I know nothing about cars & seldom need to use a mechanic / repair shop, so I was looking for a…read moreplace close to Bed Stuy to take my 2007 Lexus that wasn't starting. Plenty of places in Brooklyn have lots of bad reviews, so I went with Malibu due to their lack of abundantly bad reviews. Diagnosed as a rat-chewed wiring harness. Estimated at $390 to fix, which is exactly what I paid. Bit skeptical around how much work/time was actually involved (e.g., I'm a dude who knows nothing about cars & it could have just been a loose ECM wiring plug or a single chewed wire), but at the end of the day, my car is now running perfectly & I didn't have to spend $1k+, so I don't really care how much time actually went into it. Full wiring harness replacements can be thousands of dollars. Also got a tire patched and swapped out for $20, which is cheaper than what a tire repair shop would have charged. Great communication & updates... called in the AM for drop off via tow truck & they promptly kept me updated on progress throughout the day and notified me immediately when my car was ready. Also worth noting (which is pretty reasonable) -- they charge a daily car storage fee once work is done after 24 hours. My dream of not having to deal with street sweeping for a week was unfortunately shattered pretty quickly because they were so quick. Another reason I went with Malibu is because they have a spacious workspace that can hold a lot of cars -- lots of other repair shops have 1-2 lifts in what's effectively a residential sized two car garage. Malibu has a massively sized car warehouse that can hold multiple cars being worked on, and has space for other cars around still. Entire staff is eastern euro (not sure the specific flavor), but they were friendly. I picked my car up right at closing, and got blasted with cig smoke in the garage, which felt appropriate for a car shop closing up for the day. 5/5, would come back!

Within a couple of minutes, the horn was working, but they explained to me that a new one was still needed as there was an internal problem with the component and so, although it was currently working, it would most likely stop working again soon. They made some phone calls to see if they could get the part, but they couldn't. They advised me to get the part from Ford and bring it to them so they could instal it. Best of all, they didn't charge me anything for getting it to work. I know that's a small thing because, realistically, they really didn't do much, but it's that kind of honesty and integrity that I appreciate. For that reason I'll definitely be coming back in the future.

The main reason they earned their 5 star review? They turn down work. Other places could easily lie…read moreand find work that needs to be done. Ex: Go in for an oil change and you'll need a new timing belt or a different fluid change. Here, they only do what you ask for. They will turn down work if they don't think it's necessary. I went in for an oil change and my dealer told me that my brakes are due for a change. Went to Nick's and asked for the oil change and new brakes. The mechanic (I believe it's Ming) told me that they still had another half year to a year left on them considering that this is my daily driver. He told me just check it again next time I'm in for an oil change. Most recently, I went in for an oil change and had him check my brake fluid because it was within the timeframe of replacement. Ming turned down the work again because the brake fluid was still clean. If you know what you need, this is exactly the place to go for honest work.

This must be the worst dealership there is. I went to their repair service on quintard to get my wheel alignment checked after a parking lot collision where a person backed her car into mine. The insurance adjuster was supposed to go there to write up an estimate. When they got there the next day, my car wasn't even there anymore. Without my consent, they sent it out to Brooklyn to some body shop called Auto Dent. The insurance had to schedule another adjuster to go take a look at my car now in Brooklyn. To make a long story short, the body shop kept my car for 3 weeks, returned it unfixed. Nothing was done. In addition, when they towed my car from Toyota Service Center to Brooklyn, they used my plates for the toll which I got billed for. Island Toyota dealership cashed the Geico insurance check for $5,600+ and returned my car not repaired. They won't refund the money. They asked to bring the car back so they can fix it - thus admitting they didn't fix it in the first place. The guy from Auto Dent couldn't get his story straight either. He was very rude over the phone, first claiming he fixed the car, then saying he fixed some things, then said he can fix it if we bring it back. How could I send my car back to them? I went to another reliable body shop to get a statement that car wasn't fixed and payed for it out of my own pocket. Filed a DMV report against the body shop already. Auto Dent, Island Toyota, Toyota Service the worst customer service, and repair service there is. I assume, they went for the insurance fraud because my car wasn't badly damaged and if the owner didn't know much about cars, they would've never noticed that the car isn't fixed. Luckily, my husband knows a thing or two and after he brought the car home and started checking, he saw that nothing was done as per the estimate. It's hard to see at pick up as they give you "the complementary wash" so the car is wet and you can't see anything. We called the insurance back, they sent the local adjuster who came by and confirmed the job was not done. They were supposed to replace a headlight as per the insurance adjuster's estimate but they glued the one that was originally on the car. When confronted, they argued that they replaced it until they finally said that they glued it. Along with the repair receipt, they attached a list of parts they were going to use for my car with addresses where they supposedly got them from. They didn't use any. The other body shop confirmed that the bumper on my car is still the same bumper that was on the car and not a new one. They actually didn't even put back all the clips. There are parts numbers on parts...obviously.
