We recently landscaped our driveway in late 2018 with a local Boulder contractor (Prana…read moreConstruction). The contractor uses Robles Bro's. As their concrete subcontractor. Robles added a whole new section to the driveway, alongside the existing concrete that has been there 15+ years. Within less than a year, the Robles concrete began to erode, crack and crumble badly. However the existing concrete driveway remained in great condition. The contractor and a Robles tried to explain it away by saying we were using chemicals on the driveway for snow melt that eroded the concrete , however the original concrete was quality and unharmed after 15 years and remained so. And even in areas of the driveway where we never use any snow melt, the concrete was degrading fast. Upon sending videos to both our contractor and Robles, the answer we got was that the concrete is only guaranteed for a year and we have no Options for fixing it. Not what we wanted to hear after spending $12,000+. So I'm sharing this review to warn anyone else clear away from using Robles Bros and making the same mistake we did. Check carefully who your contractor is using if you are not engaging the concrete sub yourselves. I am including photos of the awful quality concrete here and if it works I'll also post a video. As of writing this review, both Robles and Prana have elected to ignore the issue and not attempt to fix or remedy the situation. Pretty devastating given the amount of money invested.

tl;dr headline - These guys are great: professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and, above all, fair…read more I recommend them enthusiastically and without reservation. Our large back patio was subsiding on the east edge and had developed a large crack near the center of the slab that ran from front to back. Last year, we took three bids, chose the middle-priced one, and contracted with a urethane-injection company. They were courteous and prompt but did not manage to restore the sagging part of the slab to its original position. In fact, there was no visible improvement at all. Despite the failure, they insisted upon payment, claiming that at least there would be no more subsidence. Predictably, a few months later, we noted additional sinking. In response to my complaints and after far too much cajoling, the representative came back out, said there wasn't anything more he could do, and refused even my generous offer to split the cost in lieu of the full refund to which I thought I was entitled. We decided to take bids on full replacement of the patio, which turned out to be jaw-droppingly large. We decided to try one more time to jack the sinking half of the patio. I found AAA Concrete Raising on Yelp and contacted Trevor. He came out to have a look, submitted a very reasonable bid, and even followed up with me when life's typical distractions delayed my response to his bid. During this follow-up call, I had the opportunity to discuss my misgivings because of my previous experience. "What do we do if it doesn't work," I asked. Trevor patiently and graciously explained that he had confidence he could do the job and that we could work out something fair for his time and materials if I wasn't satisfied. That was good enough for me and we agreed on a time-frame in which the work would be done. As he had promised, Trevor called the day before to let us know that he'd be out the following day and even gave us a 2-hour window during which his crew would arrive. They arrived as scheduled and did a truly amazing job. They were able to jack the sagging half of the patio to its original position, nearly close the large center crack, and even leveled an adjacent, separate staircase pad so that there wouldn't be any tripping hazard between the two concrete sections - all for the original amount of the bid. We're thrilled with the results and AAA saved us the substantial cost of a new patio. If you've got some concrete that needs lifting, don't hesitate: just call Trevor. You won't regret it.

I had about 9 different brick estimates ranging from the guy who said, "uh...sure...I think I can do this," to the couple who just turned tail and ran away, to companies with price tags that were essentially the cost to build a new home. I did a lot of research and saw pics online of the work put out by Brick Specialists. What I got was even better. Honestly, everyone at Brick Specialists should be wearing capes when they show up at your house. They are heroes. I cannot give enough kudos. First of all, James is the ULTIMATE professional. He is soft-spoken, kind, accommodating and really knows his stuff. The price point was great (not the cheapest, but in this case it's worth it to pay a little more). Beyond that, the work was impeccable. The guys working on the house were so talented, matching mortar, brick type and color with some really antiquated original brick, and fast. Other contractors on site were astonished at the talent of these guys. People walking down the street would stop to comment or give hugs (yes, this happened more than once). You cannot go wrong by hiring this great group of guys!

And I called one other company for a second bid. David showed up in time for our appointment, and his explanation of the problem (80 year old mortar in our brick house was falling out). The previous owner had gotten some of it repaired. That mortar was failing, too. I was particularly concerned because one pillar that carries a heavy load was cracked so badly (see photo) that you could see daylight through it from top to bottom. David explained why it had failed, and how the repair work someone had done years ago made matters worse. His bid that was about the same price as the other firm, but his explanation -- and the bid itself -- were so clear that D. Masonry was my obvious choice. He provided me with proof of insurance, too, a request the other company ignored. They lived up to my high expectations. Watching them work, I realized that tuck pointing is a highly skilled craft, practically an art form. They took the time to mix and try a range of mortar colors. With their help, we selected the one they advised. Now that the new mortar has completely dried, I can see it is a perfect color match. The pillar I was so nervous about? They elaborately jacked up and stabilized things, so they could remove the pillar, which they disassembled completely, laying out all the bricks (with all the old mortar removed), so they could put them back exactly as they were, only sturdy now, and good as new. Masonry repairs -- done well -- simply disappear when the work is done, right? As long as I own this house, my gratitude for this job-well-done will live on.
