I Am A Cake located near Shuter and Church is a Korean cafe serving coffee, cakes, and other baked goods (scones, financiers, and cream madeleines). They originally had a location near Yonge/Steeles but now are located downtown. The shop has 7 tables and seating for about 20 customers. The interior of the shop is bright yellow with other bright decor to match. Even on a cloudy day the shop will make you smile with it's bright colours. They are fully accessible and have free wifi as well.
Menu wise, in terms of beverages, they have coffee, matcha and hibiscus tea available. They have your classic espresso based drinks like Americanos and lattes but also do things like a mocha latte or caramel latte. In terms of matcha, they have a variety of unique matcha drinks - think strawberry matcha, matcha cream, mango matcha, and coconut matcha. Their hibiscus teas are also iced.
Regarding their baked items, their cakes are popular where they have their signature Victoria cake (a buttery pound cake with silky buttercream and raspberry jam), matcha cheesecake (with mango jam), chocolate cheesecake, as well as a chestnut cheesecake). They also have 6 different cream madeleine flavours (matcha, earl grey, custard, mugwort, chocolate, and coffee) as well as 4 financier flavours (plain, coffee, chocolate matcha and earl grey). Their scones are also filled with flavours like red bean and butter, blueberry, as well as caramel. Lastly, they also have Dubai chewy cookies as well for sale!
I stopped by I Am A Cake on a Thursday mid-afternoon. The place was busy but I was still able to find a table to enjoy a coffee and snack. Looking at the display of baked goods, it was difficult to pick what to try. I should have gotten a slice of cake but I ended up getting 2 cream madelines. I also opted to get their signature iced cream latte. Service was friendly and my items were made at a reasonable time. I picked up my order in less than 5 min at the counter.
Sitting down I enjoyed the bright vibes of the space. During my time there there was a steady flow of customers coming in to purchase items. Both my madelines were filled with either custard cream or earl grey cream which was tasty. The cream latte wasn't sweetened but was made well. A good afternoon snack on a gloomy day.
Overall, a cute Korean cafe with a variety of cakes and baked goods. The drink menu has a good mix of hot and cold drinks where there is something for everyone. Would definitely want to return to try their cakes! read more
