BUYER BEWARE!!! I bought this product after having issues with another under-the-counter water filter company. Even though I have experience with basic plumbing projects, I didn't take any chances and had it professionally installed by a licensed plumber. The next day, we noticed it was leaking. The plumber came back and took out the filter, re-installed it, and it started leaking again. In his words: "I don't trust it." We just moved back into our house after 4 months when another water filter busted and flooded our home, so we had the Hydroviv filter removed. I'm not risking it and do NOT trust Hydroviv or their under-the-counter water filter products. I am posting a review here because I submitted the above review on their website but they censored it and won't allow it to post on their site. I have asked 6 times for a reason why and no one will answer my question. You cannot trust their website reviews when they only allow certain ones (overwhelming positive) to post. Their phone number doesn't work, their chat doesn't work, and the only way to communicate with them is via email, which, in my experience, takes 2-3 emails and a week before getting a response. Do NOT purchase this defective product. The filter doesn't work. Water tastes awful. Tested it ourselves with an at home kit, and it isn't pure as advertised. Further, the unit leaks. Lastly and most importantly, despite explaining the above, the customer service is non existent. They are extremely rude and resend the same cookie cutter template responses with perhaps one sentence or two embedded within the template to address your particular concerns. I exchanged emails with a few people, but Shane was particularly snarky, unpleasant, unhelpful and beyond unreasonable. As you can see, he has been given 1 star, low reviews by other customers, as well. It is a shame the company is not realizing basic business etiquette and the importance of customer service. Despite the defective filter not working and leaking, they will do everything under the sun to get SOME payment from their customers: whether it be with the product sale, subscription or with a "restocking" "return" fee that is outrageously high. It is quite unfortunate. After their failure to work out an amicable solution of allowing me to return their defective product for a full refund, as would be the only fair solution in this case, I am left with no other option but to spend more of my time to submit a claim with my credit card company as this business is falsely advertising a product that does not work, and remain wholly unhelpful. Don't do it. After the first 3 months you can not replace the filter. The water is disgusting and you have a terrible hole on your countertop. My contractor recommended this company and I trusted him so didn't do my own due diligence. Meh... They don't stand behind their product. I waited to review until I got to use the under the sink filter and the shower filter work for a while before I give my feedback. I would say that the city water tastes a bit better and I have not smelled that occasional chlorine smell that comes through in city water. The shower water is still hard though and didn't improve effect on skin and hair. My hope for softer skin and smooth hair wasn't realized with this filter. Still irritated and frizzy. My under the sink unit doesn't leak, but the shower filter leaked after about a month. I didn't tell them about it and decided to live with it. However, right around the time I was considering buying a refill of the shower filter, the filter fell into my tub just as I started the shower. It brought down the shower head with it. It scared me. Luckily I wasn't hurt but the shower head got damaged and had to be replaced. I bought a new shower head and now there is no point in ordering a refill since I can see that the case for the filter is not made to last. Turns out it's a weak plastic threading that cracked tending the unit defective. Hydroviv didn't seem surprised nor did they show any care. They suggested I just buy another unit, the case and the filter. They didn't even offer to at least replace the putter casing that separated. Looks like they expect people to buy the two piece unit every year instead of just the refill. These filters are overpriced, faulty, and could cause harm. read more

Hydroviv is basically an Overpriced water pitcher filter. Fell for the scam being in a GENEX area, and purchased under sink, fridge and shower head filters which is ridiculously high at 375.00. Only opened the under sink one and after horrible time with the install, the water quality was no different from the tap water. Tested it using a water analysis. The company is horrible to deal with in returns. No one answers the phones due to high call volume, Shane with customer service is very unprofessional. Ended up paying 44.00 in shipping. Be aware before buying these filters , I would give negative starts if I could , you will definitely need a Plummer , also before you buy the product make sure the size of your pipes are the same size of the filter pipe connections. you might have to buy extra pieces to adapt the connections, in my case I won't be able to use them because of the pipe being a different size of the filter pipe and connection. I was advised from my Plummer to return the filters because he needs to change the whole pipe of my kitchen before attaching this filter. I am attaching photos so you can see... Also, when it comes to returning it, HYDROVIV CHOSE NOT TO cover the shipping. Under-the-sink filter was installed by a plumber when he installed the kitchen sink. I've used it for just over 2 years now, and every time I change the filter, I struggle to open the housing. The cold water was turned off and drained. There are videos by plumbers showing how to open stuck housings, so it must be a common problem. I used the blow dryer on it for over 10 min, then had my husband try to unscrew it as I held it. Each time took over an hour of heating with blow dryer and trying again. I coated the threads with silicone grease. That seemed to work, once. I just paid the plumber $90 to work his magic to get it open. If this happens again, I'm going to disconnect the whole thing and buy a Berkey. The water tastes good, but the filters are expensive and a pain in the neck to change. read more

It is the most frustrating thing despite the directions making it seem so simple. You literally have to put your whole body weight into trying to get the holder to unscrew and screw back enough to not leak. I experience so much rage every time I have to do it that I finally started to look into it because I couldn't understand how the product had so many 5 star reviews. It's very suspicious that on their website the only reviews are 5 star and they have soooo many of them. Like people posting reviews every day. His tone was nothing short of aggressive and his response to my valid concerns was completely inappropriate. While I understand that such adjustments are part of business, what I found truly disappointing was the lack of consistency. If you prefer we cancel your subscription due to your distrust, please, let us know. Shane Hydroviv Customer Support" An act of goodwill could have been the company proactively reaching out to implement this change. They transitioned to a more affordable refill cartridge system and lowered the subscription cost for new customers. However, they retained the higher price for loyal older customers, even though they also switched to the cheaper refill system. I'm told to find contentment in the price adjustment they made for me because it wasn't obligatory. While it's true there was no obligation, there was a moral imperative, and the way I was made to feel undervalued is entirely unacceptable. In light of this encounter, I urge the company to seriously reevaluate its customer service practices. Every customer deserves to be treated with respect and have their concerns addressed in a calm and courteous manner. While I hope my feedback contributes to positive changes, I regretfully cannot recommend the company's customer service based on my own experience. I was really optimistic about trying this product. I purchased it last year and although I admit I kept putting it off. Finally about 2 months ago I tried to install it. I followed the youtube video instructions and when I went to turn on the cool water shut off valve the filter started to leak profusely. I uninstalled it and packed it up. I reached out to the customer service agent Matt and he provided me with a different video and I yet again, went to reinstall it hoping for a different outcome and.... had no luck. This time the leak was worst and I had to get our building's maintenance guy to come fix the leak that the filter had caused my sink. I informed Matt about the issue, He then asked to provide a video after the fact of having undergone that experience. Now, I have a defective filter and i'm out $180. Unfortunately after having installed this system, I changed the cartridge twice, each time with great difficulty. The third time, it was impossible to unscrew the filter and we had to disconnect the entire system. Also , there is a great loss of pressure using this system. Only place to make a public review for hydroviv, so doing my first yelp in maybe a decade. I'm for the first couple months it worked fine with an acceptable amount of water pressure, however after 2-3 months it became unusable. Contacted support and they asked me to do a flow rate test for 12 oz of water. With the filter on it took 30.6 seconds to fill the 12oz. Without the filter, my tap could fill that amount in 3.26. They said maybe the cartridge was clogged and gave me two options, one time replacement of a cartridge or to open up the pore size of the cartridge. I asked if there was a way to see the cartridge and notice any blockage before deciding and got no reply. I used a water testing kit with and without the filter and it came back pretty much exactly the same. I probably don't need a filter in that case, so not sure why the cartridge would be clogged. read more

I wish I had read these reviews before I purchased an under sink water filtration system from Hydroviv. Luckily, I did not install it. I ordered the system from Hydroviv and attempted to remove the filter from the diverter housing and was unable to do so after several attempts. The filter wound NOT budge. for reference - I am 6' 190lb lifter and multi-sport athlete. I called Hydroviv and was met with much of the same disdain that many of the other reviewers in this forum encountered. I was told that I would have to pay a restocking fee after deciding to return the unit. After a bit of back-and-forth with Hydroviv I decided that I wasn't going to waste anymore time and relented - I shipped the unit back and received my refund - minus the restocking fee. I decided that it wasn't worth my time to fight with them any longer and it was worth it to have it over and done with. Do not buy anything from Hydroviv! I was told to install the system anyway. Why would anyone do that? I cant remove the filter cap!! If installed they would not accept a return. Returns are a joke with this company too! I told them my issues, im disabled, a veteran, older and cant open the cap holding the filter. They dont have a customer friendly return policy. You have to pay the shipping to send this back and top of all this they charge you a 25% restock fee!! its defective! Its a scamming company that feeds upon disabled older folks. I was told exceptions could be made for the restocking fee. Then I was told after sending it back that there are no exceptions. It was uninstalled, in the original box with nothing missing. In conclusion, I wont be buying any other products from Hydroviv. I recommend staying away from this company because they are unprofessional and scammers. Filter arrived, it didn't fit my cold water line. Asked for guidance from the 'water nerds' they had nothing to tell me. Took two trips to Home Depot and $20+ worth of parts to convert the line, not complicated, but had to engineer the solution on my own (1/2" pipe to 5/8" converter to Hydroviv to 5/8" to 1/2" hose to connector to 1/2" hose to sink). Hooked up the Hydroviv, got good pressure, let it run, all good. Next morning woke up, water was a trickle. Asked for advice from support. They wanted me to take the thing apart and test each piece. I did. I couldn't determine if it was the filter or the pre-filter causing the problem. They offered to send a replacement part. either the filter or the pre-filter, but I didn't know which to request. They probably should have just immediately sent me both. Water pressure returned randomly later that day. Then the next day there was no water coming out of the faucet at all. Bought an Aquasana and swapped it out to see the difference, it worked perfectly out of the box, no issues. Decided to utilize the 'free return' since it was clearly defective or badly designed. They charged me for shipping both ways. So this 'free trial' of their water system actually cost me over $50. I wouldn't recommend the experience. read more

have been using Hydroviv for a year. we are renting. I would not continue if it was my own home I would install a full water improved system. But we persist as it does remove the chlorine smell but does not improve taste. we have the filter on its own tap system and only use the water for washing, cooking vegetables. I am not even happy to use for this but it's a step improved from Houston area water- don't get me started in poor quality water residents are provided. we use a separate bench top filter for drinking. . we come from Australia with excellent drinking water. we live in Houston Texas area where drinking water is really not fit for consumption. the chlorine is ghastly, leaves white film in pans, taste is vile, can only imagine what this does to your gut. So I loved the concept of this, AND the fact that employees were so responsive. This is rare these days. The "water nerds" were great in terms of explaining what was in my water and how they would be sending me a specific filter designed for my needs. However...the execution was problematic. First, the installation instructions were a bit off. It stated to insert the tube a half inch into the valve--which didn't work. Eventually, after discussing this with a plumber and looking at my valve vs. newer ones, we realized that a half inch was impossible--it just needed to be enough to make a firm connection. BOOM. Done. Ok, that worked. However, upon "powering up" the unit, it leaked from the housing--and not just a little. It literally came flooding out. I unscrewed the housing as instructed, reset the o-ring and it was just as bad. Clearly I had a defective unit. Now I could have dealt with that. Mistakes happen. However, even though it was brand new and clearly during the 30 return period, THEY CHARGED ME for return shipping for the DEFECTIVE unit. They wanted it insured (good call) so it was $35. I found this incredibly upsetting and decided to go with another company. Two stars because the responsive employees and tech, but zero for the business model. I wish I could rate the product, but never had a functioning unit and decided not to take the chance of being out another $35. Frustrating to say the least. read more

This will not take you 15 mins to install. The first step will be figuring out what is what when you take it out of the box because nothing is labelled (e.g. is this the filter for my sink or for my ice maker? NO way to know.) The first instruction will tell you to do something that doesn't work. If you contact customer service, they will take 2 days to get back to you and tell you something so factual that it should have just bee in the instructions (e.g. you have to turn the filter half a turn, but if you can't get it to turn at all, then it is tight enough and doesn't need to be turned). You ice maker filter will probably need an extra stainless-steel braided line, which will not come with the filter, but is absolutely required if your tubing is stainless steel. THey also sell the tubing so why not just ask what kind of tubing I have before I buy it and they sell me the tubing with the filter? You may have unique connections (and NOT because you live in an old house - my house is 9 years old) that will require a plumber to install, so that will double the cost of your filter (at least) and obviously won't take anywhere near 15 minutes. THEY charge A 25% RESTOCKING FEE FOR RETURNS. read more

We also needed to get a new faucet as it was leaking and we could no longer get parts. Right now I couldn't be happier. It works great! The big test will be when I change the filter myself. Very bad experience over all with the product. The cheap plastic hook up failed and came off under pressure shortly after installing it. We where out dinner and came back to a flooded home. I'm still in the process of getting the damage repaired from the flooding. I emailed into support and asked for another fitting so I could at least use the filter. And I was told on numerous occasions I would have to buy a whole new one. When I asked for a return label to ship the unit back, to exchange it. I was told I was out of the 30 day return window and would have to send a series of photos and what not so they could evaluate if it was valid for an exchange. So I reached out to hydroviv and they repeatedly wanted a flow rate to better determine the cause, apparently. Without the flow rate I could not get help. So I told them the filter is in the trash. I can't speak to the filter itself, as I was not able to install it. However, I spent $283.78 on the system and when I returned the filter within the 30-day period, they only reimbursed me for $218.47. When I reached out to them they said: "Our products are customized for your specific water when we receive your order. Due to this nature, additional handling is required when receiving your item back." - That is a joke. It doesn't bother me to pay for return shipping... but to receive $65.58 less for something I never used is completely unacceptable. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Just two months after buying and installing their sink filters, I got a call from a neighbor telling me a stream of water was flowing out of the first floor of my house. Before this point I had no issues with the installation, but when I arrived home there was water damage everywhere. I've attached one picture where water leaked through the first floor and parts of the ceiling had to be removed. Hundreds had to be spent repairing the damage. The lower cabinetry had to be removed. The ceilings in the house had to be replaced due to water damage, and parts of the walls as well. Many of my personal items were water damaged as well. The house was deemed unlivable and I was forced to put everything in storage and find a new home. Amidst this chaos, I forgot to cancel the auto subscription. They charged me another 500 for filters they sent without my confirmation, presumably to the location that was flooded. When I reached out explaining the situation, they showed no sympathy. They did not care that their product had already caused me tremendous loss and didn't even have the decency to allow me to speak to a human about the situation. We received a defective unit, the tubing valve fit our sink but the valve on the filter was entirely different, they sent a new lid but despite several attempts to tighten and fix, the unit leaked at the lid. Terrible customer service and I did not feel that they were transparent regarding their return practices when I asked them in an e-mail PRIOR to placing an order. They stated in the e-mail that the return policy was 30 days and then provided an external link to the entire policy which apparently includes a 25% restocking fee and responsibility for return shipping. I felt this was misleading. If they were going to provide an external link they should have said NOTHING about the 30 day return policy and provided ONLY the external link to the return policy in the e-mail (or included the ENTIRE return policy in the e-mail, not just PART of it). I asked to discuss the situation with a manger and was connected with someone named Shane. I provided him with documentation from my e-mail chain with the company, he was not very kind or helpful. I was unhappy with the resolution I got from him. He offered to lower the restocking fee to 10% and told me I was still responsible for the shipping. The package was unopened and unused and I asked about the return within 30 days. We just decided that a whole house filter better suited our needs because we wanted our bathing water filtered as well. There filter case randomly cracked in the middle of the night after 6 months of use and they REFUSE to acknowledge it was a faulty product or return the broken case to me. 1 Year Update: Water pressure declines over time. Pressure was probably 50% better when filter was new. I'm kind of used to the system now, so doesn't bother me much. Will continue to use the system. Water tastes fine (neutral - no minerality after initial few days). Nice not to have a pitcher of Brita floating about the counter tops. Nice to be able to use filtered water to wash produce, boil pasta, cook rice, etc. I will restate that installation is not difficult and I'm just a regular dude who can do some handy stuff around the house. The down side is that water sits in the filter reservoir under the sink and so comes out at room/under sink temperature. Would have prefered the water to be cooler. As a result i have not been able to avoid buying a refrigerator filter ($60) every 6 months as well. This system doesn't save me any money. It is convenient and eliminates clutter. read more

Submitting a review here because when I submitted a review for Google in response to email I received from "Eric from Hydroviv" it didn't appear in their Google reviews. Our kitchen faucet started leaking a day after installing the Hydroviv filter. Coincidence? Maybe. After several days and $$$ later, we finally had water again at our kitchen faucet. Then after about 3 weeks, the filter made an annoying knocking sound every time the cold water was turned off. I'm not sure how much "optimization" they do to the filter to match your water. When I asked for the data sheets, I received a scattered bunch of reports from 2016-17. I should have asked for those before I ordered. After being completely unimpressed with the data sheets that were over 5 years old and unrelated to my location, I did more research. I switched to Clearly Filtered. While it costs more than Hydroviv, it also removes many more contaminates. On the positive side, the filter was easy to install and uninstall. read more

I bought 4 of these and a fridge filter. Theyre pretty responsive when it comes making a purchase. After recieving it? Not so much. The water tasted like acid the first 2 days and gave me a stomachache. Dont trust their manual when it says its safe after flushing. Any being new to water filters I had a lot questions. Their head of support, Matt sports a condescending hipster photo when emailing you. I had to send multiple emails for several questions I needed answered. I had to resend multiple questions to get. a response. An indicator someone was either frustrated by these questions and or the company is underemployed. He takes days in between to answer them. As for expressing my disdain for not making it more apparent to customers it only filters one line? Matts answer was that it wasCLEARLY my fault because I don't watch youtube videos before I purchase something. I knew that I have to pay return shipping on these but I didn't think it'd be something so stupid as poor customer service by the head of support. My biggest fault was not doing more research on this company before I purchased from them. Would you trust someone with your water who is less than enthusiastic to answer about them? I suggest reading up on them on reddit Update: Called straight into Hydroviv to make my complaint against Matt and the only one that apparently does any kind of answering is Matt himself. He refuses to to transfer me to anyone higher up, making himself the only authority there at Hydroviv. When I went straight to making the complaint with him over the phone, he adruptly tells me to take it to email and hangs up! LOL Do consider the fact that he barely responds through email. He sounds every bit as condescending on the phone as he does through email. The professionalism at this place is non existent. Its like a third world company scamming people. I'm going to see if they'll miss with my refund once they recieve the items back or if I'll need to get my credit card company involved in this. read more
