My partner & I truly enjoyed this quick getaway to Cape May. Icona is on Beach Drive, right across the street from the beach (as the name implies). I've stayed at their Diamond Beach location, but this was my first time here. Let me mention the most enjoyable employees first. Chet was at the Front Desk when I checked out. He was by far the most friendly person I interacted with at the front desk. Some of the females were a bit...... unfriendly. If you chose to work in a customer service position it's probably best to have a sunny disposition. I think Cape May needs to address that. Tarik/Tajik? He was the young men who helped EVERYBODY get their chairs and umbrellas to the beach. He was WORKING! Yet, he always remained pleasant. And lastly, the gentleman driving the shuttle was very pleasant. He picked us up/dropped us off about 4 times. He was also servicing the Mahalo (and Icona resort) so he had his work cut out for him! We REALLY appreciated him as it was pouring one night and he came to pick us up and bring us back to the hotel. That amenity is CLUTCH! Overall, it's a nice hotel. Clean, a beautiful small bathroom, a cute little kitchen area, a small pool, and parking. Somebody mentioned the room was small, but to me it was a decent size. The balcony however, now THAT was small. Just enough room for the 2 of us to sit out there side by side and chill. I did see larger balconies out by the pool (facing the beach) so I guess you get what you pay for (larger room perhaps; suite). The AC however, is loud. It's not a window unit, but one of those wall units. I'm glad I brought my earplugs, otherwise I probably wouldn't have slept. And speaking of sleep, the bed is not what I am used to when I visit a hotel; especially a higher end boutique hotel. It was uncomfortable to me. My partner however, had no problem sleeping and did not feel it was uncomfortable. So.... roll the dice. The pool is tiny. Or shall I say, smaller than the size you will expect it to be. But it works. I chilled in the pool for 3 days. It's a good spot to people watch and break from the sand of the beach. And once we parked, we didn't have to move the car. Cape May is very pedestrian friendly. We walked and rode bikes every where we went. I love it. It was a great getaway. Check it out. read more

Enjoyed our stay here for my son's 16th birthday. Rooms are updated and very well decorated. The hotel itself is small but very clean and right across from the beach. We could walk almost everywhere (if you like to walk- get those steps in). Hemingways is right next door with a great happy hour and Congress Hall and Washington Street Mall are about a 20 - 25 minute walk each way. They have a shuttle (wasn't running during our stay). Simple and lovely boutique hotel close to Cape May downtown. We had a good experience on the off season in November around Thanksgiving. We had plenty of parking since hotel was only 50% occupied per front desk staff. Works for me since no wait in elevators although just 3 floors . We were greeted by John the valet/ shuttle driver who was amazing. He took us downtown and even gave us a short tour of Cape May on return back to hotel.The front desk had a few issues at checkin( not worth mentioning) and most of the rest of stay was seemless. The room was spacious with very comfy and clean linens decorated in white and blue.We had a medium size fridge , microwave and glassware with silverware in our room which we used. They had a keurig coffee maker although we went out for coffee. They offered coffee by front desk and lemon water at checkin. The bathtub was small but we are not big people so fit well for us.Several cute ammentities such as Icona lip gloss and hand sanitizer were in room which I appreciated. The coolest part of the room was where could lock an outside door between our 2 rooms so could make it more secure and other guests could not walk by our doors.Definately helped with noise at night although it was extremely quiet day we stayed since few guests. Woke up early to catch sunrise on the beach across street from hotel. 44 degrees but totally worth it. Close to the ocean . Short walk across the street to see sunset and sunrise. Nice rooms with comfortable beds. Small bath area that was clean . No full length mirror in bedroom typical calls seen in nicer boutique hotels or chains. They wouldn't let us book for 1 night at hotel sine holiday but booked through another site and was able to book 1 night even though just 50% full. 3 floors although we stayed in 1st floor. Best part of stay was valet and shuttle driver John. He made our experience great with his drive for us downtown Cape May and return tour and history on way back. Our hotel fees were not consistent for separate rooms but overall it was a comfortable experience and it was good for a nights stay. read more

I had high expectations for ICONA -- expectations shaped by their branding as a high-end, guest-centered luxury destination. What I didn't expect was a glaring contradiction between what they promise and what they actually deliver. Despite wanting to book 2 months in advance and being willing to spend over $6,000, I was told that my specific room request -- a 3rd Floor Oceanfront Luxury King Studio -- could not be guaranteed. Not because it was unavailable. Not because other guests had claimed it earlier. But because of a hotel-wide policy that essentially boils down to: "We'll try our best, but no promises." Let me be clear: this is not a minor inconvenience. It's a deeply flawed approach to guest experience and a striking example of poor business practice. ICONA expects guests to pay premium prices while offering no assurance that the accommodations being paid for will be honored as requested. Would any hotel accept a guest's offer to "try their best to pay in full, depending on financial availability at checkout"? Of course, not -- they'd laugh you out the door. And yet, this is precisely the double standard ICONA is operating under. This policy isn't a one-off misstep -- it's standard across all ICONA locations. In other words, this is not a fluke. It's how they do business. As a result of this unacceptable policy, I will no longer consider ICONA properties for future travel. I've shared this experience with friends and fellow travelers, and I encourage others to ask hard questions before they hand over their credit card. If ICONA wants to be taken seriously as a luxury destination, it needs to stop hiding behind vague, non-committal language and start treating guest expectations with the respect they deserve. Until then, save your money -- and your sanity -- and book with a brand that doesn't confuse "luxury" with "we'll see what's available when you get here." read more

This is the view from the lobby in ICONA. This is a beautiful hotel with amazing staff in all areas. Our favorites were John and Al who helped us get around town through the free shuttle that is included with our room. Both guides were friendly and EXTREMELY helpful during our trip it was quite cold and they were able to give us rides around town often and with great timing so we were never waiting too long. Al gave us detailed and valuable information about the town and even recommended a few ghost hunting spots 10/10 would recommend and will definitely coming back ! read more

Surprised by the many great ratings. It's ok. It does smell moldy and bleachy, as someone else said. This is a dealbreaker for us bc both mold and cleaning chemicals are toxic. The AC is extremely loud. The bedding is cheap and hot. I am upset that we paid over $300/ night for what's really a $180 hotel. Would not rec if you care abt a room that doesn't smell. read more

The hotel was indeed very clean but the rooms are SO CRAMPED--they are like hotel rooms in European cities rather than what Americans are used to. The bed took up almost the entire room. There was a keurig machine which is great, and kcups, but no other coffee fixings (cream, sugar, stirrers etc). It was too cold to sit on the balcony that mostly overlooked the car park, but if it had been warmer there would have been a nice view of the ocean from there. My biggest pet peeve with visiting in the off season is the "resort fee." What in the world is the resort fee for in the off season? It's too cold to sit on the beach with beach chairs, the shuttle that runs people around town only goes on the weekends, the pool is closed, there's no dining at the hotel . . . it seems like just a fee that the hotel tacks on because they can. My second biggest issue with the hotel: although the hotel was under capacity, they assigned the other room in the "suite" of rooms (directly across the hall) to a family of five or six people with two little kids who were banging on the door of our room at 10pm at night yelling "housekeeping" like they were in an episode of Family Guy or something. When checking out I told the woman at the front desk about the issue and she looked at me like I had two heads, as though in disbelief that a family was staying in that room at all. MEH. I can complain about the actual hotel. It was clean, good customer service etc. my issue is that I booked them through Hotel Tonight and paid over 300 dollars and I was given a room valued at 200 dollars and it was super tiny. When I told them that they said well that's the room we usually select. When I called Hotel Tonight they said I had to hours to complain which had passed and that it was up to the hotel to choose the room. I wish I was provided with better customer service and given a better room considering the discrepancy. Otherwise I had a good experience and loved the cleanliness and decor of the hotel. read more

The Icona is a Beautiful place. It is located right across the street from the beach. We were in room 300. I was told that was one of the best rooms in the house. It really was very spacious. We had two separate rooms. The living room area had a Murphy bed located in the wall. That appeared to be a shelf. How cool is that. We had our own bathroom. Since the room came with two. The kingsize bed was very comfortable. We had a mini fridge. Microwave and the room was equipped with a safe. The room comes with a couple of perks. They give you two mints on your bed. Chapstick and your own personal Icona slippers. They also give you a robe to borrow while you're there. The robe is also available for purchase. They indicate on the door.the price of towels. Washcloths, robe if anything comes up missing. This is my second time staying in Icona. I've previously stayed at the one in Diamond beach. Our room was much bigger at this one. The only downside for this location is that they don't have a restaurant or provide any room service for food whatsoever. They do provide a shuttle to take you to the restaurant located at the Icona at Diamond beach. They also have a lower ground garage. It has very limited parking space. On the other hand it is free and it's on a first come first serve basis. Our room was very impressive and super clean. So was the balcony area. Overall four stars. read more

Visited April 28 and 29th, 2021. We booked a King size bed on line. The bed was clean and comfortable. The balcony was sufficiently sized. The bathroom cramped. The shower spray was barely adequate. The room was cramped. No amenities. No pictures on the wall. One backless chair for a room with 2 adults. There was one upholstered chair that took what limited space was available. A high priced hotel with sparse creature comforts. Notes: The parking was plentiful because it was off-season. Based on previous reviews, this is not the place to book in-season if parking on the premises is important! read more

We very much enjoyed our stay at ICONA Cape May. It is a boutique hotel facing the ocean and was perfect for two. Comes with one parking spot per room and street parking if you can't find a spot. We stayed the week of Labor Day so we were able to secure a parking spot but can see how during summer months it could be an issue especially for a family with young kids and strollers. It was a great motivator for us to walk instead of drive and get to see the area on foot! They also provide beach chairs and will walk them across the street to the beach for you, and also set up. They do not provide beach towels or umbrellas (so bring your own if you can!) but you can rent the umbrella from Stegers right on the beach for $14 a day. We stayed on the top floor so we didn't hear much noise from the street or lobby. Staying at a smaller hotel meant taking the stairs was an option which was great when we didn't want to wait for the elevator. Our room consisted of a King sized bed with a table and two chairs, a decorative chair with an ottoman and a small kitchen area. The bathroom was a bit cramped which might be a problem for a family but for two people, it didn't ruin our stay. Housekeeping was great and provided us with fresh towels each day. We had a balcony but it was too small to share unless you kept the door open and not the most ideal situation when it was hot outside so we didn't use it much but it was nice to have to check the weather. Overall, our stay was great! Staff was friendly and they offer shuttle service to their sister property in Avalon which we didn't take advantage of so I can't comment on it. I should also note that I called the week before our reservation to inquire about adding on an extra day to our stay and the woman on the phone was very helpful. She said she would look into it and call me back. In less than 15 minutes she called and let me know they were able to accommodate us! I wasn't expecting anything since it was on Labor Day but was very happy she went above and beyond with my request. We would definitely come back again! read more

Clean, quiet, quaint! Very nice but small room, even smaller bathroom. Getting ready with three females was irritating at best. This hotel is incredibly overpriced for the small rooms but for two nights will make it work! Most excited to see our Coastguard recruit graduate which makes the room pretty insignificant! I prepaid a vacation here 8 months prior to check-in. I cancelled the reservation 3 months prior and received several emails from Icona stating that I would receive my full payment back minus a $50 fee (on account of...nothing reasonable 3 months out). I cancelled a week before NJ cancelled all short hotel stays for my Summer 2020 stay. I received another email after the official shut-down stating that they were unable to issue my refund AT ALL and have heard nothing since. They can get to their internet and emails, but are refusing honor their written promise to issue my refund. Beware of anyplace that demands a full prepayment months before your check-in date. I am losing sleep over this as they use my mortgage payment to keep themselves afloat. read more

Perfect little spot among the bigger hotels and mansions of Cape May. Immaculate, and bright with blue and white decor, I was so afraid I would spill something, lol. Double queen Room wasn't small at all, balcony was perfect for morning coffee or bed time cocktail. Granted you can only see a patch of the ocean, but you can feel that ocean breeze! The coffee area looked like something out of a manhattan apartment, all white tile and glass. They give you lip balm! Location is perfect across from the beach, walking distance to a lot of restaurants, arcades and mini golf- and the shuttle will take you anywhere you want to go on the island. Beach passes are included ( don't lose them though, they will charge you if you do!!) They set up your beach chair and umbrella and take it down for you- though they really should have more then one guy doing it- that poor young man ran himself ragged. Gave him a big tip. Granted there's not alot of parking- but they will valet for you, and the on street parking is free at night. The pool is very very small, yes but it was well maintained and the young kids in our group were fine with it. Besides there's that beautiful swimmable beach just across the street. My only complaint is the price, but I get it, this is Cape May, and compared to other properties of the same level of accommodations it actually cheaper. read more

We wanted to get away and test the waters of a hotel. We trucked down from Long Island for a few days. The ICONA is only 4 years old according to the front desk. The rooms were decent and the bed was amazing. The rooms were quite- meaning I heard no one from the street or hallway or the adjoining rooms. The drawbacks: The cooling system isn't an AC but a cooler. Everything was moist. The carpet, towels the bed. Wet clothes or towels never were dry. The cooler ran all day and night. The bathroom door stuck. The drawers were near impossible to open and close. The room smelled musty and bleachy. My wife asked if we would go back or recommend. Yea if it weren't in the middle of a humid summer I guess. read more

Such a pretty hotel! We booked it two days before leaving an we got a great deal. It's right by the beach, and walkable to all the great locations in Cape May. The only downside is that there's no room service and the parking is very limited. We got caught in the rain and we had to park on the street since the hotel has limited parking spots. I definitely recommend staying here to anyone who's wanting to enjoy a nice getaway down in Cape May. The service here is impeccable! The rooms are cleaned daily, they offer you free shuttle to anywhere in Cape May (which my girlfriend and I took advantage of lol), free beach chairs for the beach conveniently located right across from the hotel, all the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Overall, this place is amazing and we will definitely be back. P.S. if you stay here, purchase the pillows. I got two king size pillows, new I might add, for $50! And they are comfortable as hell! Cape May during the off season is my favorite, so we decided to get away for a few nights to celebrate my 35th birthday before the Jersey Shore gets run over by tourism for the next several months. I booked the Icona Cape May through a Travelzoo deal...we had stayed at the Icona Diamond Beach a few years ago and liked that property. Our room here was smaller, but it may have just been the type of room we had (two double beds with a balcony, though no ocean view from our side). But similarly decorated and very clean! A soft chair would have been nice (other rooms do have them) but having the kitchenette and table/chairs was nice as well. Balcony had two chairs & a table and served us well for reading in the afternoon. Bed was very comfortable! Check in was quick (there's really no extras beside the small convenience store area behind the front desk) and friendly. The pool area is small but comfortable. And you can't beat being across the street from the quieter end of the beach. It's only a mile or less to the main areas so it's walkable (though we drove). Housekeeping was friendly and quick. My only complaint was that we figured out check out time by Googling since it's not labeled anywhere in the room. Would be nice if it was posted. I'm sure I could have called the front desk though. read more

My husband and I decided to sneak away for Valentines before the busy Pres weekend and we wanted to stay in Cape May. In our limited research, we saw that this hotel was just a stones throw away from the beach and walkable to the square for shopping and dining. We saw the reviews of how pristine the hotel was, and the photos posted were awesome We were sold! Upon arrival we were welcomed by Chet and Meredith at the front desk. Hands down friendly and accommodating. When they say it's an incredible day at the Icona (that's their phone greeting), they mean it! You immediately feel ahhhh. Our room was pristine and came with lite robes and had a welcome box of chocolates with little bear for Valentines. Sweet. Even little extras like makeup remover pads (which I forgot!). We loved our couple of days at Icona in Cape May and loved taking advantage of the crazy warm (in the 50's) weather and incredible off season rates! Come to the Icona! read more
