As a JMU student here a few weeks ago I had great service. I was there alone so I had a lot of time to people watch. The servers are all incredibly kind and do their best to manage the many people who are there. My ONLY complaint is how appalled I was by the many CUSTOMERS behavior. And these were GROWN ADULTS. Additionally after reading the negative reviews on here it just affirms my experience. People mess up and make mistakes from time to time and it is understandable because they have a HUGE influx of people (more so than I've ever seen at any other ihop). Customers are INCREDIBLY rude and expect top notch 11 star service here as if they're royalty. For instance, one woman threw a huge fit because her toast was not buttered. When a worker asked to rectify it she refused but continued to throw her tantrum. ITS A PIECE OF TOAST WOMAN, IF YOU WERE REALLY THAT UPSET THEN BUTTER IT YOURSELF. Other instances occurred which I will not even waste my time writing about because they were so insanely ridiculous. So ridiculous that I felt I had to come on here and give props to ihop for the hard work that they do. Be human, treat your waitresses and waiters well because most are older and are full time working their butts off, and understand that mistakes do happen and people are always learning. You don't know what someone's going through, if they're having a bad day, or whatever the reason may be. So act with grace, stop acting like you're royalty, and practice some patience. If I could give this zero stars I would. After waiting 45 minutes for scrambled eggs it came out cold as ice and my friends order came out completely wrong and she had to wait an extra 10 minutes for a new omelette. Poor service even worse food.I will not be coming back. read more

I recently went to the IHOP at Zion Crossroads with a friend of mine. We were on our way home from Virginia Beach, Va and we were very tired and hungry. The waitress we had was 100% Awesome. Her name was Shin and believe me she shined!! Our meal was delicious and Shin was delightful. I hope she's working there next time I go through there. We were there on Friday May 10, 2019 about 4pm. Excellent I hop. The staff was friendly, efficient, and caring. They don't have a gluten free menu, but they were the only restaurant open on Christmas at which we could meet a loved relative. The manager and waitress were very accommodating and made every effort to accommodate my mom's gluten allergy, cleaning and isolating a whole griddle for her. We have been waiting over 1 and a half hours! We got here at 11 and it is now 12:31. Our group has 7 people, but we were fine with one or two tables. The hostess told us there was two tables ready for us in about 5 minutes but then they were given away to people who were only waiting for 20 minutes rather than an hour. I don't give many 1 star reviews but today is a must. I took my elderly mother to IHOP in Harrisonburg Va. because it was where she wanted to go. She does not want to go back any time soon and here is why. We were greeted at the door with the manager holding doors open for mom and her walker. They had to make a little room for the walker but not major deal; I noticed that there were only 7 tables in use, the rest of the place was empty. Shortly after that the server got our drink order "two coffees and a water, the coffee made it to the table pretty quickly but, it took almost 20 minutes for my water to get there. Okay so moving on. We give our food order, to make this a little shorter, it was breakfast food, mom had eggs over easy, i had eggs over medium. I waited 40 minutes before saying anything and what I did was to ask "why is it taking 40 minutes for our food (mom had the 2x2x2 and i had the sampler). I never got the question out because the server cut me short, and said it would be out shortly, it was there just under 3 minutes later but, both had over easy eggs so, that tells me the cooks, nor the server looked at the plate or, do they know the difference? The manager didn't say anything about the kitchen having issues and i never did get an answer as to why it took soo long. Especially when there is an elderly person there, a lot of times elderly people may take medication before going to a restaurant and for some, waiting that long can be a big problem. I am not advocating that anyone steer away from IHOP. If you have or if you have someone whom this could affect adversely you may want to rethink going to this particular IHOP. I have been to this one before and the service is okay but the food is definitely not great. You can get better service at Outback in Harrisonburg and and they're a whole lot more busy. read more

The food was good. The service was terrible. First, they wanted to seat us by the kitchen. They reluctantly accommodated when we asked for one of the many clean tables in the front. Then we watched as three other tables who were seated after us got their food. When our food came, it was cold. We asked for ketchup and it never came. Had to go get it ourselves. Went during a mid-morning on a weekday. Not crowded at all and were seated immediately. The server was friendly and prompt with taking beverage orders and brought them right away. Took the food order when she brought the beverages. Food was about 10 minutes. Ordered eggs and pancakes combinations. The food was all undercooked. Pancakes fell apart and had no "crust" at all. The eggs were artificially fluffy and seemed to be fake eggs of some kind. The hash browns were undercooked and had no crispiness to them at all. Overall we were underwhelmed with the quality of the food and the way it was cooked. Two meals, both undercooked. Price was about $10.00 per meal. A total of $24.00 with tax and tip. Too much money for the quality of food. The quantity was good but the taste and the way it was cooked was not worth the price. read more

We stopped here on the way home from our weekend getaway. Upon pulling into the parking lot, we figured that it will be a significant wait but we came in anyway. The hostess told us that it would be approximately 20 minutes to wait ...we waited barely ten minutes which was great for the amount of people that were here. The hostess wasn't personable but our waitress, Patricia was phenomenal! She is super kind, very attentive and she anticipated all of our needs. We didn't have to ask for anything, not even extra napkins. She came to refill my coffee without asking and she heard me tell my husband that they have grits here and she took it upon herself to bring us a bowl. We didn't have to ask for that either! She deserves the tip that we're going to leave her. As far as the food, it was very good. I don't even like grits but I tried my husband's and they were actually pretty good (that doesn't mean that I'll be eating from now on). This is a somewhat small IHOP from some of the others I've been too, it still has plenty of seating but there is generally a wait to eat. If you go on the weekend, expect a 30-45 min wait for a table. The people are friendly and their service is good. Sometimes there's a little bit of a wait on the food but it's always right and always hot. My favorite is the banana and Nutella crepes! read more

I went to Massanutten Ski Resort with my family over the weekend & I placed a to-go order at this iHop before heading home. I walked in & saw only one person working at the front...no hostess, just a girl with heavy eyeliner working at the checkout counter. She didn't greet me, or much less acknowledge the fact that I was standing there waiting. She just continued to take care of the two people in front of me. In the meantime I looked around & noticed that no one in the restaurant looked like me... A couple walked in & waited a few seconds to be seated (ironically around the same time the girl finished with the second customer). She instantly greeted them and proceeded to go seat them & I said "Um, I had an order." She walked back over to me, again saying nothing (no apology whatsoever). She just handed me my food & my receipt. Once I signed my receipt she walked back over to the couple & quickly seated them. I was very upset by this. I wanted to speak to the manager, but I felt like that wouldn't make a difference. The ONLY reason i'm giving this iHop two stars is because of the food. I've been to IHOP many times...this time we were taking a road trip to the mountains and stopped there for lunch. Our server was the nicest and most attentive server I have ever met and the food was delicious! You'd think IHOP is everywhere, the food is the same...uh NO! This was the best IHOP experience. On average this is one of the best places to eat breakfast, but not on New Year Day. It was not very busy but it still took our food awhile to arrive we got eggs and pancakes. Everything we had was cold I had the watress microwave my pancakes because they would not melt the butter. She also brought us some more hashbrowns that were very hot , but also very mushy like they had been microwave instead of cooked on a grill.For two people our bill was $25 without a tip. It definitely was not worth the trip from Staunton. We would of been better off to go to Waffle House. A manager never came by our table, the waitress was nice enought an try to help.
