My husband and I flew on Delta Airlines from Pittsburgh to Boston (terminal A) and then from Boston to London (terminal E). We had to take an elevator and then a shuttle bus to get between the two terminals in the Boston airport. Our flights were on time. The airline, however, mistakenly emailed and texted us that they had given us a free hotel night and a meal voucher. Then an employee got on the intercom system and announced that Delta had an error in the system and that passengers should disregard the messages. I felt thankful that our connecting flight did leave on time so that we could arrive at our destination on time. Otherwise, the Delta Airlines employees performed their jobs fine. read more

It looked like a good size plane from the outside, an Airbus A321 which can hold over 200 passengers. However, when we sat down in the first class cabin, I had to ask, "Honey, who shrank the plane?" The plane looked new, and was very clean. The seats also looked new, and there was a nice flat screen to watch movies. But the legroom felt really tight for first class, and the seat recline felt very limited. When my laptop was stowed under the seat, there was just enough space for my feet on the floor. The meal was very good (always go with the chicken - in this case chicken thighs), and the flight attendants were very attentive. The plane departed and arrived on time. They had just expanded the airport so the terminal was the latest and greatest. They had a new security feature where they photograph everyone getting in the plane. Airline separated seats for parent and 5 year old and refused to put us together saying "if you wanted to pick seats you shouldn't have booked the basic ticket." Delta has become my preferred airline, surpassing United after many years. Part of it has to do with where I mostly fly out of, Atlanta and Raleigh-Durham, especially in recent years. Simply put, Delta has surpassed United and American in terms of the complete consumer experience. The two biggest examples that come to mind for me are the in-flight experience and customer service. When it comes to the in-flight experience, Delta's cabins have more comfortable seats and better entertainment options and amenities than United and American. Scheduled arrival to Boston was 12:31pm on a Thursday and scheduled arrival to Raleigh-Durham was 2:26pm on a Sunday. I chose to sit in the same seat both ways, Seat 15C (exit row), on an Airbus A220-100. The same type of aircraft was used for both flights. I was in the "Main Cabin." I used to fly delta almost always, they were trustworthy, decent, convenient and didn't break the bank. This past year has shown me over and over that this brand has gone straight down the toilet. You can't find a flight that leaves on time, or a plane that isn't experiencing technical difficulties. It's so frustrating, I missed so many different things because they are completely unreliable. I would highly advise you to choose another flight service because delta won't leave on time and they won't tell the truth about it they trickle truth you to keep people calm. Despite the horror stories I've heard - my arrival and check-in was easy as pie and over in only moments and I was whisked through TSA and on the other side to the gates in about 10 minutes from arrival at the drop-off area. I've flown Delta for years, but my recent experience was deeply frustrating and disappointing. Delta's new $300 round-trip fee for a pet in cabin is unreasonable. A pet carrier fits under the seat -- the same space a carry-on would occupy -- yet we're charged more and forced to give up our carry-on. Other passengers get both a carry-on and personal item. Why are pet owners penalized for using the same space? Worse, the enforcement of this policy is wildly inconsistent. I flew two days ago with my pet and carry-on with no issue. On the return flight, I was suddenly forced to check my carry-on -- which held my laptop and essentials -- just because I had my pet. Check-in staff said it was fine, but the gate agent insisted otherwise, and was rude and dismissive when I tried to explain. Other airlines handle this better. American may have raised their pet fee too, but they still allow a carry-on. JetBlue treats the pet as a personal item, which feels much more fair. Delta's approach feels like a cash grab, not a service. To top it off, the day before this flight, my original one was canceled. I spent the entire day at the airport and had to pay $400 for a hotel out of pocket. Staff were hard to find and not very helpful. After all this, it's no surprise some passengers try to register pets as service animals -- policies like this push them to. I'll only fly Delta when absolutely necessary from now on. read more

Earlier this month, I flew on a Delta flight from Boston (BOS) to Minneapolis-Saint Paul (MSP). I came from a flight from Toronto. My first flight was late. Luckily, it was a WestJet flight that was cross-listed as a Delta flight. It meant that I had landed at BOS's Terminal A and my connecting flight was also at the same terminal. It means a lot compared to some other major hubs, such as Chicago O'Hare (ORD), when it can be a mad dash connecting flights. It was definitely less stress here. I needed to get a boarding pass for my flight to MSP. It could not be issued from Toronto. I found my gate where my flight was going to depart from and spoke to a nice Delta man about getting my boarding pass. He printed it out and handed it to me with a smile. I thanked him. Face masks are optional at BOS. It was weird. It felt like a throwback to pre-pandemic times that felt familiar, yet foreign. I had less than twenty minutes to spare between landing and boarding my Delta flight. When it came down to boarding, there were so many tiers that my group was near the bottom. I was in the Main 2 group, which was probably the second-last group to board. With the various boarding tiers out there, it became quite the lineup to board the plane that the boarding process had to be halted. It ended up being a huge plane and it was a full house. I didn't realize how popular this route was! I found a spot in one of the overhead compartments for my backpack. It wasn't full, so it easily fit into a smaller space. I was thrilled to find a USB cable to charge my phone running at 16% battery power in front of me when I was seated. There were also AC outlets and more USB ports in front of the seat rows, where our feet where. Although my travel day was long, I did not nap on any of my flights. I can't explain why. Normally, I can. On this flight, I ended up watching The Secret Life of Pets. I had never watched it. I can say that I have now. There was also The Matrix movies available as an ode to Keanu Reeves. I passed, not that I didn't like them or him, but I have seen them all! I also listened to podcasts on my phone to pass the time. It was an uneventful, relaxing flight. We were offered a drink and a snack in our cabin. The flight attendant was nice. She offered four (!) snack options. Although the dark chocolate granola bar still appeals to me as I reflect on the options, my first love on any Delta flight is getting Biscoff cookies. I love these cookies so much that any other option, including pretzels and anything with dark chocolate, automatically gets dismissed. I also got a Diet Coke. Biscoff cookies with a Diet Coke are heavenly. So good! We arrived early to MSP. Getting off the plane took a while. I was in row 37, so I wasn't in any rush at all. Delta and WestJet flights are all at MSP's Terminal 2. It was my first time at this terminal. It is the older of the two terminals at MSP. However, MSP is a Delta hub, so there was a lot of activity at around 8 pm on a Sunday evening. I had a great flight. Other than the weird boarding process by tiers (the number of tiers was closer to ten) that could use some help to prevent congestion getting on the plane, I'd fly Delta again. (165) read more

Delta get you act together here!! I fly delta all the time and rarely check bags but was on a longer trip this time and had a bigger bag. The line to give them my kiosk checked bag was crazy long!! I spent an hour in line just trying to hand my bag to someone!! There were plenty of people working the counter just not working this line. They all seemed to be dealing with international travelers and us lowly "got to get to our plane" people just waited while two counter staff took their sweet time working the baggage line. Just a first row seat. The bins are way smaller than a regular jet's bins so I was concerned that I would end up checking my bag. However, the two flight attendants on board were rock stars! So one used to be a gate agent and knew how to maneuver the bag to get it into the bin! That was key. I ended up talking to the other one a big part of the flight and that was fabulous to get to know a little about her as well. The only negative was that the coffee was burnt! I love Delta. Out of all the major domestic airlines, this is my choice, maybe because I used to live in Atlanta and I used to fly Delta every week, for years....but I find them a lot better than the others and in the past several years, their inflight service has gotten better and better. I got to the terminal and easily there were many kiosks if you needed to do self check-in, or like I did, if you check in online or on the APP, you can easily find the TSA line to get through. In Boston, Delta has grown a lot and it is now a large international hub, especially towards Europe. If you fly domestically, you might arrive into terminal A, if you fly internationally you might leave from terminal E. So, the solution that Delta has come up with is a shuttle between the two terminals, among other choices...here they are: - For international travelers with connecting flights in BOS, a shuttle bus is provided to Terminal E from Gate A11 in Terminal A to allow customers to stay airside and not exit the terminal. - Massport provides free shuttle bus service between all terminals. All Massport shuttle buses feature low-floors for easier boarding, luggage racks, and are wheelchair lift-equipped. Buses generally run every 5-6 minutes. Please look for Massport shuttle bus #11 at curbside on the lower level of Terminal A. - Alternatively, customers arriving in Terminal A can walk to Terminal E by taking the skywalk bridge (up the escalator from the Terminal A lobby) to Terminal E (less than .2 mile about a 5 minute walk). Smartcartes are available throughout the airport. Currently, all International, departures and arrivals for CDG, AMS, LHR, FCO, TLV, ATH, EDI and LIS use Terminal E. Dealing with airlines and flying, you really have to learn patience. This year, though, has been utter hell in regards to flying. Harder to get on flights, longer wait lines, crazier TSA lines, the works. My recent experience with just checking in on a Delta Airlines flight is the perfect example of this. Check out the picture of the line I took. This is just the line to weigh and drop off your bags! So after you use a kiosk to check in, which takes some time to get an empty kiosk and then go thru that process, you have this to look forward to. 30 minutes to get through to an agent. This does not count the time for them to ask for your ID, and then weigh your bag, charge you, etc. There has to be a better way to do this! We have better things to do than wait in line! This review is for the Customer Service call Center. Its been many years since I have used Delta because of contracts my company had with another airline. However, that has since changed and I am allowed to pick which ever carrier I see fit to get me to my destination. I had a setup an account with Delta, but never used the phone App. When I went and downloaded the app and tried to log into my account, I did not recognize my info that I had entered. I tried several times and ended up locking myself out. I used the online chat messenger, and it worked great. It was initially and automated BOT but it soon transferred me to a live person to help me with getting my account unlocked. Unfortunately, the live chat could not help me and gave me a 800 number to call. (Heads up, if you are locked out of your account, don't chat with the messenger service team, they can't help you.) Call 1-800-323-2323. This is where I must take away a star from Delta, and only can give them a 4 star review. When I called the 800 number. It starts off with an automated voice saying that they are, "Experiencing higher than normal call volume and if you are not flying within the next 72 hours, to call back another time." I understood and hung up, thinking I would try back later in the evening. I called a total of 5 times at various times throughout the day, into the evening and into the next day, each time I called, I kept getting this automated message. I finally said, "the heck with it", and followed through to the prompts to get to where I could get my password and account reactivated. I requested a call back. 15min after calling, I get a call back and the person, "Sean" was amazing. He was super patient, didn't rush me to get my member's number and stayed on the phone until I finally had access to back into my account. He was very professional. read more

I dunno about you, but I feel like folks are way too harsh on airlines these days. They want it their way, right away. People talk about Millennials and Zoomers being the "right now" generations; when in reality, that's pretty much everybody. And that's my hypothesis on some of these mediocre to negative reviews on Delta Airlines. Because as someone who could possibly be considered a VERY occasional world travel guy, I can tell you a thing or two about all the major players in the airline business. But for brevity, we'll stick with my experiences with Delta. So, I'll start off with a slight disclaimer: I've actually flown Delta the least out of the other 3 major players. And yet the first thing I noticed about Delta was how seldom they'd miss their scheduled departure times. This is important because it means I theoretically have the lowest chance of missing a connecting flight by flying with them. Case in point: the aforementioned happened to me at least twice whilst flying with American Airlines. Then when you go to look up the reliability percentages regarding departures and arrivals by airline, you quickly realize that AA is one of the lowest of the 4. That's what I noticed, anyway. Anyways, not only is Delta's punctuality second to none, but so is their professionalism and accommodations. I was on a rather short flight this go around. So, I can't really tell fancy tales of elite life in first class or whatever. I can, however, comment on the more than stellar service I had on all flights Delta. I can comment on the fact that their app has one of the best interfaces I've seen in a travel app. The ticketing is clear and concise, making it easier for the TSA agents to immediately spot the difference between a ticket with TSA Precheck and one without. They also color code the tickets by class (First, Delta+, Economy). Why can't all the airline apps be like this? Don't know. That stellar service I mentioned earlier....certainly doesn't come without its perks. Not only are the flight attendants way friendlier and more attentive, the pilots have quite the sense of humor. During some pretty rough turbulence on my way back to Boston (possibly akin to that of the choppy waves in the boat scene from "The Wolf of Wall Street"), these dudes start playing the song "Hold On Tight". I have no idea who sings it, but that shit was hilarious! I should mention Delta had some pretty competitive rates this go around. Typically, I shop for tickets by price via this site called Skyscanner. It cross references all airlines and compares the prices. Normally, I just choose whatever is the least expensive. After some recent experiences and reading up on airline reputations, however, I've decided that it might be best to go with Delta in most cases than not; until or unless logic and experience prove me wrong, of course. One more thing I wanna address is the dreaded 'O' word. That's right. I'm talking, of course, about overbooking. A previous review mentioned this, so I figured I should address it. On my second leg towards Ohio, that flight was apparently overbooked. How did Delta handle it? By offering $500 to the first 10 people willing to volunteer to take a later flight. Not a bad deal, if you ask me. And the thing is, most airlines do this, except in the form of points or a gift card only usable in a very niche market; typically their own. Delta was offering cash. $500. That could be spent anywhere. I'd say the emphasis on customer service is there. So, they'll be my go-to, for now. Delta Airlines receives 5 very satisfied return customers for life out of 5. read more
