THIS REVIEW IS SPECIFICALLY FOR IKEA.COM, NOT THE ACTUAL BRICK & MORTAR STORE A month ago, I ordered a host of things from IKEA.com and paid for the $9 s/h. A few days later I received an email stating the items I really needed were not available and to expect a refund. Three and half weeks later, I get everything else I ordered but the items I really wanted. To date, I never got my refund for the undeliverables. I tried contacting IKEA via phone and never once was it picked up because they are too busy. I tried to contact them via email and they made it so difficult to even fill out the form before an actual email can be sent. I ended up filing a complaint against them. I don't know if any other buyers experienced this, but buyers beware! IKEA is a very fun store to shop and I was truly disappointed with the IKEA.com experience. Never again. read more

Horrible experience with customer service. I had ordered a 700 dollar sleeper sofa. I had set up a delivery day and they called me at 9 pm that night to reschedule my 5pm delivery to 9am. Of course I didn't receive said call and so when I went to my dentist appointment set at 9 am, I got a call saying they were on their way?? I went through several different people to figure out whether they could deliver it in the time slot I had given them and said would work for me. They were completely rude so I asked to just cancel the order altogether. The lady on the phone tells me it will be 5-7 days for a refund. 4 hours later I get a call back. They ask me if I would retract me refund if they could deliver it at the original time we set up for. I proceeded with the cancellation. After 8 days I called and gave my reference number because I still recieved no refund. This person on the phone tells me "oh, it's actually 7-14 days for a refund!" Of course I was furious, but she assured me the information I was given the first time was incorrect so I felt no need to give this woman a hard time. Now it has been 15 days and still NO REFUND! DONT EVER BUY FROM HERE! if you do, make sure it's a small dollar amount, because you'll probably need a lawyer to get your money back! Horrible. Never EVER shopping with IKEA ever again in my life! My name is Laura, and I'm an IKEA creeper. No, I don't need furniture. Or cooking accoutrements. Or bedding. Or even rugs. What I NEED are IKEA's Swedish meatballs. About once a month, and always on a week night (when it's less crowded), you'll find me in the IKEA Cafe, devouring a plate of Swedish meatballs, mashed red potatoes, creamy gravy and lingonberry sauce. You'll see a smile on my face, both because the meatballs are so darn good and because I just got a heck of a deal. It's a measly $3.99 for this plate of happiness. That leaves plenty of change in my pocket to pick up a package of those Glimma tealights (100 for $3.99!) on my way out. You can also recreate the IKEA dining experience at home by picking up the makings for the meal in their IKEA Food Store. For a measly $9.99, you get a giant bag of frozen meatballs, frozen mashed potatoes and two packets of the gravy mix. Trust me when you mix up the gravy - it's heavy cream or bust. I love IKEA but I hate this location. I live in Bolingbrook and I will drive to Schaumburg if I need anything from IKEA. You cannot get out of this one without following the little arrows that take you all the way through the store. Unless, of course, you accost an IKEA employee and make them tell you which display has a secret exit behind it. How is this safe?!?!?! What happens in the event of a fire or other emergency? In case you think I'm overreacting, I took my husband there for Swedish meatballs after my initial visit and now he won't go back because we couldn't get out without the help of an employee (by this time there was a pack of anxious, trapped shoppers with my husband and I, trying to get out). The employee showed us that there was an exit BEHIND a bedding display. WTF?!?!? A friend of mine who lives in Woodridge was about reduced to tears when she could not get out of the Bolingbrook IKEA when visiting with a family member. She will not go back to the Bolingbrook location either. Do yourself a favor if you live in IL and like IKEA, go to the Schaumburg IKEA. read more

I love IKEA. Although they get a lot of flak for their furniture, IKEA's pieces are on trend, affordable, and easy to haul home. The biggest downside is the self assembly. I love the BILLY bookcases with glass doors, and I have no idea how I will ever move them out of my house, but I do know that I wouldn't have these if it weren't for some muscle man with patience to assemble them. Same goes for my dining room table. On a Sunday afternoon, it wasn't too crowded at all, which is more than I can say for the Schaumburg store. Upon departure at Schaumburg, you hate all humanity. But in Bolingbrook, other than the occasional couple on my heels, I was able to shop easily. Picked up some random doodads and got some great ideas for basement storage. IKEA is one of the best places to simply get ideas to design a room. I love the showplace layout and being able to pick up my items on the lower level. The checkout area is a little strange. The Swedish market is located past the registers, so you'll have to make a 2nd transaction if you want any food products. I was already exhausted by the time I checked out, so I skipped the market altogether. Also, you may want to bring a re-useable tote bag because there are not any plastic shopping bags. My mom and I left with our arms full of my items. This is a pain in the butt for small items, and I doubt a lack of plastic bags is assisting that much in keeping prices low. Not all prices are low. A toilet paper holder and towel holder were $13. Who do they think they are, Pottery Barn? Most other items are reasonable. I spent a total of $40 on 2 picture frames, 2 bath towels, a serving platter, 2 stuffed toys and a framed print for my bathroom. Worth a look, especially if you're decorating your first place or dorm room, or looking for storage solutions. read more

Fun, stylish homegoods at bargain prices. Living in St. Louis, I have yet to tote home large scale Ikea items. That said, I'm thrilled with the textiles, kitchen ware, paper products and cookies that I pick up everytime I can convince my family to take a detour on our way back to STL from Chicago. On the last trip, I did purchase a super cute round glass coffee table which my husband easily put together. The table brings a zippy splash of mod to my otherwise transitional style home. Disappointing customer service! To say it mildly... I'm trying to return some items, there are over 15 people waiting for returns and Ikea has only one employee processing! And that's not all, the sane person apparently also has to restock the items... i have timed the past three people and the fastest was 20 minutes, the others half hour. At this pace it'll take 5+ hours to make a return... but "don't worry! It's ok to bring it back", says the ridiculous heart-shaped thingy with open arms...I guess you can bring it back if you can spare your entire day looking at an employee moving slower than a snail! It does not end there! When I finally got my turn she said I am sorry these items are not in this receipt " but they were... it was up to me to point her to where in the receipt the items were clearly listed!!! And she said again "well im sorry but the receipt is not reading those Items" as if that was my problem!!! Needless to say she got a bit of a colorful complain from me. Then magically the receipt worked! Also, prices are now comparable or higher than "real" furniture stores. This is my last visit to this place ever!! read more

WTF. Came here for the second time in 3 weeks and the desk we want is still not in stock. The less than helpfull employee (once I'd finished waiting in line for 20 mins) suggested the website - no shit, do you think I maybe came to the store to avoid the shipping? When me and my family go to Ikea, it's a whole day experience! Now, you have to expect that yes, the furniture that you get here is cheap, both in price and quality. You don't shop here for the exquisite longevity and reliability of their products. As long as you go in knowing this, you'll be okay. We love simply walking around, checking out the displays and getting ideas on how to have a better storage and decor. I will say, I have bought a few things from here that I absolutely love. The wine racks that you drill to your wall, storage containers, vases, picture frames, and kitchen gadgets. I also use the blue zipper bags to transport things for my traveling boutique. As for this store itself, the cafeteria has pretty good food, I love the meatballs and frozen yogurt. The displays are done very well, the store is well stocked, and the bathrooms are clean. We spend hours walking and browsing, stop for lunch, and browse some more. I even used some small gold lanterns that were only $2 a piece for centerpieces for a friends bridal shower and they came out beautifully. read more

Okay so it goes without saying but ikea is the ish!!!! I love ikea! There isn't much you can't find here that you are in search for and it's not priced out of this world either. I love going to check out all the vignettes for inspiration! I just got an entire laundry organization unit here for like $65. I installed it myself and it looks amazing. The hubby and I were assisted by an ikea employee who helped us plan out our exposed closet with exactly what we'd need and she took the time to show us what the pieces looked like that we were getting. We're really excited to order that next! She even showed me some cool ways I can pimp out my vanity when I really want to get it right! So helpful. Everyone here is super helpful and approachable. And I just LOVE IKEA!!! What else can I say? Maybe if you care nothing about great customer service and home furnishings this won't do it for you but if you're even a little like me or you've recently moved into a new home, you'll love this place. What the hell this place is set up like labyrinth. I got lost. So lost. I knew what I wanted and where it was and I was still frigging lost. Yes, I like the cheap stuff. There are somethings there that can't be beat from an interior designers perspective. They have chic lighting and curtains and reasonable kids stuff. The later is what brought us into the bowels of hell that Ikea is on a Saturday morning. I really do prefer a little more full service furniture shopping. Little tip, a couple of trips ago my husband threw that 15 pound bag (slight exaggeration) of Swedish meatballs onto our palette. We ate them, they lasted a long time and were quite tasty. I used to live 10 minutes from an Ikea and now I have to take a 4 hour haul towards Chicago to visit one...........BLAH!!!!!!!!!! Besides the drive and the tolls and confusion to getting here, I actually enjoyed this locations. It was beyond busy and packed with people but I needed to make the most of my trip. They had a pretty good inventory or at least a good inventory of what I wanted. It kept fairly organized and maintained. The customer service was a bit rough. If you had a question about something, you could not track down a single soul that worked in the store to help you. The check out was long, very long. it took forever and a day to get through and right when it should be my turn, the gal in front dropped a vase and it shattered everywhere. I had to wait some more after that. I was happy with this Ikea. I was not happy with the drive but this is the price I pay for moving to the midwest. I am definitely a fan of IKEA. They have some good deals on some good stuff! Granted, the quality of the products aren't the best; although, if you are looking for shelves, cabinets, small furniture, etc., you can't go wrong here. I've purchased lights, fabrics, tableware, pet bowls, and plants (btw...cheapest plants on the market and better quality than most places). If you plan to buy appliances, look elsewhere. I hate to admit it sometimes, but I love IKEA. I'd much rather go to the Bolingbrook location - not only because it's closer but because the Schaumburg one is way busier. We have had excellent luck with our furniture from here. Putting it together is a pain - but even more of a pain when there are pre-drilled holes that aren't even used. It gets confusing. I understand a lot of their wood pieces are used for different all pieces of furniture and this is why they do that, but jesus it makes me doubt everything I screw in! Tips: Avoid this place during the weekend if you can! Know what you're looking for. Bring a vehicle that can fit all of your planned for - and not planned for - purchases. Just one question ... Why were the Xmas decorations out before Halloween? Boo. Also - beware of wandering people that are not aware of your existence, strollers, running kids and be careful when loading your cart with all of the boxes... it's not easy. read more

We ordered a desk from Ikea online. We were unable to get it picked up within 24 hours, so the store cancelled it. We were suppose to be refunded within 7 business days. It's been 10 days, so I called. They told me 4-6 weeks for a refund! Ridiculous, especially since we never even touched the merchandise. What a terrible business practice. The patterns are what you would expect from the store that brings us good design with an affordable price tag. It actually tastes good, and depending on what person you have serving food, you may actually get a few extra pieces of bacon, wooo hooo!! Just a note, unless you get in line at least 30 min before the store opens, I don't recommend going to free breakfast weekends....the line is insane, and usually not a lot of room to sit. What can I say... I do love a trip to IKEA. Though it is a bit of drive from my south suburban apartment, I still manage to shop here. Since my boyfriend and I are in the process of moving and buying adult furniture (you know, the kind you purchase from a store and not find for free), we have made two recent trips to the IKEA in Boilingbrook. The place can feel like a maze. Our first trip here, we went through the show room and sat on every single couch and chair. We pretty much went through the whole place and only bought a small gift for my nephew's birthday. We did eat at the cafeteria and felt it was way too over-priced for the quality of the food. So I recommend eating on the way here and skipping the cafeteria. Our second trip here, we basically skipped the show room and went for the small stuff. We needed a lot of little things but we are moving soon and only wanted to purchase essential things. Overall, I enjoy my trips to IKEA. It really is an adult toy store with everything you need for the home at a good price. I've heard people complain about quality of furniture before. I bought a bed frame from here nearly 8 years ago. Let's just say that bed frame made it through multiple moves and a few too many college parties. That bed is a trooper and standing strong still! read more

I love me some IKEA shopping. Now, I love a good bargain, but compressed corrugate is not my preferred style of furniture. That being said, I typically lean towards the downstairs for shopping - plates, decorations, frames, etc. Though, we always love to saunter around the upstairs for new items and to check out the rooms. Just recently, I had a hard time locating a few items. Several employees were spotted quickly and were happy to help. This is much, much smaller than Schaumburg - and I'm okay with that. I like that this doesn't take me a day to walk through, and that I can make a quick trip out of an IKEA excursion. But, if you're looking for a day-trek, tackle the Schaumburg location and then take a quick trip into Woodfield. You'll be shopped out! read more

This place really traps you to each setting and featuring their rooms. If you're here for a quick grab, it's impossible to just get to the floor that you need... Expect to spend a few hours here just to look. I don't recall seeing staff on the floor to help locate items either. XD I love this place just because I can fantasize about how my rooms will look. I bought a few sturdy drawers and desk here and that's about it. A couch that I sat on before crumbled easily (and I'm not a rough sitter). Same for the chairs and table sets... I like this Ikea location waaaaay better than the one in Shaumburg! Journeys to Ikea are a special occasion thing for me, so I don't mind making my way through the maze that is Ikea (in fact, I love it). I went on a Saturday around noon and found this store to be significantly less crowded than the other one was on the three or so times I have been there. It also took me less time to drive to this location (both are about equidistant from me). Ikea products seem to be hit or miss so if you're looking for something that has a bit better quality, read the label to see what it's made of. Or spend $30 on a coffee table knowing that it won't last long. The choice is yours! I will recommend, however that, if you're looking for less of a crowd, go to the Bolingbrook store. Pros to this Ikea: - Free Wifi near cafeteria/food area - Great deals and pretty decent selections as you'll find in any other Ikea - Located near the Highway, easy to access Cons: - Only two floors and it does feel like everything's pretty crammed in there. - Came on a busy Saturday so it felt like a zoo. Come spend the day at this place! Its huge and they will not let you out until you have passed through each and every department of their store (my dad needed a smoke and just couldnt get out!) They have some unique practical items at wonderful prices. I personally like their LED lights for cabinets and their shelving system. Shop carefully though, some products are low particle board and are not quality material. I love IKEA... a good portion of my home decor is from IKEA... but this location is just AWFUL. I've been to several IKEA locations (Kansas City, San Diego) and this one takes the cake on by far the worst. Every employee I have encountered today has just directed me in a "general" area of where the product location is but they just say "yeah, I don't know." I get it, I work in retail myself, but cmon! If you have enough time to chit chat about what kind of goldfish you are eating on the showroom floor then you can help me. I am currently waiting in returns as a product I bought (LESS THAN 5 MINS AGO) is damaged. The cashier helping me check out threw the frame I was purchasing and the corners have chipped. This has been just an awful shopping trip and has ruined the nice relaxing shopping spree I had planned. As a returns clerk myself, there's is no way possible that processing a return should take this long... definitely avoid this IKEA at ALL COSTS. If I could post 1.5 stars I totally would. read more

I came here for a President Day one day sale for Cover for my comforter. I went after work and it is located conveniently off of I-355 and Lemont Rd. There is a large parking lot. It was super busy in there. They DID NOT HAVE WHAT I was looking for. They ran out of it. Bummer! They should carry more items that go on sale. Thats what I recommend. I left there eating a hot dog in the car. The cafe by the exit has real cheap food. soft serve Ice cream, hot dog and pizza is real cheap down there. I will never go there again on a weekend. They seriously need to stop people from parking in the loading area and then just leaving their cars while they go in to shop, or even to finish checking out. I was waiting at one of the few empty spaces (with my purchase) for my husband to drive up with the car, and this guy just backs right into the space where Im waiting. When I commented that I was waiting there, he rudely says "Its a free space!" and acts all indignant. (Yeah..its a free space when you are ready to leave. But appatently he is so special that no one else is allowed to use that space until he is done with his purchase). He then goes into the store and I didn't see him again in the whole time we loaded the car and left. So, I really wish IKEA would have someone outside to help control this situation. read more
