The clientele and staff is mostly Roman. However, the staff made us feel very welcome and comfortable despite us being from out of town and speaking only English. They were happy to make suggestions, and were a happy and fun group of professionals. The food was very creative with fantastic flavour profiles. The purple potato gnocchi with fresh green peas is an inspiration and something I would never find at home. The Gnocchi was perfect and the peas tasted fresh and sweet. The other pasta dish had a thin layer of sliced prawn carpaccio under the pasta. This was thin enough to be lightly cooked by the pasta and add the sweet flavour of prawns to the dish. Every pasta we had was fantastic. We even ordered an extra dish at the end of our meal due to the quality of the opening rounds. The wine list is not too expensive, and full of local Roman flavours that the staff is happy to recommend. Don't miss out on desert. The tiramisu is an example of what a tiramisu should be. In short, if you are in Rome be sure not to miss this restaurant. Please treat the staff nicely, they are a good group of people running a small restaurant with a positive and creative attitude. They should be encouraged so we may all enjoy this gem for years to come.

I called them as soon as they were open and they agreed that if we arrived by 8pm they could seat us. While they're off the main drive along the River Tiber and only 3-4 blocks from the Supreme Court, this stretch of road does not get a lot of foot traffic so this is more of a word of mouth or locals restaurant. When we arrived there were only two other tables but within 15 minutes they were full. The staff was very friendly and tried to accommodate us in English (which they spoke quite well) rather than us struggling to order everything in Italian. They explained what we didn't understand and made suggestions for wine pairing. Our food was prompt and delicious. There were three of us but we'd ordered four entrees so we could sample. We ordered the tuna, the beef filet, and two homemade pasta dishes - one with chicken and one with beans, both of which were excellent. The tuna was wonderful and the steak was the best I'd had in months...truly. This was the best meal we'd had in Rome and likely anywhere in quite some time.

This ended up our least favorite of all restaurant establishments we sampled however, which still ranks a 3 or maybe a 3.5 in comparison to what might be available in the US. The bruschetta with fresh tomatoes was good, the version with a liver pate was not as exciting - so in retrospect just get all tomatoes version. Half the amount (4 pieces instead of 8) might have been better for the two of us also. My rigatoni carbonara was very good, flavorful and delicious, cooked perfectly al dente. My husband's veggie meatballs were dry and not exciting at all, they needed a sauce and some actual veggies. He described them like a falafel ball with very little veggies in the mix. I did not even try them as I am a much pickier foodie than he is. Each entree came with one side, and he got the grilled potatoes so not a great combination - too starch-heavy without actual veggies in the veggie-balls. My broccoli side was actually romanascu and it was very good. The interior of the restaurant was very hot, so we sat outside which was unexpectedly noisy due to the kitchen fan. However, the main reason we ranked down, was due to the end of evening experience, which we found unprofessional. Our waiter was cordial and helpful throughout, and even took a photo for us. However at the end he insisted upon us handing him a cash tip, and hovered at our table until it was provided. We had read that tipping is not the same in Italy and that tips are provided as a compliment but not as a percentage as we do in US. We found the request/demand for a tip to be quite uncomfortable, and it was the only time this happened to us in Italy (other than a run in with an unauthorized baggage handler at the train). It may be a cultural issue, as the staff at this restaurant is Moroccan or perhaps Bangladeshi. However, it felt like taking advantage of tourists and it was uncomfortable and stayed with us as part of the experience not being ideal.
