Great service and friendly staff, quick service and delicious food! The staff are moving at such a quick pace but they still remember to refill your drink and check up on you :).

We weren't sure what to expect when pulling up to the place, but once we entered it was evident this place has a really great atmosphere and feel to it. Bar style seating throughout most of the place and a couple large tables but the mirror running length of bar gives it a unique touch to see everything that's going on. Servers were super friendly and very attentive. Crab was good and very comparable to restaurants we had eaten at throughout the week. The edamame peas were amazing! One of the best we have had and the portions were plentiful.

Although this place has Mostly bar type seating with a few tables, the place is comfortable. There is a row of bar stools facing the back wall, but in a cool twist, the restaurant has a mirror the runs the length of the entire wall that allows those sitting on these chairs to see everything that is going on, instead of looking blankly into a dead space. Service was friendly and helpful. I started with a cup of oyster stew. The broth was very good with a unique spice i could not put my finger on. The stew was also loaded with Oysters. I also had 2 tacos, the 1st one was fired founder and the other was fried scallops. Both had shredded cabbage and an outstanding mango salsa. While I like the scallops better, the fish was massive and cooked perfectly. The wife ordered soft shells after the server told us they were fresh which I thought was odd as they normally are not in season until March. Regardless she enjoyed them very much. The wife also had to try the Steamed potatoes. Steamed potatoes must be an OBX thing as outside a seafood boil we never really seen them served on their own yet but almost all restaurants seem to serve them. Again another part of her meal she enjoyed. Finally the wife had a side order of hush puppies which came with an amazing dipping sauce which seemed to be a cross between a browned butter sauce and candied apple. Trust me you need to try this.

Loved this place. The Blue crab nachos I will be dreaming about for years to come. Wait staff is friendly and kept our sweet tea full! They only have counter seating, but it is worth it!

I tool a trip to the OBX and i was looking for some good seafood at first I was hesitant, there are many seafood restaurants around in the area but not all have a good food, however this place didn't disappointed me. I got a soft crab sandwich and was very delicious and good size, i had some steam potatoes and they were very well seasoned, my friend got some crab legs and fried crab with cheese broccoli, that was her first time trying both and she was very satisfied. ( i want to thank you to the waitress unfortunately i forgot her name but she was very helpful, she helped my friend and explained to her how to eat and extract the meat from the crab she was so patient). Definitely this is a place that i would recommend.

Still AMAZING!!! Stopped back in and all the food was still so good! We had crab legs, fried shrimp taco, crab soup, and hush puppies and one dish was just as good as the next. Service is still great, and they make you feel right at home. Always make sure you have what you need/want. The place is still the same small size but if you work it at the right times (getting there early you won't have a problem!

I had lunch today during the soft shell crab week on the Outer Banks. The seafood here is always fresh and well prepared. We sat at a stainless steel bar, with brown paper as our table cloth. Our server fixed me up with 4 soft shell crabs and ear of steamed corn on the cob. It was super.

    Fried oysters

Holy cow, this place is so fresh and delicious! Service is also very friendly and surprisingly fast. Top-notch, cannot recommend enough.

What are the individual market prices for the local blue crabs for all of the sizing from Regular to Large?

I suggest calling them for the answer as sizes offered and availability from day to day can vary due to weather and the season.

I woke up...and had a delicious time! The reviews here tell you how great this place is, and well...believe them! I thought for sure it would be over-hyped and not live up to what people write and say, but I will admit to being wrong. First, our server, Krickett, was agreed upon (by my partner and I) to be the best server we have ever had. She was friendly, outgoing, had good recommendations, and an all-around joy. Second, the food! Wow! My partner had a salad...simple enough, right? But no, she was amazed by it. And she is a vegetarian, so she has had a lot of salads over the years. This one blew her away. I had the grilled chicken sandwich. Was it life-changing? No. But it was way better than what a grilled chicken sandwich normally is. It was tender, juicy, with just the right seasoning. I would be a criminal if I didn't mention the bruschetta...get it with the burrata...it is worth it! The crispy bread with balsamic drizzle is good enough with the diced tomato mix, but the cheese gives it a new level. And, I hope you saved room for dessert, because the key lime pie was a mouth explosion.

The restaurant has two distinct dining areas: the front section is first-come first-served bar seating that offers the full menu. The back section, which would be ideal for families, holds about 30 tables, mostly booths, with the hostess stand. We chose to sit at the bar and had a great experience. We started with bruschetta topped with burrata cheese. I ordered the angel hair pasta in a white garlic butter, cream sauce with marinated chicken and grilled vegetables. My husband ordered the special hamburger with Swiss cheese bacon, spinach and mayo with a side of fries. We ended with slices of the key lime pie that didn't disappoint! The food, service, staff and environment were exceptional! We overheard the Server mention that veterans receive complementary meals on Veterans Day, which speaks volumes about how this restaurant supports those who have served. If you are in the Outer Banks- whether you're staying in Kill Devil Hills or nearby- this restaurant is worth the drive and all the hype!

It has always been good, and we definitely won't let this deter us from returning. Ms T had her usual Shrimp basket lunch. The issue was that the shrimp were not cooked through. They were still translucent. We totally understand not wanting to overcook shrimp, but these were not quite done. On the bright side she commented on how good the slaw was. I have been on a kick to try barbecue at restaurants that are not barbecue joints per se, to see if I can find some hidden gems. For example, both Sam & Omie's and Wanchese Marina serve a good barbecue sandwich. Black Pelican, at least on this day, does not. I must say, the serving was huge. This was more than enough for two meals for me. The barbecue was dry and not well flavored. The texture and flavor was more like dried out beef that has been over-roasted. This is not something I would order again here. All that being said, I am leaving the rating for Black Pelican as it is because we have always had good meals here. I accept that it can't be 100% perfect every time and sooner or later we will run into something that is less than stellar. We will continue to return. I just know this not where I will have barbecue and we are sure the shrimp thing was just a one timer.

This was one of the few places that when we called around, didn't have a crazy long wait time so we ended up going here for dinner. The risotto was really good! The flavors were excellent and the seafood tasty. The portions were decent and I can see why it's one of their best selling dishes. I would totally get this again. The woodfired pizza was good but nothing to rave about. I got the Aloha one with pineapples, chicken, scallions and a white sauce. We got the bruschetta as an appetizer and that was really good - it also came out pretty fast. The rest of the food took a while to come out. The service was also not very fast. I might recommend this place from an ambience and historical perspective and maybe the food, but definitely not the service.
