Takeaway: This place is OK... just Ok.
Recently I renovated my office and kitchen, and decided to go with fake plants. What can I say, I am tired of watching plants die while I try lol
IKEA has a good selection of very reasonably priced fake plants plants and a decent collection of pots to choose from as well. After looking at other department stores, I keep coming back. I am happy with what I end up being able to buy.
(Why did he say it like that? "...able to buy"...)
My recent experience: I recently had to make 3 trips trying to get all the plant based décor items, of note is the location of this department: very close to the checkout. I found a way to enter and go the "Wrong" way to get there without navigating shortcuts through the whole place. But it was like driving the wrong way on the highway. THREE trips because if you happen to grab one of their items that was a display item, you will wait FOREVER in line to have the cashier unceremoniously mention, "I cant sell this, it is a display" and toss it into a bin. Done. No way around it, if you want this item, you are paying for this purchase, loading it into your car and doing the whole trip again... hoping you don't somehow end up with another "Display" item. Manager patronized me with an apology but NO offer was made to have someone swap it out. I was already exhausted, so facing my wife with missing items was the lessor evil. I'm STILL not done trying to get everything I wanted. IKEA... fix this. Seriously. I have a graduate degree from the IU School of Medicine and am STILL trying out how to best give you money and not need a nap and a therapy session after doing it.
The Good:
1. An OK selection of reasonably priced items. Wide variety of items for home décor and furniture, with plenty of styles to ensure you find something you like. And with prices that are very reasonable, you will either be happy with your purchase or not care because it didn't cost much.
2. Floor Staff are super friendly and helpful.
3. You can get a decent meal for lunch while you are there. (You are gonna need it. Just sayin')
4. Plenty of parking and it is pretty easy to access the store
5. Load out parking spots are a great idea.
The Bad:
1. You are going to need that meal, and they should offer classes on how to best shop at this store. Unlike the layout of most department or furniture stores, IKEA's layout strongly encourages you to walk the whole store every time you go. If you are there for one item, roll the dice and see if a floor staff member has time to take you to it. Crazy that you basically need an IKEA store guide if you need one thing.
2. Two experiences speaking to managers and both were rushed, dismissive and patronizing.
The Ugly: This whole deal around the display items is very frustrating. I cannot speak to all IKEA policy but this one sucks and needs fixed. A word to managers: Being obviously distracted and offering a patronizing apology solves nothing. Solve the problem. In my case you could have found a runner to go swap the three items your cashier denied me and I would have happily waited for you to finish your current task to ring up these items separately at another register. Crazy that I had to choose between giving more money to IKEA and facing a disappointed wife. read more
