The thought of non-dairy ice cream seems absurd at first. But for people who don't consume dairy products like me (I'm vegan), it is a masterpiece. I would never have thought that Ice Cream House, a chain of regular, local Pinoy ice cream would have some options for me alongside their usual, extensive menu of various dairy ice creams, splits, sundaes and milkshakes, so I only discovered their line of non-dairy ice cream after having purchased it from a restaurant who serves it in my village.
Ice Cream House's line of non-dairy ice cream is called "Savor a Mi". It's made of coconut milk and it's amazing! There's currently 1 flavor that's a staple, which is the plain one. It sounds boring, but the texture and consistency is amazing. It's creamy, unlike some non-dairy ice cream with textures more similar to a sorbet. The sweetness is just right, and it's really perfect for non-dairy milkshakes and soda floats. They're relatively cheap, and you can get a pint for about 60 to 70 pesos, and a gallon at around P250.
On some occasions, they do release other flavors such as Buko Pandan and Mangoes & Peaches (so good). Whenever those flavors aren't available and I'm not feeling lazy, I just make my own using the plain as the base! I put it fresh fruit like strawberries or mango, give it a blitz in my blender, chill it again, then serve. I have a long list in mind for all the flavors I'd like to try with this!
Oh and they have several branches across the metro, too (although none in the South!). There's bound to be one relatively close by. read more
