No Show and Lied Back in March, I called the company's phone number to schedule a spring start-up service for my existing system--an easy job. The voicemail directed me to text the number for a faster response, which I did. In the text exchange that followed, I was scheduled for the service on May 1 between 8am and 12pm. The day arrives, and by 11am I had not heard anything, so I texted back just to confirm I was on the schedule. No response. I called the phone number, there was no answer, so I left a detailed voicemail. No response. I then followed up at 1:40pm with a screenshot of the text exchange from March when the service was scheduled. I then got a prompt reply re-confirming that I was still on the schedule for the day, and that he would check on the location of the technicians. I heard nothing further. Tried called again. No response. Texted again at 3:30pm asking for updates. No response. Texted again at 4:11pm. No response. Multiple additional phone calls went straight to voicemail. The company never showed. I had to make arrangements to work from home so this service could be performed. The appointment was confirmed over a month in advance and re-confirmed the day of the appointment. Now, I have to find another vendor, make alternate work arrangements again, and will be delayed in getting my lawn irrigated this season. This is a dishonest business practice. It is bad enough to fail to show for a job. But it was made worse by re-confirming the day of the appointment that it was still scheduled, still not showing, and then just ignoring communications by text and phone. There was no excuse for this. If there was some problem on the company's end that required the appointment to be re-scheduled, I would have been reasonable. Wow. Not good. I was in need of a valve repair for my irrigation system, so I called NOVA Irrigation based on their positive reviews. I was optimistic with the initial estimate, so I agreed to have them do the repair and also upgrade several of the sprinkler heads in my system. I have to say, all my dealings with the office manager were wonderful - she was very accommodating and easy to work with. And I believe the repair was done as promised, but I won't know for sure until winterization. However, as for the upgrades, which was the brunt of the work, it was one of the worst dealings I have ever had with a service company. I get the feeling that there is very little communication within the company. There was little to no coordination between the original estimate and the work that was done. Due to a scheduling issue on their end, I was not at home when they did the work, and some of the line items on the estimate were not completed. I caught one of them with the owner via phone before the crew left, and he agreed to adjust the sprinkler head in question, albeit not the way it was described in the estimate. Another line item in the estimate was to upgrade the sprinkler heads in a zone in the front of the house, which was not done, as I discovered the next day. When it came time for billing, the invoice came in for the amount due matching the estimate, but very little resemblance otherwise. All of the charges were described as "repairs" rather than the upgrades and lumped into generic categories. I knew that the the sprinkler head replacements specified on the estimate were not done, but there was no way to discern the specific charges on the invoice. I pointed this out via email, and I asked for verification of the invoice, while paying a portion of the invoice for good faith. The owner came back with a SECOND, new invoice (different invoice number) with a HIGHER balance than the original, did not credit the payment I made on the first invoice, and actually itemized the charge for the sprinkler head replacements that were not completed. He wrote back in an email that they replaced the heads, but I took photos to show that they had not. At the end of the day, after much frustration and back and forth, I paid the original invoice just to end my relationship with this company. They are probably fine for basic winterization, but I will not be using them - and I cannot recommend a business with such basic miscommunication, billing discrepancies, and lack of attention to the customer as I have experienced with NOVA Irrigation. read more

Highly recommend Jay and the team. NOVA irrigation installed a new two zone sprinkler system for my yard and provided a quote in-line with other irrigation companies in the area. I went with Jay based off of the stellar reviews and I'm glad I did. While it was little frustrating to have our scheduled install date slip from May, all the way to July due to a back-log of other jobs and lots of heavy Spring/Summer rain, the actually install went very smoothly. There was the requisite digging of the yard to install the sprinkler lines, but I was impressed by the work and Jay had his team install a few extra sprinkler heads to ensure that the lawn would be restored in areas where they laid down the PVC piping. Despite a slight hick-up with correspondence on the install date, Jay and Elizabeth have always been extremely responsive, especially after I reported a water hammer issue, which Jay, himself came out to investigate and we quickly discovered this was caused due to a faulty prv in the house, vice anything with the install. Lastly, I was very pleased with the winterization service w/ the company. Super easy to coordinate and went off with out a hitch. read more

I think I've posted a five star review previously, but it's been a few years, and it's worth repeating. I switched over to NOVA Irrigation when my previous company, who installed my irrigation system, jacked up their prices, with no improvement in service, and were difficult to schedule with. NOVA Irrigation is reasonably-priced, responsive, accommodating and solutions-oriented, and everyone who works there is friendly and knowledgeable. I just had the winterization done and when I turned off the main water that feeds the irrigation pipe, you could hear a hissing - like there was air in the valve and I then found there was a slow drip on the faucet outside. I immediately contacted Jay Link, who got on a call with me, and looked at a video that I sent over, and told me he could come over after another job he was doing. He contacted me a day earlier than scheduled and let me know that he was available then, which was great news to me, since I had this slow leak that was creating a puddle outside, and God knows what was going on inside my walls, potentially. He went to the store and bought all of the supplies he might need. When he got here and investigated, the first thing he did was try to tighten the valve that I had already closed. With one turn of a wrench, he was able to close it, where I had not been able to, and voila - problem solved. We were both kind of amazed. And I was pretty ashamed that it had been due to my inability to fully close it and not realize that's what had happened. We started working with Jay and goes team 3+ years ago when we move to our home with an existing irrigation system. The team has been great and responsive with spring startup and fall winterization. They've been great with educating us by recognizing when we needed new sprinkler heads or a shift for better coverage. Most recently, I called Jay for help in identifying how to modify the existing irrigation system to help new landscaping. He arrived when he said he would and presented options of how to modify, or add-on, to help our new shrubs, plants, trees. His crew came and did an amazing job! Not only did they do what they said they would do, they also fixed issues with valves and wiring that had been around since the original system was installed. The guys hand dug through Virginia soil (meaning lots of rock) and you can barely tell any soil or grass was disturbed!! We moved into a home that had a pretty old and messed up sprinkler system that we thought might be leaking. We had another irrigation company come to service it based on a neighbor's recommendation and quite frankly, we paid a lot of money (150 just for guy to come out) for them to just tell us it was old. And when I wanted to just have it shut off, the guy was giving me the run around making it sound like what I was asking for was impossible. So just to be safe and make sure that there really was no existing leak we got a second opinion from NoVA Irrigation. First of all, his price was fair and Jay seemed to understand that not everyone wants the headache of an old irrigation system. When the service tech looked at our situation, basically agreed that it might not be worth it to keep the system running and just made sure all the valves were off and scheduled us to be blown out and shut down for the winter. Problem solved. Between Jay and his service team, all were professional, caring and kind. And if for some reason, we decide to get the system back up and running they would be the first people we'd call. Professional and courteous, and reasonably priced. Jay and his crew installed our irrigation system about ten years ago as a subcontractor to a general landscape contractor, when we were landscaping the property of our then new house. He designed and installed 27 zones with over 160 sprinker heads of various types. Despite getting his pipes cut over and over again, he never complained and continued until finished and continued to come back when other subcontractors continued to cut his pipes. Since then, he has opened and closed the irrigation system every year. During the open season, he has helped with additions and adjustments, laying new pipes, installing new heads, relocating heads, as needed and requested. His knowledge and experience is at the highest expert level delivered with down to earth friendliness. His pricing is always fair, the quality of his service is impeccable, his reliability is outstanding, his standard of care sets the standard, and he is just an all around good person. Over the past ten years, although we've only spoken when there is work to do, I have developed a deep sense of trust for Jay and his crew - somthing that is missing in many contractors these days.
