Writing I had a new Hydrawise system installed last summer, and the experience has been consistently frustrating since day one. Within days of installation, I noticed that while the system indicated it was watering, no actual irrigation was occurring. After contacting support, I was told it was likely a wiring issue. I paid for a service call and had additional work done, including new heads installed in one of my zones. Now, at the start of this season, a new issue has surfaced--Zone 2 remains running simultaneously with Zones 3 through 6, which clearly points to a system or wiring fault. When I reached out for assistance, the response I received was disappointing. Before any inspection or troubleshooting, the representative immediately attributed the issue to lack of winterization and stated I would be charged again. This approach is concerning. As a long-time homeowner with a sprinkler system dating back to 2008, I have never encountered these types of recurring problems until upgrading to this controller. Even more troubling is the readiness to assign blame without first assessing the situation. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this service. The lack of accountability and customer-focused support does not align with the expectations for a professional installation and service provider. This had been a great company. They installed my sprinkler system several years ago and were easy to do business with. Everything changed last year. The company was acquired by an out-of-town private equity firm based in Jacksonville, Florida. Now it's impossible to get an appointment. The person who answers the phones has no authorization to do anything. What used to take one call to resolve now takes numerous calls, and even then, there's no resolution. When I finally got an appointment for a Spring turn-on of my sprinkler system, the tech showed up, discovered a leak and said he he didn't have time to fix it. He told me someone would be back within a week and the office would call to schedule. They didn't call. I had to call them. They offered an appointment over a month later--in June. The person who answered the phone claimed the technicians work 13 hour days and they're booked. So I'm supposed to go without using my sprinkler system during prime watering season because this PE firm is trying to strip every cent out of this company. This new incarnation of Hydro-Tech gave me an estimate that charged for parts--even though my warranty covers parts. It took three calls to resolve that and I had to forward my warranty document, which presumably the company has on file. It's impossible to get anyone in a senior leadership position on the phone. Calls to the PE firm go to voice mail. My advice: Stay away from Hydro-Tech. It's not worth the headache. read more

I can see why this company has such poor reviews probably due to their customer service. I just moved into the area, decided to keep the service that was already installed previously. I wasn't quite sure when to do spring turn on, and I was told by a representative that usually people do late May so that's what I did and now due to the drought my lawn is beginning to die, which makes an irrigation system useless if you can't turn it on. I said that I would pay extra to have a technician come out after hours and no response. On their automated service it says to hit zero and I would get a call back and that was a week ago and I'm still waiting. Today when I called customer service I was told by the automation that I was the next customer up and after seven minutes of waiting, it told me to leave a message and hung up on me. I finally got a hold of a representative and I was told that I'm still on the waiting list for a cancellation and I explained that I was deeply dissatisfied and to relay this to management and I was told to have a nice day. I'm deeply dissatisfied with my service all the way around so now I've had to buy a manual sprinkler system to keep my lawn alive. Shame, shame shame on Hydrotech irrigation. read more

Very poor customer service this spring - almost impossible to speak with a human. Text messages and phone messages are not acknowledged or answered. When in a cue waiting to speak with a representative, waiting calls are automatically terminated prior to speaking with the representative. Also, random service dates for spring turn ons are randomly assigned without verifying with the client their availability on the assigned date. read more

Been using Hydro Tech for my winterization and spring start up for 4 years. They have terrible customer service, scheduled an appointment and received an email confirming. Technicians were scheduled for 7am-noon, per the email, was supposed to get confirmation 24 hours prior. Never received a confirmation at all.. called the company and after being on hold for 25 minutes was told technicians arriving noon-5pm. WHAT????? I rearranged my morning schedule so I'd be here, then needed to rearrange my afternoon schedule. Called the company, left a message to get a call from a manager...nothing!! This is not the first time they emailed with a time period only to change it without advising me, extremely frustrating and unprofessional....terrible company!!!!!! read more

I have a horse training facility in Marshall, and for years a different company has maintained the sprinkler system that waters our outdoor riding arena. After a series of disappointing communications with that previous company, and a nearly $3000 estimate for some repairs that felt shady, I reached out to Hydro-Tech for a counter bid. Prompt communication right away, and then Phil schlepped out to us in the wilderness only to say that our system was, basically, fine, and no repairs were needed. We've been an extremely satisfied customer of Hydro-Tech for years. Recently they came out to install a special bubbler for additional watering right at the base of a thirsty cherry tree. Spring turn on service not performed correctly and HydroTech wouldn't stand behind their service. They have a policy that issues must be reported with 72 hours (irrigation set up by the technician to be at 4 AM and 3 times a week). How is this possible to check? They also were very expensive ($250 for turn on) and wanted to charge $300 to replace a $80 rain sensor. I don't recommend using this company. read more

Showed up within the timeframe they said they were coming, but for whatever reason needed to tell me the same thing they told my wife when we are both busy working. One is fine but needing to say the same thing twice while looking for something that doesnt exist because FFX county passes a new law is silly. Being patronizing because I'm annoyed you needed me to come out when Im busy with other things is the cherry on the cake. A lack of professionalism from your bearded tech is the hot fudge poured over the whole sundae. I dont care whatever you assessed was a "fail" I care that the job gets done so that it isnt a fail and it's up to compliance. I dont need long winded explanations, I just want the job done. Charged 150 dollars to change a rain sensor battery, in addition to a separate and recently increased cost for sprinkler dewinterization. The company that previously did my sprinklers, and was aquired by hydro tech, included this battery swap as part of dewinterization. They don't specialize in maintaining rainbird systems, yet they acquired a company and all of its customer data, that only used rainbird. Again scheduled spring turn on with great difficulty ( had prepaid which was a mistake). Guy came, said the system needs minor repairs, won't cost much & not showing what needed repairs. I became an ex-customer of this worthless company today. This is my second 1-star review of them. I can't believe I stuck with them the last time. But their deceptive pricing practices was the last straw. They say they charge at a rate of $150 per hour, but nowhere on their invoice or website do they tell you that there is a 1 hour minimum charge. And, the mark up parts by 300%. I recently paid $150 for a job that took the tech 15 minutes to complete and $35 for a sprinkler head that sells on Amazon for $12. These guys have 75 reviews....37 of them (now 38) are 1 star. In February I called them (I'm a customer) because I needed to have my service turned on which I had paid for in October. I also told them that I needed them to repair a line that had to be cut due to patio work. The cuts were marked by the company who cut the line to make it easier for Hydro tech. The 2 man crew showed up as scheduled on March 13. They told me it was going to be a big job and they would send a different crew that afternoon. They left without even installing the inti flow valve. Nobody has ever showed up. Now I have called several times since requesting a return call and a refund for the service I paid for in October. They did irrigation for both our home and rental property. The service person they sent to winterize did not flush the pipes. This lead to a pipe bursting outside on Christmas Day, flooding our yard and street, causing us to have no water on Christmas and a large holiday plumber bill. We've now had a second pipe leak - another fitting popped off, flooded the garage and caused us to have to gut the entire garage. It's costing thousands of dollars to repair, and they have been totally unresponsive. read more

This used to be a good company, when I first used them about 6 years ago. Recently, however, they came out to adjust and evaluate my irrigation system, to start the new season. I trusted the two technicians to make the necessary adjustments to best cover the lawn, flowers, and shrubs. Keep in mind that my wife and I always get compliments from or neighbors, friends, and family about how beautiful our landscape appears. Hydro-Tech, however, was not interested in adjusting the exsisting heads in the zones. Their motivation was to make the most profit possible at the expense of excellent customer service. Instead they came up with a long list of very expensive recommendations that I was supposed to implement. When I called them to complain about spending $ 185 for nothing but recommendations they said they would have to charge me again. I will never spend another dime with this greedy company who is not interested in customer service...it's all about keeping the cash rolling in!! When working on my neighbors home, they cut into my property, and damaged my dog's invisible fence. I called their office and left a message after spending 10 minutes navigating their phone tree. One week later, never received a call back. So I called again today. "Bridgette" refused to help, and verbally redirected me to their phone tree. At this point, I've left a message, and spoken to someone within the company and have received no help in resolving the issue. They've damaged my property and it cost me $175. Totally disrespectful of our time. They stated they had 7AM-12PM window today to come to service our sprinkler system as new customer. I called twice to check on the status of the appointment during the window. The first time, the attendant on the phone would not contact the tech to check and see if they were running on time. The second time I called, it was clear they would not be able to show up on time. They did not show up for initial service appointment during the 7AM-12PM window. Do not recommend. I requested service today to finish my programming for my new irrigation system. It was simple and to know I would not need to worry about turning the system off and on anymore, especially during heavy rains. They system is hooked up to my WI-FI... amazing! Chris Clifton was sent out today to complete my programing and system check. Chris Clifton was amazing, he was EXCELLENT! He knew his job, he was informative and very patient. He also corrected some areas to look more finish that the installers did not do. It's all about the end results. There is one thing that I wish I had had. Someone to be able to answer my requestions during the process, as I don't speak another language. This is just a recommendation to the company. Everyone was pleasant. Extremely minor nits like not putting a cover back on a box. Took me 5 seconds to do, so not a big deal. Had a major rebuild with zero nits and vastly improved performance. Over the years had many techs and several issues from incorrect installation to failing Loudoun Water but Kayla came out today, she was efficient and fast and communicated so I understood what was done and my responsibility. Been a customer for more than 10 years with this company. Our early excellent experiences with their techs ensured that we used them twice a year for spring turn-on and fall turn-off. That ended when we experienced our first surprisingly rude, arrogant, and condescending tech today. Managed to come hours early and unannounced, waking up my wife who was sleeping off her night shift at the hospital. Then laughed about it and blamed me. Sent them away. After being on hold for more than 30 mins, finally a manager was uninterested in fixing the situation, only in rescheduling, and was then bewildered by our dissatisfaction with the situation. After years of wasting water, we finally had Hydro-tech install a smart system and adjust our sprinkler heads. Chris did a great job of setting up and explaining the system, as well as making adjustments so that only things that needed to be watered were getting watered. Extremely surprised to see any 1-star reviews......I understand people even complain about McDonald's (and you know what crap you are getting into every time) online. Just goes to show you; tell a few if you are pleased, tell everyone you possibly can if something does not pan-out 100%. But, that error of communication can easily fall back on us, the consumer. Bottom line: These guys are wonderful. The consultation was highly professional, took very little time, and was highly educational. Pricing was beyond fair, water coverage was spot-on, and the yard was left without mess or scaring.... They were on time, every time! Hydro-Tech, and many other small companies, are not in business to give poor service. In fact, they are quite responsive and willing when spoken to like a fellow human. Calm down your internet muscles and ease up a bit people. Verbally communicate on a personal level with them for clarification. I would definitely not recommend Hydro-Tech Irrigation for anyone. We also inherited them from the previous owners of our new home. We opted to pay for both the turn-off and spring turn-on. This was a bad move; when we called to arrange a spring turn-on, we were told the next available appointment wasn't for another 6 weeks! When it came time to turn it on (6 weeks later), nobody called beforehand; someone apparently just showed up, put a note on our door (we had just gone out), and left. When I called to ask that the tech come back (less than an hour later, when we got home), they stated they were booked, and wanted to book us for a return appointment one month later! The receptionists Monica and Liz are very rude on the phone. Overall, it's obvious Hydro-Tech doesn't care about its customers, as they display exceptionally poor customer service. I will not be making the same mistake again; I'll go with another irrigation company in the future. read more

My irrigation system was installed by Hydro-Tech many years ago when the landscaper was installing all of the beds and turf. I have had several landscape companies perform annual maintenance and sometimes they would use Hydro-tech but if they had a tech of their own, they wouldn't. When I called Hydro-tech for service, I was told they weren't taking new customers. I told them that they installed the system but that didn't matter. No new customers. I have been a customer of this company for several years. I decided to end my relationship because of their unprofessional behavior. Hydro-Tech missed an appointment for service that I had booked the month before the scheduled date. When I called to ask that they resend someone out I spoke to Jessica. Jessica told me that could not send someone out to do the job for another month. I told her that it seemed to me that the company should find a way to squeeze me since this was their screw up. Jessica indicated that if I was not happy with the service I should take my business elsewhere. Honestly, I probably would have forgiven the missed appointment if there had been any acknowledgment of what an inconvenience this was for me. I was asked by the new service provider why I was leaving Hydro-Tech. The new service provider's representative was sympathetic and promised to send someone out within a week. While I believe that Jessica's action demonstrated poor customer service for Hydro-Tech, it was a reminder that in the choice of service providers as a customer I have an option. Tori S. I've used Hydro-Tech for several years to do my winterization. They are very difficult to get a hold of by phone, there is always a long wait no matter what time of day you call. They performed my winterization in fall 2018 and did a fine job. However, even though I paid my bill they keep sending me an invoice to my Name and Address for another person's address. I've called twice to let them know it was an issue. The first time I called they sent me to accounting who did not answer, so I left a message. The second time I called Billing told me it was an accounting issue, I began to tell her that it didn't matter she represented Hydro-Tech. She then hung up on me. Never, ever, again! read more

This is the second time I have worked with Hydro-Tech and have been pleased with the results. They installed a 15-zone system at our house in Great Falls in 1998 and maintained it for 16 years. When we moved to a new home with a smaller lot we wanted to install a much simpler system. Yoni, Phillip, Hermais and their crew were great to work with on our new irrigation system in Arlington. Even though our new system is much smaller than our first they installed it with same great care and professionalism. I also noticed that the quality of materials (pipes, drip line and valves) has improved since 1997. Also note, Hydro-Tech was the only company to offer the Rachio controller option. Rachio is an internet-based irrigation system that uses weather forecast data to preempt unnecessary watering. Rachio also lets me modify watering schedules with my phone, if necessary. Rachio saves water and money--however, many local irrigation companies don't offer it yet. Yoni Wiss was the only person I met that had heard of the Rachio system. Yoni has intimate knowledge of Rachio and was proficient in installation and set-up. Yoni has good irrigation industry knowledge and helped me to plan an efficient system. read more

Used them for years. Service is just ok. More expensive than Campbell and Biogreen but scheduling a visit over the last 2 to 3 years has become a pain. Their service department never picks up due to "unusually large volume of calls". But it is always the same. Takes call after call after call and then when you leave a message for a call back they may or may not call back. Maybe they need to hire more service folks. Anyway, not using them again. read more

I have used this company for several years and something has changed recently which is unfortunate. I was called after our annual spring turn-on and told I needed 6 sprinkler heads repaired at $14.00 each plus labor. As it turns out, my invoice was for double the price with additional work done that was never mentioned when calling for approval. I simply called to ask about this and experienced my first rude, arrogant and hostile phone call with their service manager. I would say you need to get everything in writing before doing any work, I never had to that in the past with this company but unfortunately there is some type of breakdown in the communication and it was all blamed back on me. read more

This company is unscrupulous and Mike Dawson is their Joseph Goebbels. Having him as service manager is like naming Neville Chamberlain chief negotiator. He considers himself High Priest of landscaping or Carnac the Magnificent, able to divine all things and dispense his sage landscaping advice with swell-practiced excuses.
