I came back to them now (6 years later), because I was gifted an old 1980s engagement ring that was, let's just say, not my style. I recently had the pleasure of doing business with this fine jeweler. They had come highly recommended by a co-worker of my mothers. I purchased a beautiful engagement ring for my girlfriend turned fiancee. Prior to coming in to their shop I emailed photos of the type of settings and stones I was interested in. When I arrived they had already pulled several options from their collection for me to choose from. Ultimately, I decided on a ring that had the halo design of one ring and the sides of another ring. They were more than happy to create it for me and my to be. Turnaround was about 2 weeks after they also ordered some additional stones for me to see. I dealt with the co-owner Mario and he was highly patient, educational and informative. Through the entire process I could tell he wanted to create something she and I would cherish forever. Furthermore, never once did I feel pressured to buy anything from them. I really appreciated that. Mario stayed open for an extra half hour when I went to pick up the ring, as I couldn't get there any sooner that night. Two years ago I walked into Iannelli Diamonds much the same way I walked into ten other places in the Diamond District thinking I was about to get a sales pitch on why I need to purchase an engagement ring on the spot without any further research. My plan was to take about two to three months to find the right ring. Likely it wasn't going to be on 47th at all, but I figured it's a good place to learn about all the C's and hone in on what I should be looking for. Well Joe turned the whole thing into an amazing educational experience. He taught me what to look for under the microscope with absolutely zero pressure to buy. I took all of Joe's teachings and I walked out as an educated consumer having not purchased a single thing. I went around to all the stores again in the district and distinctly understood the crap they were trying to pawn off on me. I came back in about a week to talk to Joe some more and look at some more of the ring options. Then about another 10 days later I came back a third time. Then a fourth, then a fifth, on and on. I have nothing but the highest praise and sincerest gratitude. Mario and the rest of his associates were a pleasure to work with. I was looking to purchase an engagement ring for my girlfriend. I had already done my homework online, including the obligatory sites like bluenile.com. The problem with those websites is that although two diamonds may have identical GIA reports, they can look completely different in person: one may sparkle like a firework and the other may look like a dud, but you won't know until you receive it in the mail. I also visited other jewelers in the Diamond District of NYC, and had a very unpleasant experience. One particular dealer was cold, insincere, and didn't even offer the magnifying glass to look at the diamonds: that one particular dealer didn't even pretend to care that what I was doing was a special and momentous occasion. That's when a friend recommended Ianelli Jewelers (and Mario specifically). I emailed Mario and showed up on a Saturday morning to look at stones and settings. Not only did Mario show me great diamonds, he also showed me lesser quality ones to better understand the differences, taught me how to properly look for certain details using the magnifying glass, instructed me to take the diamonds outside and observe how each sparkled in natural light, told me where to go to purchase insurance, etc. However, I am most grateful for the personal attention. After reading a number of reviews here and elsewhere, I decided to make this one of my stops while looking at engagement rings. I visited four different jewelers in the Diamond District, but came back because of the service I received from Mario and the rest of the team at Iannelli Diamonds. I called to set up an appointment before my first visit, giving a general idea of what I was looking for, and they had a pretty good selection of stones prepared when I arrived. Mario really took his time, explaining the process, the GIA reports, allowing me to compare a number of diamonds, and showing me what to look for when using the jewelers' loop. I left the first visit without a ring picked out, but with a good feeling about working with Iannelli Diamonds. When I called a few days later, after additional research and talking to another couple of jewelers, Mario remembered me right away, and even what I had been looking for and my price range. I set up a time to come in a day or two later, and he said he'd have some new stones to show me. The second visit went even better than the first, and he had a variety of diamonds that traded off between size, clarity and color, but all well within my price range. I found one I really liked, picked out a setting, and within a week the ring was ready. It was exactly what I wanted, and my fiancée loves it.
