Stayed here in winter when the prices are much more reasonable for Paris.
A little out of the way from the main tourist areas of Paris, however this hotel is located directly between two very convenient Metro stops: Corvisart and Place d'Italie, which made connections anywhere in Paris relatively easy.
It's proximity to Place d'Italie meant an enormous variety of local restaurants to suit almost any taste. There's actually a very nice small Indian restaurant just around the corner, Kannimaaraa, with a friendly staff (though the chai was pretty so-so).
Though close to Place d'Italie and sitting on the large Bd Auguste Blanqui, the windows provided exceptional quiet. The room was small, as is typical of European hotels, but nicely furnished. Typical Hotel Mercure modern-style. I didn't opt for a large suite, and the standard room was sufficient with a view out onto the little Rue du Moulin des Pres.
The lobby is quite nice and there is a small bar next to the lobby for a glass or two of wine. The staff was as friendly as Parisian staff get, sometimes a warm 'bonjour,' other times a blank stare. The only issue I had with the hotel was at the check-in. I had paid for breakfast with the room, but initially the clerk said they had no evidence of that. After a long flight, longer delays, and having the Eurostar break down halfway to Paris, I was in no mood to argue at the time. But the next day it had all been cleared up by the time I approached the front desk.
The continental breakfast was sadder than most. Limited, which I'm used to, but the croissants tasted stale and the coffee was horrendous. Only the yogurt managed to make the meal manageable. Next time I would skip the hotel breakfast as there are a number of places directly adjacent and on the Place to get a quick cup of cafe and a croissant.
NOTE: Just in front of the hotel is held the local street market usually twice a week (at least in winter) where you can buy all sorts of food to stock up on in your hotel room. Alas, there is no fridge in the room however. Sadness! My suggestion would be to get up one morning, get yourself one of those magnificent roast chickens and potatoes, wrap it up, and save it for a later lunch. Also once a week is a flea market where you can pick up odds and ends.
There is also an indoor mall on the Place to find all kinds of items...if you like malls. read more
