The job I had was pretty straightforward - replace a kitchen faucet, replace a bathroom sink faucet, and replace a toilet fill valve. No emergency, but I needed the work done. I was supplying the parts. One company gave me a price quote that seemed standard, which, to my mind, seemed pretty high for what seemed to be about an hour's work (assuming two people). Another company said they needed to send a plumber out for an estimate. 1-800-Plumber gave me a pretty reasonable estimate (i.e., lower than the first) after confirming the work I needed in a phone call the day I made Yelp contact. We scheduled the visit for a few days later (I was on travel) within a 2-hour time window. Alex and his colleague came right in the middle of the window, and I had received a text message that they were on the way. The punch line is that Alex and a colleague (whose name I didn't catch) did a great job. One person worked on each faucet, and they installed both beautifully. They carefully tested for leaks in my presence and happily answered my questions. One then quickly replaced the toilet flush valve and demonstrated it to me while the other prepared the invoice on a tablet (the receipt was sent to my email). And they did accept a credit card, with no additional fee. The plumbers were very efficient in their work, courteous, and left things very clean, wiping up any spilled water and boxing the parts they replaced. I would happily use this company again and may call them back for some similar tasks.

I was informed that the pipes would have to be replaced because my system was corroded! During this conversation, I noticed that the *meter was still in place!! Earl informed me that the *meter would be removed and reinstalled in order to get to the water heater out of the space; I was remembering that it wasn't removed with the prior installation. Beware: Overpriced, Misleading, and Unhelpful…read more I called A&F Plumbing for a $59 service visit to find out why my water heater was not heating -- seemed reasonable. The tech was polite. That's where the positives ended. He relit the pilot light and THEN told me it was $250 just to relight the pilot light -- something most plumbers include in the basic fee. After paying that ridiculous charge, my water still never got hot. He didn't check, wait to see - - just said he relit it. He did make sure he had a sales pitch though. Without fully diagnosing the problem, he jumped straight to recommending a $875 burner assembly or a $5,250 replacement water heater, (complete with estimates) claiming mine was 11 years old, but my house is only 9 years old. Either the math was off, or they were hoping I wouldn't question it. I paid $250 for nothing -- no fix, no follow-up, just out the window, whoever recommended them should be ashamed of themselves. Definitely a bait-and-switch. If you're looking for real solutions and honest pricing, I strongly suggest calling someone else.
