smelled like a Red Lobster dumpster on a hot Saturday morning. He ate a few bites and determined no more could be ingested. I was going to get a dinner roll and side salad to go with my pasta, but they were out of dinner rolls, and their salads were wilted and smashed under cellophane wrap with no dressing in sight. Within an hour we were both doubled over in the car with sharp pains in our stomachs. Luckily this did not result in a trip to the E.R., but had my husband eaten his full plate we definitely would have had to go. There are 100 restaurants easy within 1/4 mile of Ikea.
