SWIMMING POOL FILTHY, FULL OF DEBRIS & OTHER OBSCURE STUFF, DARK, MURKY, GREENISH WATER, PROBABLY BREEDING MOSQUITOS & OTHER HEALTH HAZZARDS. I thought I'd share this definition since the hotel staff clearly doesn't know the meaning of the word. We stayed at this hotel for our 29th anniversary and it was perfectly acceptable - not great, not horrible. So when our daughters decided to take their first parent-free road trip to Portland we booked their room on points. Right after we booked it I called the hotel to give them our daughters' names and request a credit card authorization. We wanted them to have our credit card on file for any incidentals so they wouldn't have to block out a "chunk of change" on one of the girls' debit cards. We were told that was fine. The day the girls were due to arrive my husband got a call from the hotel (probably because we are top tier rewards members). They said they were looking forward to his arrival and wondered what time they should expect him. He told them they shouldn't expect him at all, that it was our daughters that would be staying. He also told them that I called and gave them our daughters' names and sent a credit card authorization. My husband was then informed that they would need to physically have the card in hand in order to use it. They said the only other choice was to block out a significant amount on one of their debit cards (essentially the entire balance) or the girls wouldn't be given a room. My husband and I were outraged. Here was this hotel staffer telling us that our children would be denied a room we'd already paid for and left to sleep in their car. He had to go to a meeting so I called the hotel. I phoned and asked for the GM. Not available. I asked for the phone number of the GM's superior. That was a non-starter. Frustrated I asked for any available manager. I was told that they were busy but if I left my name and number someone would get back to me "sometime tomorrow." That wasn't going to work for me. They needed their room that night. So I spent ten minutes arguing with Destiny who insisted they did not use credit card authorizations. She gave me one line of BS after another and wouldn't find a manager who could be bothered with HOSPITALITY. Finally, I'd had it. I told her my next call was to La Quinta corporate. Suddenly she said, "why don't I send you a credit card authorization?" WHAT???!!! Up to this point she kept saying CC authorizations were not an option. I can't imagine what changed her mind. I was so fed up I called La Quinta corporate customer service. I told the above story. They had someone from the hotel call me which was a complete waste of time. The corporate line is that they are not responsible for what the various locations do. I beg to differ. Each of those hotels has a big La Quinta sign. These people can't have it both ways. They trade on the name when it works for them but disavow it any time anyone has a bad experience. My husband has a corporate account with them. I'm going to suggest he close it and make a deal with a different chain.

It was my second time but my husbands first time. We checked in at the spa tower. Valet was included in our resort fee of 19.99 per day. Check in was easy and we went to get our casino cards. We walked around about 4 hours, even tho our room was ready when we arrived. Dropped our bags and left. We were on the 9th floor. Nice room and decent view. The casino is gigantic! So many games, slots and table games. There is a movie theater , concert venue, bowling alley, arcade, several restaurants and bars and a food court. We didn't make it to the pool but got wristbands in case we had time. Only there for 1 night. Casino: slots were tight but I played for most of the night on various blackjack and roulette games. My winnings were steady. There are plenty of machines. The only negative is while you are playing, bar service is pretty much nonexistent. I saw waitresses walking around the tables but not once at the machines and we were all over. Get your own drinks at a bar or cart before sitting or prepare to get up to get them. Food: we ate at Smashburger for lunch. I really enjoyed my burger and fries. They were smash fries with a nice sauce on them and truffle oil. The burger was flavorful. I got a caramel Cinnabon. Another great treat. For dinner we went to the seafood buffet. It was 55.00 each and we were excited. Every.single.thing was overcooked. Fried fish, shrimp, chicken and snow crabs, all overcooked so hard I couldn't finish one bite of any of them. That bad. The etouffee was good but the rice was crispy. I immediately called for the manager. She apologized profusely and offered a full refund. Yeah we couldn't eat there. Great service and I hope they took the feedback and made changes. Finally, I ate velvet taco and hubby had chicken strips from the hot chicken place , good late night eats on both fronts. Checkout time on Sunday arrived too fast but we got packed up to hit the road and got our free soft drinks to go. Got the valet validated and on our way. Excellent stay and we will go back.
