Return flight to Boston was newer plane than the one I took to get across the pond, but still has no power plugs, old usb plug in so bring adapters and had old school earphone jack for listening to movies. Flight crew was great very smooth flight. As mentioned in previous review, just be mindful of what you are purchasing and services provided on these flights and it is not as horrendous as some make it. Sure there are hiccups and not invalidating those experiences, but overall with a little planning this was a good direct flight to Iceland from my point of view flying Economy Standard and I didn't use my check in bag as I was able to keep it between my backpack and small carry on for this trip. Pack your snacks or purchase after security and have some adapters to ensure you can use the services provided and enjoy some great experiences in Iceland!! read more

When I tried to change the stopover to the return leg online, I got real confused with website and cancelled it, big mistake!!!! I subsequently made a new booking, which cost $700 more. Truley expecting a refund on the cancelled tickets. Not so, the airline has no leeway on customer mistakes and returned $600 on a $1700 purchase. Where do I begin? Lost luggage? Cancelled flight? The trip from Seattle to Reykjavik began with a piece of lost luggage. As luck would have it, I'd put an air tag in both pieces of checked luggage, and one piece was left in Seattle. When I called Icelandair, they attempted to blame Alaska Airlines for not transferring the luggage, but the air tag showed, without doubt, that the baggage had been transferred to Icelandair. It took three days for them to locate and deliver the luggage despite the fact that I told them where the air tag indicated the specific location. Then, our return flight was cancelled. This added to the expense of our trip - extra day of our rental car, extra day of boarding our dog, extra night at a hotel, extra cost of meals. I'm hoping that we'll be reimbursed for all these expenses. And then the stingiest airline that I've ever flown with with regards to inflight served. On the flight from Seattle to Reykjavik, the only complimentary beverages were water and apple juice; the return flight did include coffee and tea. I've flown many airlines, and this airline was the least generous with complimentary snacks and beverages. I would not fly with them again. read more

Family and I have flown Icelandair for years, however after the last time not sure we want to go back. Our seats were broken, but they didn't inform us till we reached those seats. Then we were moved to an exit row and had to wait till everyone filled out of the plane at the end to head back to our original seats to get our bags. We had a short layover which was made shorter by that inconvenience. Once we got to the terminal for our next flight, we were greeted with the lights turned off, and not a single restaurant or store open. It was 6pm on a Sunday and we hadn't had anything to eat on the last plane so we at least hoped for some dinner at Reykjavik. No luck. We also didn't receive anything on the next six hour flight. We arrived at our final destination after 10+ hours in uncomfortable seats and with no food thanks to Icelandair. read more

Their fine print does say they reserve the right to change your seat even if you pay extra to upgrade. They cited "safety" reasons which is BS because it was a completely full flight. My understanding is that this airline is bankrolled by the Icelandic government. To encourage tourism you can stay in Iceland if you have a connecting flight. We were going to London and figured we'd spend a few days in Iceland at minimal cost (Icelandair was a couple hundred dollars more than other alternatives) but how often do you get to see Iceland? Icelandair gives Continental a run for the money as worst airline ever. Lost our bags on the first leg of our trip. They can not even pull their planes up to a jetway at the airport in Iceland. They transport people to/from the planes in busses that are stuffed to the point of being a safety hazard. ALL food must be purchased - not even free pretzels or peanuts. Inside the terminal they have extremely poor logistics with literally hundreds of people standing in line at the gate. At least we got to see the country. Iceland is a beautiful country. ICELANDAIR WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY! On a recent trip with IcelandAir, we paid $50 extra for two aisle seats. IcelandAir reassigned us to middle seats upon just before the flight and refused to refund our $50. We paid $50 to select two aisle seats ($25 each for seats) Aisle seats are important to us because I am a disabled veteran with chronic back issues, I cannot remain seated for that long of a duration without going into immense pain and my back tightening. When we checked in for the flight the evening prior, we were still assigned those seats. However, when we went to the counter in the terminal to show our passports, the IcelandAir agent gave us new boarding passes. At the time we didn't notice that we were both reassigned to middle seats. We were not told of this change when handed the passes, and did not notice the change until we were beyond security. Once we noticed, in the middle of a meal, I immediately called Icelandair Customer Service. We were initially told that because we were close to departure time, only the airport agents could make seat changes. We went to wait at the gate counter for an IcelandAir representative to show. Once an Icelandair representative showed up at the gate, we told them the issue. At first, the representative lied to us and told us our seats were reassigned because "our payment did not go through". Even when we showed him the receipt, he stood fast on this and repeatedly lied about our payment not going through, saying that the seats were reassigned because we did not pay for the upgraded tickets - although this payment was included in the purchase of our tickets and other aisle seat selections. He then told us that we had to call customer service, that he couldn't help us. I again called Customer Service while at the gate counter. The Customer Service representative then told us that yes, we did pay for the seats but they were changed due to "an equipment change" and that only the check-in desk (prior to security) could reassign our seats, as it was too close to the flight time. As this was now about an hour until the flight, we would have missed our flight if we had to go outside of security, take the airport train to the terminal, try to get our seats back, go through security, take the train to the terminal, and run to the gate. Because this was not possible, we continued to ask Icelandair to give us the seats we paid for, or other aisle seats. We were eventually told that one of our assigned seats (27D) was broken and that is why our seats were changed. We were additionally told that it was a full flight and he did not see any aisle seats available at that time. Seat 27C, which we had paid to reserve (in June!), had already been assigned to a different passenger and the representative said once a seat had been assigned they could not take it away. Ironic, given that the seat had been PAID for and assigned to my wife that morning, yet they had no problem stealing it and giving it to someone else. The broken seat was apparent when we boarded and saw the taped off seat. However, the 27C seat was fully operational, yet that seat we paid for was also reassigned to a middle seat. WHY WERE BOTH OUR AISLE SEATS REASSIGNED TO MIDDLE SEATS WHEN ONLY ONE WAS BROKEN???? If this was correctly addressed at the proper time, I could have been reassigned to another aisle seat early. Because IcelandAir deceived and delayed us, I was forced into a middle seat where I was unable to get up as frequently as needed to alleviate my back pain. As a result of being forced to be in the middle seat, despite our paying for an aisle seat, I was practically immobile once the plane landed, and continued to be in pain for more than 24 hours after the flight and negatively affected our vacation. My pain was a direct result of Icelandair changing our paid for aisle seats without notice . All due to IcelandAir. We filed online for the return of the $50 we paid extra for the seats, since IcelandAir breached the contract and did not deliver the paid for seats. IcelandAir refused to refund our $50! They stated that "since seats in whole back cabin are with same price" we were not due a refund. If this is the case, why do they carge for seat selection! Absolute Worst Customer Service Experience When purchasing our tickets, we added paid meals for each of our children. Nowhere does it say that they are complementary. We received an email stating kids eat free, so we called to get the meals we paid for refunded. It is against their policy to refund, credit, or transfer the meals. We asked to speak to a supervisor, but we were told "supervisors are not taking calls" so we asked how to contact a supervisor and were told to email on the website. So, to recap, kids eat free, but you don't know that until after you purchase the nonrefundable meal at the time of booking. Nowhere on the meal portion of the booking, does it state you can have a child meal complementary. It is not even an option. You cannot add it online. You have to call the airline for that. However, if you want to speak with a supervisor, you can only do that online. Complete ridiculousness. We were told by the customer service agent that it was our own fault that we didn't use our "personal intuition" to call ahead of time when booking with children and that if we had "researched on the Internet" that it says kids eat for free, but nowhere on the booking platform, even when adding meals, does it mention anything about this. There are also no departure lounges or seats at the gates resulting in chaos and clogged hallways. Approaching boarding time, the lack of direction and signage led to several queues of passengers forming at once. While a lot of grumbling could be heard, thankfully no WWF-esque fights broke out from attempts to merge the lines. Overall I would recommend Icelandair if you don't want to pay astronomical fares, have extreme patience, and can run steps like Rocky in a training montage. While our flight and flight crew were pleasant enough (save for the snack issue), I would avoid KEF like the plague unless my destination was in Iceland, or if partaking in the extended layover program. After checking-in in Portland, we receive a text that we will have to fly in economy because of an aircraft change. This was disappointing given that we purchased full price tickets so long ago. When we check in, the person there said it was actually an overbooked business class, but since I am checking-in early, I will be okay. Absolutely crazy! The planes themselves are outdated with recliner vs. lay flat seats in business. I will say that the flight attendants were great and the woman who checked us in at Heathrow was fun and wonderful, but this alone cannot make up for lack of customer service and follow through from the airline. Now that we are back after a month, we submitted a claim for reimbursement, but have not heard from customer support. Based on our experience, I should not be surprised. read more

Take your business elsewhere... Recommending to search for another airline. I've had trouble since booking and very unhelfpul interactions at every stage since. Situation was admittedly my fault: booked an itinerary (four flights total), and mistakenly one flight had the wrong starting airport. My booking was for a non-refundable, non-cancellation ticket, which was the cheapest option, and I booked one month in advance. I noticed my mistake the morning after booking and immediately called customer service, noting that I'd made an error and was there anything that could be done. Said I was willing to pay an up-charge for any difference in price, would like to keep my itinerary with them, and was apologetic. Was told absolutely nothing could be done, per the policy. When asked if there was anyone else I might be able to speak to, I was told I could call back and hear the same response if I liked. I did that. The next agent told me there was no absolutely no option, but that if I bought another ticket ($400), he'd be happy to help me speak with a refund team about getting back an airline tax. When asked if he could tell me an amount, I was told it would negligible, and when I asked if he could find out for me, I was told the refund team doesn't have a phone so he couldn't engage, but that I would receive more information if I paid p. I plead for some human understanding, that I wasn't trying to inconvenience anyone and was trying to keep their business. I was told again that nothing could be done, so I asked where I could submit a complaint and that was that. My issue was this: by helping out a new customer who made a mistake once, they would have made a good impression, kept my current and future business and very likely received the added bonus of another customer paying for the seat I gave up. As it stands, I've paid full price for a KLM flight and Icelandair will be losing my business and that of my family and friends for good. While this exact situation is certainly on me and hasn't arisen with any other airline, I've received excellent conflict resolutions from other companies (thank you KLM, Lufthansa and Japan Air). Never have I had an experience like this anywhere else, and that's enough to keep me away for good. Engage companies that treat you well. read more

Horrible experience - with a horrible airline- I am going to have to sue them in U.S. Small Claims Court to recover a complete refund for my airfare and also my hotel expenses associated with a flight segment that cancelled. Under U.S. Law- I am entitled to a complete refund when an airline cancels a flight - in this case a connecting flight from Europe to Iceland. IcelandAir is holding back $200 of my refund for some unknown reason.. In December, Iceland Air cancelled a Europe to Reykjavik flight segment say that the cancellation was due to weather conditions beyond its control......but they were able to operate other flights to other destinations on that day, and competing airlines were able to operate their flights into Reykjavik Airport. I will argue in Small Claims Court that their operations were within their control., Because the flight involved a connection to the US - on he same ticket number- I should be able to sue them for damages in US Small Claims Court. Their staff in Europe were racist in how they handled the passengers in the cancelled flight- White Europeans and White Americans were cheerfully reacodated, while Asians and Latinos were told to sit down and wait for an undetermined time for word from Reykjavik. Under EU Passenger Rights - when an airline cancels a flight - all passengers are entitled to hotel accommodations, reimbursement for cancelled hotel rooms - and to be whole financially. Again- Iceland Air staff cheerfully helped White passengers and told Asians and Latinos to " just shut up and wait for word from Reykjavik. Iceland Air is a third-rate airline - staff simply doesn't care about passenger service. Iceland Air is also RACIST and people of color are treated more poorly than whites. DO NOT FLY ICELANDAIR unless you're ok with being abused. read more

THIS IS THE WORST AIRLINE EVER!!!!!! I spoke with Icelandair customer service multiple times. Based on the information I received I booked my flights. I confirmed everything before and after the booking. Everything was fine until the next day when they sent me an email to inform me that the information was wrong. Now They are unwilling to refund me. They are completely unprofessional, rude, and unwilling to work with customers. After multiple phone calls they promised to listen to the recordings that would confirm THEIR mistake but all they did is lie that the recordings state something that was never discussed. I have NEVER been treated so poorly! Icelandair notified me there would likely be a strike on the day of my return flight, and asked me to reschedule. They did not have any flights available for me, forcing me to book a flight home on another airline - a VERY expensive flight. Icelandair did not compensate me IN ANY WAY for my ticket, and did not care in the least I would be stranded in a foreign country with my 80-year old parents (without their medication!) Shame on you Icelandair! I would give them "0" stars if I could, because that's how they treated me - like I'm less than a human being! read more

When you book icelandair, you need to realize that this is a discount airline. This one, Aer Lingus, Norwegian Airlines, and a few more will be your most cost-effective ways to get to Europe from the US. If you want a cheap flight, just put up with the issues until you finally get there. If you want luxury, then take another airline like British Air, KLM, American, or Delta. Pay special attention to the luggage rules because they will check your bags. You get one bag to check in (50 pounds max) a carry-on bag, and a personal item like a purse or laptop. On the plane, there is usually room in the bin for your small carry-on. You can also put it under your seat. Roller bags may be a bit more difficult to stow in the small bins. Your leg room in the seats is tight but not as bad as some other airlines. The stewardess and stewards are very nice and helpful. The bathrooms start off very clean and get worse during the flight. It's best to go before you leave or when you arrive in Iceland. The airport in Iceland is very new and modern. Ten years ago, it was a wonderful place to change planes. It was all wood (floor, walls, and ceiling) - truly unique. Now they have built another wing that is more like all the other airports. You will have a little over an hour to clear customs (your bags get automatically transferred) and get to your next gate. Clearing customs is very quick and easy. After that, you will encounter a mass of people and you will probably be packed tightly in a bus to take you to your next plane. Don't worry about missing your flight. Icelandair manages everything with precision and will hold a plane if yours arrived late into Iceland. Get in touch with an employee if you are running tight and they will help you navigate the system. Make sure you clear customs and get to your departure gate before you shop or get something to eat or drink. With an average of 1 1/2 hours between flights, you will not be able to do much of either one. As I originally said, this is a cheap way to get to Europe from the US. Just put up with it and enjoy Europe when you finally get there. read more

Not worth the hassle to save a couple bucks for a plane ticket. I've flown with Icelandair several times but they've really gone downhill lately. You used to get 2 checked items for free. Now you have to pay extra for any checked bag and they're really cracking down on size of carry on items. The seats are tiny and cramped, the on board WiFi doesn't work. Connections in Reykjavik are a pain and you'll always feel rushed. They time the flights so all connections leave at the same time and you have about an hour max, including boarding time. That means it's always packed with people, and there's never enough time to stop and grab a snack. Then the airline is too cheap to pay the fee for unloading passengers at an actual terminal, so be prepared to park 10 feet from a gate and have to use a stair car and a shuttle bus to actually get into the airport. This last flight was really the final straw. When I initially booked my flight, I got an email saying my flight no longer existed and to reach out to them. So I did and found they cancelled the flight for that day. Keep in mind, there's only one flight per day to my destination. My only option was to book the flight for the following day. I specifically asked for a window seat and that was confirmed in my follow up confirmation email. However, once I actually checked on for that flight, that was no longer the case. I spent 7 hours in a middle seat. Never again. If you want to check bags, after you add up the fees for that, you're better off booking through a nicer airline. It'll probably cost less and you'll have some nice human necessities. read more

While this is not the best airline I have ever traveled on by ANY means, I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a cheaper option to get to Europe then their pricier American counterparts. My partner and I traveled from Orlando to Paris, France with a plane change in Reykjavik. The most disappointing aspect of this international flight was no meal service for the duration of the flight. Food was able to be purchased, but this was my first and only experience with an airline not serving a meal on a flight which was almost nine hours long. While I was extremely disappointed in this fact, I do have to commend the amazingly friendly and classy staff that was present on our flight from Orlando to Reykjavik. They were some of the best airline attendants I've ever come in contact with, and this alone was more than enough to convince me to possibly fly them in the future, although I may be upgrading to Saga class next time. read more

Iceland Air has to be the worst Airline ever! Booked my trip 9 months in advance with Jet Blue (their Partner Airline)...and due to JB getting us to JFK 3 hours late we have been stranded for 4 days in NY (JFK). We keep re-booking thru Jet Blue (required by Iceland Air), and Iceland Air keeps canceling the tickets. At this point we have missed almost half of our vacation and we are out thousands of dollars due to no refunds on the hotel/car rentals and missed excursion. Three hours and 9 minutes on the phone this morning (4th day stranded) and again, the airlines are sparring as to who is screwing things up. Something has to be done to make these airlines be more responsible!!! read more
