We were warmly greeted upon check in and treated wonderful the entire stay. The rooms are a but small but decent and what you'd expect in london. Still plenty of room for 2 people and luggage. Bed was comfortable but a bit noisy/squeaky. One of the bonuses for this spot- apart from the location and staff- was free breakfast! And it was a spread! Full English, a large assortment of pastries, yogurt and muesli, waffle station and multiple coffee makers. As others say, it can get a bit busy but we never had to wait to be seated. For being a 3 star hotel, it gets 5 star Yelp review! We decided that when we return to London this is a spot we would make as our base camp again.

And I was miserable in my teeny room facing the street. It was super loud and super hot (July heatwave). And they were so great to move me from that room to another one facing the back garden. The breakfast buffet was OK (and thank you for having gluten and dairy free options), but so uninspired (and not cooked well), that I actually asked to remove the future breakfasts from my reservation. The location was great, in that I walked everywhere. The underground is about a 10 minute walk in any direction. But, as a single woman, I didn't feel comfortable walking around at night alone (and actually, that's probably a good rule for anywhere in London) and took taxi's home each night. My friend was free upgraded to a suite, because of only 2 nights and a full hotel, and her room was AMAZING. With more amenities! I was definitely jealous. But I was totally happy after they moved me. So, skip the breakfast, but go have a drink in their garden. And get a bigger room when you reserve. Say hi to the lovely people at the front desk!

There is plenty of indoor seating but we prefer outdoors because of covid and it was also just so beautiful and quiet. The breakfast buffet had ample vegan options which we appreciated - baked beans, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes, cereals, muesli, fruit, a variety of nondairy milks (soy, oat, almond) and coffee. The hotel is in a very central area and it's easy to get all over the city via the tube or bus or walking. I'd definitely stay here again!

First, the other stuff: I didn't love the location because I wasn't going to the trade show my husband was attending. It was the perfect location for events at the Excel Center. But my expectations of Hilton properties are extremely high and they met them in every regard save one. They far exceeded my expectations at the bar. And the bar is the point of my review. After an exhausting day of travel (I met my husband at the hotel on the second last day of his trade show) I just needed a drink. I went in to the bar wishing I could get my favorite drink but not feeling very hopeful. I love a proper whiskey sour. A proper whiskey sour is made with egg white, bitters, and a cherry (in my case, several cherries.) Hardly anyplace makes them that way. The common fail is the egg white. I assume people don't want to make them that way because it's hard on the arm; you really have to shake it. A lot. But a proper one is outstanding. So I went over to the bar and inquired. Then I met the staff: Lucas, Marcu, Monika, and Sergio (I must apologize at this point because it took me so long to write this that I can't remember who had which role.) They were all fantastic! When I asked, the manager heard me inquire and immediately interjected. He said he'd be happy to go to the kitchen for an egg so the bartender could make it. When the server brought it to the table it had a cherry but was lacking bitters. So I asked if they had them to add and was immediately assured that she'd take care of it. I also asked for extra cherries. The drink returned a minute later, bitters in a pretty pattern and a pick filled with cherries. It was perfection!!! For the rest of my stay my cocktails were perfect! I ate every meal in the bar as well. I'm sure the service in the restaurant was great, but the bar staff took such good care of me that I didn't want to go anywhere else. My compliments to these individuals! They go above and beyond, making their guests feel valued. I was about to book this hotel for another trade show in September but it's already booked. I'm not surprised. We took the train into the King's Cross station, where you can take the bus or walk over. And there were nights we came back from the Angels station. And finally when we left, we left from Pancras International which was across from King's Cross Station. Upon check in staff was nice, checked if we had food allergies, and gave us their delicious Doubletree cookies. We were given a 1 bed room on the 5th floor, which is their top floor. For my friends in the states, this is equivalent to the 6th floor because in London the first floor is 0 or ground floor. The elevators, or as they call it, the lifts were small in space. It can fit about 4-5 people without luggage or maybe 2-3 people with luggage. I liked that you needed to scan your room card to access the elevators, but I didn't like how our cards kept getting deactivated. Staff told me it can't be near phones or credit cards or it will deactivate. Pretty silly cause the card is card size made for wallets. I have been to many hotels and even many DoubleTrees all over the world, and this was the first time my card deactivated, and multiple times, during my trip. As for the room, it was very tight for 2 people. It would still be tight for one person. There was only one side table. Barely any space for 1 piece of luggage. The bed was hard and the pillow was flat. The TV only had local channels and the guide didn't even display what the channels were. Other hotels I have been to lately all have streaming options these days. There was a mini fridge that wasn't too cold and a blow dryer. The bathroom was so cramped it was hard to maneuver around. Barely any counter space. Good thing I have a hanging toiletries bag to give myself extra space and prevent my belongings from getting wet. Overall, the location is the main selling point about this hotel. Being walkable to nearby main stations is important when travelling.

The hotel makes it clear that Bonvoy status does not mean much here. We were told that unless you book a park view room, your Ambassador Elite status will not get you one. Instead, we were placed in a room facing a brick wall. Status does not guarantee upgrades, but the way it was communicated was unnecessary. Room 1 had a broken AC system, which forced us to pack everything up and move. At least that room had decent storage. Room 2, the one they reassigned us to, was smaller, faced another brick wall, and had less storage than the first. It also had an oversized desk that took up far too much space. In a London hotel room, where space is already tight, it made the layout awkward enough that you had to walk sideways around the bed. Housekeeping was another issue. The hotel looked clean overall, but one day we returned to find a toilet cleaning brush sitting in the sink. It had clearly been used in the bowl. That is not something you expect to see in any hotel, let alone one at this level. The hotel was also stingy with towels. Even when requesting extras through the Bonvoy app, they did not reliably show up. The lounge food was the same every day, with no variation at all. It gets boring quickly. Tons of construction has the backside street of the hotel closed to vehicles and the jack hammering during the day was dreadful. Check to see if their is active construction before you select this location for your stay. Security was not ideal. The building has access points from two different streets, and there were several nights around midnight when nobody was at the front desk and nobody watching the doors. For a major London hotel, that is not reassuring. Great location and a historic building, but the service culture, attention to detail, security, and treatment of loyal Bonvoy members all need improvement.

However, at the Sheraton Park Lane I was told to "get it myself." Otherwise, the staff were friendly and efficient. Breakfast in Mercante was good. The bartenders in the Palm Court were courteous and proficient.

Breakfast was good too - the buffet looked pretty varied if you eat normally, and they do porridge with water as standard, so wee vegan me had no trouble at all. They also provide sesame seeds and nuts that you can sprinkle on. I also had some fruit to start with. Everything about our short stay here was easy - just want you want when you're stuck due to a cancelled flight.
