And doing my own research it really looked like it was a solenoid that needed to be replaced. Another business wanted to not only replace the entire valve but dig a huge hole in my front yard and cut pipe and were going to charge me $300 for the parts and another $338 per hour for the labor with tax it came to $739.35!!!! I got a second estimate and William came out quickly, was friendly and punctual, and was able to simply replace the solenoid from Home Depot for a grand total of $77 including labor. he even helped me figure out the zone five drip line.

Back in Oct, William was abled to hand-pull all the weeds in my backyard and mow my lawn in preparation for the winter. He had made sure there's no grass clippings leftover as I was allergic to Bermuda grass so his service was helpful for my health. Initially, did an amazing job and was going to be my go-to lawn guy once the grass is growing again the Spring. Recently for the Spring, I asked him for the same service, weed removal (expecting hand-pulled like last time), lawn mowing, and pre-emergent weed treatments. Total cost was $170 but I gave him $200 especially for gas prices and he had to go pick up supplies. Well, he weed whacked everything instead and it splatter all over the white painted sidings of the new house. He offered to pressure wash and clean the sidings from the mess he created. He also offered to put down additional weed treatment to help control the weeds. He was late for the original Spring service (after I asked him to push the service an hour later). He was a no-show on Saturday to cleaning up weed clippings splattered over the sidings. I had to call him multiple times and he said his customer unexpectedly requested mulch installation and said he can come by at 8am on Sunday. Today, He was a no-show today. I had to call him and he woke up at 10am. He was still a no show after multiple calls. Very disappointed. I wasted almost half my day waiting. Lots of excuses. I understand life happens but lack of communication and method of weed removal was the final straw. Off to continue to find my go-to lawn service person. Initial service in Oct 2025 was 5/5. Follow-up Mar 2026 service 2/5. Do not recommend.

As a result, we had no idea where any of our irrigation control systems were located. After one of the zones stopped working, we needed someone to fix the problem. We wanted to find a firm that was local, small (so we knew who we were working with), but also big enough that they were an established business, with a website, someone who answered the phone and would be around to help in the long run. After reading some reviews, we picked JD's Irrigation Services. To our delight, JD's Irrigation Services came just a few days later and had the entire system untangled and fixed in a day! They located several wire breaks (due to growing tree roots) and located all of our valve boxes in just a few hours. I had spent a few days prior to this trying to fix it myself (without success) and they had it all fixed within a day. In hindsight, I should have called them at the start and just let them fix it. In my case, they were masters with their locating equipment and were able to solve all of the electrical issues at very reasonable rates. They had everything they needed with them and were able to fix it all in a single visit.

However, Im a potential new client... I ask to make an appointment to get a quote. "Since you're an HOA, we charge a consultation fee. Thats how we handle it.". I say "Well then, I am not interested." and hang up the phone. Let me give you some advice... If you have a potential new client on the phone and the first thing you start with is fee this or fee that... You are not going to get that client. You have no idea the work we want done here or the amount of projects you could have received. In your line of work, if you're good at what you do or charge the amount that is consistent with going rates, you wouldn't need to charge HOAs consultation fees. If I was random Joe Shmow, I wouldn't have been charged is what that tells me. So instead of coming out to show your work or what you could have done to gain more work, you were a bit rude and started with fees. You just lost some business.
