This place is just getting underway and it's evident. I stopped in for an early dinner, and I basically had the "Rice Bowl," but in lieu of the rice I had it was ramen noodles with chicken. It was a nice bowl, but they initially forgot to place the chopped scallions, black sesame seeds, and the red ginger slivers a top of the chicken that was nicely placed over the noodles. It was an easy fix and my friendly server quickly rushed it back to the kitchen where they made the correction. The chicken a top was good. A little sweeter than I would of liked but it was tender and flavorful. I would recommend they pay a little more attention to the butchery because some of the pieces still had a little fatty pieces and cartilage. The noodles were good, perhaps a little dry, so I added a bit of soy. They tasted good and were cooked just right to give that fun texture when you eat them. The addition of the scallions, ginger, and sesame seeds gave the dish some pop. They were great, but the addition of one vegetable, such as a bit of bokchoy or cabbage, to the meal would of been great. Also, they need to remember to carry Shichi-mi tōgarashi. They did not have any, and it would of made a difference with my noodles and chicken. read more

Great place but still a take out joint so hard to think of it as 5 star. My daughter and I came by for what I call "date night" and she calls "whatever". She started a ramen kick but it's been that stuff in a styrofoam cup. It was time for something more palatable and we wanted to stick close by. Yelp to the rescue. I ordered her a tonkotsu based bowl with chicken while I went with a ahi poke bowl. We also ordered some gyozo to get things going. The poke bowl was fabulous with uber fresh ingredients and a nice mix of flavors. The dumplings were good with a crispy shell and yummy stuffed inside. Been here once before and it was pretty good. Walked in a few min before closing time tonight May 1, 2024. Door was wide open and customers inside. Nice lady at the bar said "sorry we are closed". If you want to close five minutes before 8 then post your closing time as 7:55. This is one of my biggest irritations with the service industry these days. I've driven past this place a few times now and finally got to try it. I'm going to start with the good! The prices are reasonable for high quality and filling dishes. The poke bowl was excellent and the Rancher roll is now one of my favorites! Such a great combo. Really everything we tried was very enjoyable. Everyone was satisfied with their rolls and on top of it, the service was great. Really attentive and moved really quickly despite being pretty busy. The not so good: We all know it's been hot these days. So for those of us without air-conditioning, when we go out, out to eat especially, we appreciate some cool air. Not even cold air, just some cool air flow in general. Am I right? As soon as we walked in, the heat hit you in the face. It was so, so hot. So. Hot. Like the stifling, stagnant, no air flow heat. I seriously have no idea how the chefs manage to stay alive back there if it's always like that. Thankfully there was one fan going at the back of the restaurant and no one was seated there so we took that table... if not this would be a 3 star review just because of the atmosphere being that unbearable. The food here is absolutely delectable. I ordered the Ramen bowl with Katsu chicken. And it was very delicious. The food was great, the staff were great, the seating inside was great, everything was great. However there can be a bit of a wait time on the weekends. I worked in food service and restaurant management for the last 20 years, so I've seen it all and very little bothers me, but after my experience I decided to write a review. Front of house staff needs to go through Food Handlers class again. 6 months ago I went with a friend and the server dropped my fork on the ground when she brought it to me and gave me the floor fork to eat my food with, so I just used the chopsticks on the table. I gave them another chance today and the same server touched my food with her bare fingers right after she placed it in front of me because she thought there was plastic on it. She's friendly and has good customer service, but management please teach your young staff proper food handling. read more

It is a nice little clean spot by the movie theater. I generally order my food to go. The customer service is good, and they are generally prompt, though some items take longer as they are made to order. I also like their shrimp tempura to go with my poke bowl. Pretty decently priced. The last time I was here was pre-pandemic and it was for ramen but on this night we were here for poke bowls and sushi!! I have always loved the ramen but I must say the poke bowls weren't to shabby however I think they could have done with more salmon and tuna and less rice. I had a rainbow roll which was good and the tempura shrimp with veggies was REALLY good lol!! This place is always busy so I highly recommend a early dinner. We got lucky and there was a table outside, seating is limited and tight inside. Currently sodas/drinks are by can/bottle only this includes water as well. I really want to like this place. Honestly, nice people at the cash register, nice owner, good food. However, each and every single time we order delivery it's messed up. Something is ALWAYS left out. We've given this place about a dozen chances but they consistently mess up our order. Tonight they forgot an entire Tonkotsu Ramen. Last time they forget two items. Tried them when they first opened and was not impressed, but recently gave them another shot and was pleasantly surprised. The prices are good and portions abundant. The spicy miso ramen was perfectly seasoned (no need to upgrade with a $1 fireball) but the pork was excessively fatty and subsequently some pieces inedible. The Shoyu ramen with chicken was also tasty and provided a better protein option as the numerous chicken pieces were lean and moist. Staff were hospitable and efficient. I frequent the ramen shops up in Kearny Mesa... but ramen gets expensive and Kearny Mesa is a pretty far drive for me. When I saw that there is now a ramen spot in Rancho, I knew I had to check it out. The price is extremely attractive. $9.25 gets you a bowl of ramen at this counter-service ramen shop. It includes your choice of protein (pork, chicken, or beef) and broth (tonkotsu, spicy miso, or shoyu) and includes all the toppings: egg, fish cake, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, corn, green onion, pickled ginger, seaweed, and roasted sesame seeds. Adding a "fireball," spice ball costs $1 extra. They also have a vegan option made with tomato broth, tempura tofu, zucchini, sweet potato, and onion. I opted for the spicy miso broth, chicken as my protein, and added the spice ball. Overall, it was good- a lot better than I was expecting, even. The meat and egg were both cooked beautifully and the noodles were al dente and springy. While the broth was nice and flavorful, I noticed a touch of acidity that I am not accustomed to in a ramen bowl- almost as if lime had been squeezed into the broth. I suspect that this flavor profile could also be because of the pickled ginger (which I will opt to leave out next time). While I enjoyed the initial spice level, the spice ball gave me the spice level that I most enjoy after it dissolved completely. The remainder of the toppings were just solidly "okay," for me. The corn was nice and the bean sprouts added a nice, fresh crunch to the bowl. The flavor of the seaweed didn't come through as much as I would have liked and the bamboo shoots seem canned. I would have preferred to see something like fresh cabbage as a topping instead. While I'm not confident that this will ever be my favorite bowl of ramen in San Diego, I'll give it points for being a good value, being in my back yard, and offering beer and wine. I can see myself coming back for ramen when I have a ramen craving and can't make it to my favorite spots. However, after seeing the beautiful presentation on other diners' tables, I can't help but want to try the rice bowls and sushi here on my next visit. Overall, I can't help but think that this ramen/rice bowl/poke spot is a lovely addition to the offerings in Rancho and I look forward to returning. read more
